When you can't see down there to trim or shave and it's bloody awkward reaching around the belly even with a mirror to help?

Dd1 had to be handed a machete on the way out to hack her way through the jungle. I'd like to avoid that with dc2.

I'm thinking waxing but don't you need to trim beforehand?

I had a wax while in early stages of labour (I wasn't aware). Don't do that whatever you do, it was the most painful and unpleasant wax ever.

Lunalovepud · 19/07/2017 21:41

I channel the 70s and let it all grow out. Who needs the complex set up of mirrors required to actually see your own hoohah, let alone take a cutting implement to it? At times of necessity, (c section prep) DH does it for me. He's a lucky bloke. Grin

huskyduck · 19/07/2017 21:44

I have an electric trimmer that has a guard on it so would be hard to cut myself. Even tho I can't see it's easy to do the bush with it, have to be careful when doing labia but just go slow and it's fine even tho I can't see.i generally stand in the empty bath to do it, and judge when to stop when the hair stops falling, or judging by the amount of hair in the tub. Makes for an easy clean up too

SummerMummy88 · 20/07/2017 19:31

My husband tidied it for me with an electric shaver, felt a bit odd but beggars Can't be choosers.

A Hollywood? - No. A Brazilian? - No - Just settle for a Constable - it doesn't have to be a work of art.

Jg1 · 22/07/2017 17:38

When I was in pregnant past the stage of being able to see what I was doing I just let it be, along with my legs, and planned a full wax for 1 week before my due date. My little cherub came 5 weeks early and I was mortified during labour and forceps delivery that the world and his mother was getting a good old look at my unkempt foliage! The poor student midwife who had to sew me up had a battle on his hands too!

Jg1 · 22/07/2017 17:39

Plus it didn't help that my child's father plus my parents were at the business end. Stupid cunting ex laughed about my 'beard' and spoiled a special time.

Gunpowder · 22/07/2017 18:35

Hmmm I'm undecided on this one. Previous pregnancies I've had Brazilians throughout but this time round I might leave it, although is it uncomfortable if you have to have stitches and there is lots of hair?

I'm pausing because I am feeling like full-on waxing is starting to look dated in a noughties Paris Hilton/Juicy Couture/Trucker cap sort of way, and natural (ish, rather than full-on forest) is more up to date. Do not want my va jay jay to be the pubic hair version of Britney&Justin in matching outfits.

Gunpowder · 22/07/2017 18:35

Jg1 I'm glad he's an ex.

Jivebunny89 · 22/07/2017 18:43

@SheSaidHeSaid as a former beauty therapist…

I've never had a wax "down there" before. I have some dark circles on my inner thighs/bikini line area from shaving when I was younger. These put me off going to a salon. Please tell me that there's nothing a beautician hasn't seen before!

TaggySits · 22/07/2017 18:44

What worked for me was to lie butt naked in the roadside verge with legs akimbo as the council guy came past with his strimmer.

kel1234 · 22/07/2017 18:45

I was very lucky in that I was able to shave myself until 37 weeks. After that my husband helped me. No way would or could I leave it. Would have annoyed the hell out of me.

CoolCarrie · 22/07/2017 18:56

TattySits that's brilliant!!!

Lunalovepud · 22/07/2017 18:58

@taggysits Grin Grin Grin

Jg1 · 22/07/2017 19:09

He was an ex before the birth but I was thoughtful enough to let him be there. Stupid cow that I was!!

Privateandconfidentialplease · 22/07/2017 19:12

I let mine grow. I couldn't really care less about that sort of thing at the best of times and during labour it was the last thing on my mind. I am sure the midwives and doctors have seen it all before and it properly doesn't even register for them. They just care about getting the baby out safely for you both.
I am probably in a minority here though.
Some of these posts are so funny! Thanks for a much needed laugh. It's been one of those weeks.

mumof3boys33 · 22/07/2017 20:51

I didn't care what mine looked like during pregnancy. But as I had c sections I was asked to trim where the cut would be in advance for the first and third c section. I managed to do it myself first time. Second section was unplanned and the midwife had to shave it along the cut line (embarrassingly) then third time I had to get the OH to do it. I did say don't take it all off. But he did, completely bald. I don't know why but I don't feel right with it completely bald.

1forAll74 · 23/07/2017 05:20

DO you know, that in the 1970 era,,when my two offspring were born,,, that you usually went into a maternity home , a nurse would come along before a due birth, and give you a nice shave,, along with an enema.. it all seems so different these day,,, But with my daughter all was different,, She was born on the back seat of our car,,with my husband delivering here in a hotel car park on a freezing cold morning. at about 6.45 am. her first clothing was to be wrapped in a white cotton tablecloth from the hotel..

Susieangel · 31/12/2017 18:30

As a retired midwife I have seen many varieties from bald to hirsute. My favourite in the birthing pool was shaved into a luxuriant heart shape and dyed red. Beautiful against an black skin. Her best friend helped.

WonderfullySunny · 31/12/2017 19:18

@Susieangel that's amazing Grin not something you see during a regular labour id bet!!

Had everything waxed off recently, I would say was on a par with pre pregnancy pain levels however did bleed a little which is common in pregnancy with the extra blood etc. Can't imagine the strength of the bush after shaving throughout ...like cultivating a herb garden

Mumbofeet · 31/12/2017 21:35

Im glad everyone else is struggling! I'm also an out of sight out of mind girl but I'll be honest it's getting out of control down there. Dp laughs every time he sees it! Still got 9 weeks to go so I'm gonna have to do something or it will be a scissors and comb job. Cant bare the thought of a wax so I guess its a team effort between razor, electric trimmer, dps beard trimmer and a mirror. I'll just hack away and hope I don't draw blood.

BigBaboonBum · 31/12/2017 22:02

I usually let it grow out and then when I’m close to giving birth I panic-shave it as best I can, usually bits sprouting out all over the place though but I figure it’s good enough

GottaBeStrong · 31/12/2017 22:42

I let mine grow too since I am in a relationship where it's not an issue to be hairy down there. We have agreed he will trim it for me before the birth as it is definitely on the longer and bushier side and I would probably feel more comfortable if it was not quite so wild.

Mrstobe90 · 01/01/2018 01:51

I won’t let me DH shave me (too embarrassing) so currently having to feel my way around as my lady parts have been hidden by my huge bump for ages now. I have cut my self a tiny bit the last 2 times but always seem to do a pretty good job despite that. 3 weeks before my due date, I’ll get a wax.

shatteredandfedup · 01/01/2018 01:57

Jesus Christ this sounds like hard work.

Why bother?

Definitely on the non-essential-so-fuck-it list for me.
