So it costs a quarter of a mil to raise a kid in the UK. I went to a space cafe in Bali where a beer is 50p and a shroom shake is 2 quid. Granted you have to hang out with Millenials who let fireworks off on the beach willy nilly but food for thought. No?

Are there cocktails? 40 weeks and Bali and cocktails seems like a fantastic idea to me right now.

leighdinglady · 18/07/2017 20:45

You think no parent has ever travelled? Been there, done that, now ready to move on

You're probably a 19 year old boy though, so...

Laters Fam

TinselTwins · 18/07/2017 20:47

being cool is exhausing! I spend my 20s doing it (and travelling and doing exciting social cultural things) and I am SO HAPPY to have an excuse to not have to keep doing cool things now

"aww I don't have a babysitter this weekend" = I'm SO OVER going to places where you can't sit down!

StealthPolarBear · 18/07/2017 20:49

My kids won't eat mushrooms. Which in this case is probably good

Is this the first time 'fam' has been used on Mumsnet do you think? I still don't understand what it means...my younger sister tells me it just means family but then that doesn't make sense in the context these youngsters use it...

Just going out and getting drunk on a Saturday night is unappealing enough, I certainly don't want any shroom shakes... Also my little girl is amazing and better than any holiday ☺️

WaspsAreBastards · 18/07/2017 21:07

Yep, why not save your money for getting lit fam Grin

coldcanary · 18/07/2017 21:11

I did the travelling then had kids. They annoy me to the extent I'd happily eBay the buggers at times but I'd still not be without them!
And Bali was a bit shit. NZ was much better and not so full of knobs.

cherryontopp · 18/07/2017 21:14

I love this post Grin

As probably many of the women on here, I've had my fare share of travelling, cheap alcohol and recreational drugs but I guess we all come to a time in our lives when all the most finest of shroom shakes on the world get a tad boring.
That's when we grow up and take on responsibilities and knuckle down with careers or child bearing.

I'd love to go to Bali though Hmm

BlueIsYou · 18/07/2017 21:41

I'm very young, but struggled with fertility before this baby etc. If I left things, I wouldn't have my little family - Which is what I want more than extra years of being care free, although some aspects of childless life are very close to wanting the whole family thing.

Now I'm pregnant, I do wish I did some more holidays/spent time with soon to be DH... Life really does change with a baby.

Oh, and getting married whilst not pregnant would've been nice Envy

Ginlinessisnexttogodliness · 18/07/2017 22:28

I can see what you mean and where you are coming from, before I had children I was a bit "so what"

But now mine are here and on another the way the three of them mean the world to me. They don't to you and that's fine.

The best thing about having children is that they are so priceless to you it will never feel like a waste of anything. But until or unless you have them you don't get that so you enjoy your nautical shroom shakes.

You're also very brave to post this here instead of AIBU. Those shakes must be fucking brilliant

Winston84 · 19/07/2017 17:33

Who is Judy Blume?

OP posts:
Oysterbabe · 19/07/2017 17:43

If 84 is the year of your birth I'm surprised you haven't heard of her, right kind of era.

tinypop4 · 19/07/2017 17:46

I went to Bali with my kids. We had fun but we didn't get involved with the shroom shakes, what with being 2 and 4.
Great thread though made me laugh out loud

metalmum15 · 19/07/2017 17:49

Winston Judy Blume is only the best author of children and teenagers novels ever!

Fruitcocktail6 · 19/07/2017 17:51

What does YABOS mean?

JudyBlumeForever · 19/07/2017 19:58

Beware, reading judy blume's book Forever will make you giggle every time you're introduced to someone named Ralph

Gothbaby · 20/07/2017 09:12

Winston84 you must be either much older or really young to not know...

Vonklump · 20/07/2017 09:20

Been there, done that, excluding the shrooms, then came back and had a baby.
Not sure they are remotely comparable.

Winston84 · 20/07/2017 11:58

IMO no better author than V.C Andrews. This cray cray bird locks her DD in the attic for years but not a la Fritzl; she's jealous of her beauty. Then when she's 18...SPOILER ALERT, she crashes her mum's ball and comes down the staircase 'She's all that' style and steals the show. Her ma who's probs just had her LMP was livid.

I'm sure Julie Bloom is good but she couldn't craft such a narrative.

Should have called myself V.C Andrews.

How DARE you compare judy bloom to vc Andrews GET OFF MUMSNET

JudyBlumeForever · 20/07/2017 13:59

there is no better teenage author than Judy Blume! Tis sacrilege to suggest otherwise. Shock

Winston84 · 20/07/2017 14:37

Don't knock the Andrews mate! Have you actually read Flowers in the Attic?

OP posts:
IceLollyInThePaddlingPool · 20/07/2017 15:45

Yes and the rest of the series. They are Confused. I like FITA, mainly for comedy value, but it's not comparable to the great JB.
