I know there is Aslan but it's not traditional

And maybe she's not from the UK.

villainousbroodmare · 12/07/2017 22:42

Tatar is a great name!

SuumCuique · 12/07/2017 22:43

No need to be rude JUST Hmm

Justhadmyhaircut · 12/07/2017 22:45

Would rather risk being rude to op than fear for her poor dc being bullied forever. . .
If she can't take it imagine what she would be subjecting a dc to??!!
And breathe. . .

Thisarmingman · 12/07/2017 22:46

What about Assad, OP? That means lion as well and doesn't have the negative connotations.

MoonfaceAndSilky · 12/07/2017 22:47

I'm so sorry but it made me think of a C.S.Lewis lion with a big arse
Grin

AndromedaPerseus · 12/07/2017 22:50

Tatar is also not good in English, too close to tartar which means an angry unkind person

Unihorn · 12/07/2017 22:52

Thisarmingman

I'm not so sure Assad doesn't have negative connotations given that he is the Syrian President.

ibuiltahomeforyou · 12/07/2017 22:53

I'd say the OP means the name is Tatar rather than suggesting Tatar as a possible name!

As in, John is English.

Scrumpington · 12/07/2017 22:53

Assad doesn't have negative connotations?

Umm...

Scrumpington · 12/07/2017 22:55

If she can't take it imagine what she would be subjecting a dc to??!!
And breathe. . .

And...give yourself a big pat on the back for being an..........,arse?

villainousbroodmare · 12/07/2017 23:20

Oh dear, sorry, duh!
Assad has appalling connotations. Obv.

pinkmagic1 · 12/07/2017 23:24

What about Hamza instead if you like the meaning?

JigglyTuff · 12/07/2017 23:27

Nope - Hamza is Abu Hamza to me.

How about a different name altogether? Hassan?

DangerMouse17 · 12/07/2017 23:33

Barack? 😎😎

LookImAHooman · 12/07/2017 23:51

Is the irony of Thisarmingman's post and username deliberate?

yourerubberimglue · 13/07/2017 00:04

Arse-land ... land of butts

newbian · 13/07/2017 01:51

Huh?

Aslan is a Turkish name, the meaning is "lion." Hence where CS Lewis got it. Why would you modify it to sound like arse?!

JasAnglia94 · 13/07/2017 02:00

What about Arlan? It's unusual but not unsettling. I'm more for obscure/quirky, old names but a revamp on an ancient one isn't bad. (Sorry, I'm one of these people that reads too much into names! Grin)

BeepBeepMOVE · 13/07/2017 02:46

Arse-Land!

SuperBeagle · 13/07/2017 02:54

I think it'd be a bad idea, because the instinct would be to pronounce it arse-lan, which leaves the door wide open for teasing. Aslan is much better. [smile

Also Afuna Tatar is an ethnic group, ffs.

OlennasWimple · 13/07/2017 03:18

Seriously? People are suggesting that Assad and Hamza are no-negative-connotations alternatives to Arslan?

Maybe throw Adolf and Saddam into the mix as well... Hmm

JasAnglia94 · 13/07/2017 03:26

Maybe throw Adolf and Saddam into the mix as well... Grin Grin Grin

Thisarmingman · 13/07/2017 22:41

Oh god I genuinely didn't twig that ! I was tired! Sorry OP! Blush Blush Blush

Elkalv · 14/07/2017 00:34

I enjoy reading this thread) thanks for clarifying that Tatar is ethnic group, part of Russia. To be honest I never heard arslan name before was just reading through traditional Tatar names and liked the sound of it)) aslan it is then , thanks everyone !
