Bathing support for newborns! Comment with best product😊

So I'm about to become a first time mum and need some advice on bathing for a newborn. I've already decided that I will be using my bath at home to wash baby and not purchase a small separate baby bath. So my question is what kind of bath support is best for a newborn? Like what products have people bought and have worked?

Need opinions x

Mum!! Grin I run a warm (not hot) bath, hop in and then have my hubby pass me the baby. I can sit up and hold him around shoulder and under his arm, let him stretch his legs out in the water. A whole lot easier than wrestling him in a bath chair or net! Plus an excuse for extra cuddles...

PotteringAlong · 07/07/2017 12:48

Just hold them in your hands?

Intransige · 07/07/2017 12:54

Yes what Cuppa said. I got in with them. If you fill the bath quite deep you can also use it to get them used to water. I'm sure it's part of the reason why DD1 is obsessed by water and swimming.

Was thinking about this idea. Thanks ladies 😊 x

We used a baby bath to begin with but when we moved him to the big bath we used the angelcare bath seat. You can use it from birth and makes it so much easier. I was always really nervous about holding him to bath but this was definitely a good purchase. At 6 months old he started to try and roll in it though so have changed it now but did us brilliantly for 6 months!

I'll just drop this in here

SnugglySnerd · 07/07/2017 16:14

We just held them.

RibenaMonsoon · 07/07/2017 16:18

I used the angel care bath support. Up in till D'S was 9 months. It worked perfectly. I was worried about dropping him initially and this completely took the fear away.

Another vote for the angel care bath support

We had the summer infant bath seat. It looks like a bouncy chair (but obviously doesn't bounce!)

Support baby with one arm and wash them with the other. I've bathed hundreds of newborns and have never used anything else

SpaghettiAndMeatballs · 07/07/2017 17:44

I used DP. He is very hairy, so the slippery baby had some purchase, and was willing to spend hours in the bath when DS1 was inconsolable.

Also works in the shower, because, again, the hairiness and bigger hands means he's much more able to hold onto a slippery baby than me, who is smaller, similarly slippery, and has boobs that the child lunged at to latch onto.

Thanks ladies 😜😜

For me it was a combo of the angelcare and bathing with them. It's not always practical to have a bath with the baby so the angelcare was great if I or my husband didn't want to get in with them or if we were in our own and didn't want to climb in and out whilst holding the baby.

minerva85 · 07/07/2017 18:21

As for holding the baby and washing with the other hand - all fine if you have a standard bath but ours is extra deep and with a ridiculous thick tiled edge around it, so very uncomfortable leaning in and over and trying to safely hold the baby!

Mummyh2016 · 07/07/2017 22:59

Another vote for the Angelcare.

My baby is a week old and we wash her under the mixer tap. Like a tap shower. Quick and effective and she loves it! I am not in the uk and this is how we were shown at the hospital. Was also the way we washed DS and he also loved it. When he was a few months old we would make a very shallow big bath and just lie him in it. (Recommended by pediatrician) He could splash around. No need for any fancy baths either. You will work out a way that suits you and your baby! 🙂

TheWeeWitch · 07/07/2017 23:14

We had a schnuggle bath for DS2. It was truly worth it as the shape of the bath and the little seat part made him feel supported and secure. You can actually take your hands off them in this bath and they don't slip down or sideways. With DS1 we had a normal flat bottomed baby bath and he was always looking a bit panicked and insecure.

MaryShelley1818 · 08/07/2017 07:12

We've purchased the Angelcare on recommendations from friends. Really wanted to have both hands free to wash and play with baby.

user1487671808 · 08/07/2017 07:23

We used the bathroom sink to start with and then just ran a couple of inches in the bath and lay baby flat in that. I just found it easier not to have anything they could potentially fall out of and room to kick etc.

ThisTime81 · 08/07/2017 07:38

I had a baby shaped sponge from MC when DD was a baby, meant she could lie flat with a bit of support stopping her rolling around. I think baby baths/seats are great if you've you the space but we didn't do would if just become a laundry basket before long if not tossed out!

Just had a googled and there are loads of them around x

If you have endless money and endless storage space or tolerance for clutter you can buy all sorts of things that make life marginally better for a few weeks , it depends on your mindset

tootsieglitterballs · 08/07/2017 08:07

With DS1 we tried the baby bath and he hated it. I mean truly hated it. So we went down the route of daddy bathing with him to hold him. When I was eventually given the ok to have baths again (bad section with lots of infections so was on strict orders to shower only) I would go in with him - it was lovely.

We also only bathed 2 - 3 times a week (unless we had a major poo explosion) as he had such bad dry skin.
