What helped your nausea?

Ok Ladies all was going great until a week ago. I'm 7 weeks now.
Queue bad all day nausea. It starts from the minute I get up and only lets down just after I've eating. It gets worse if I'm in any way hungry.
I cannot just eat all day long as I'll be the size of a house plus I'm alternating between constipation and diarrhea (sorry TMI).

What has helped you?
Is it bad to take the prescribed medication if you're not actually getting sick. Sometimes I wish I would. This feeling like it could happen anytime is so draining. Plus I'm utterly exhausted.

Please say it goes away soon?

I found that mints helped or really fruity chewy sweets. Also I enjoyed foods with quite strong flavours- onion bhajis, salt and vinegar crisps and peanut butter sandwiches.
Depending how bad it gets- take the medication, I had hyperemisis and would have cried defeat many a time without the medication.

Drugs, lots and lots of drugs for me. But I had rather severe hg with all my pregnancies. It started around 5 weeks, by week 7 I was in hospital on a drip.

Things you could try are eating regularly but often, ginger, dry toast, sucking on lollipops, acupressure wristbands, finding foods you tolerate better than others, coca cola, sucking on ice poles, etc.

However if nothing works then try the medication - they are very cautious of giving medicine to pregnant women since the thialamide scandal so you won't be given anything unsafe and if it stops you getting dehydrated then take it.

Keep an eye on your weight, if you notice a drop of 5-10% let your midwife and gp know. Also buy some ketone sticks from a pharmacy to check your urine (if it's at 3 or 4 then contact your midwives and get admitted)

For me it was just eating all day. Celery, carrot, apples and peppers.

BlueUggs · 06/07/2017 22:26

I could only stomach

Nairn's ginger biscuits
Gregg's steak bakes and cheese and onion pasties!

vichill · 06/07/2017 22:29

yes i agree with constant grazing and vinegary things. cheap refined carbs worked for me. the nausea eased up at around 12 weeks but the loaf every 2 days habit remained throughout the pregnancyBlush.

EATING!!

Babymamamama · 06/07/2017 22:32

Constant grazing on pale/white ish foods. For about a month all I could face was soft white rolls with sliced cooked chicken not the cheap type. And glasses of cold milk. And the occasional rich tea biscuit. That was about it! It will pass OP hopefully sooner rather than later. But the key is to keep eating. Little and often.

TheLongRains · 06/07/2017 22:33

I nibbled ginger biscuits throughout the day for the first 18 weeks or so. And still list weight despite my impressive biscuit consumption..! I felt like not eating at all. I agree with graze where and what you can. Oh, and yes to the salt and vinegar crisps - I found those helpful too.

You'll figure out what you can stomach, and just go with that until it passes (hopefully soon!). Good luck!

Dangermouse1 · 06/07/2017 22:34

Eating all day for me too sorry. Also eating something as soon as I woke up (as in have crackers next to the bed and eat one before sitting up). Very bland processed food I found I could tolerate better e.g. processed chicken and potato waffles. It's horrible, you have my sympathy. Mine got better at about 16 weeks.

lovehoney69 · 06/07/2017 22:35

Anti sickness bands and ginger helped with me, and yes having something in my stomach relieved it a fair bit. I used to drink milk as this lines the stomach, also I always had breadsticks, crackers or oatcakes around so never really got hungry.

WeShouldOpenABar · 06/07/2017 22:39

Anything that got my saliva going helped for a bit before I threw it up, but having something to throw up was nice over the dry heaving. Sour sweets, salt and vinegar, not nachos they had a weird density that meant they crawled slowly back up my throat to be vomited instead of a quick spew, I'll never forget that texture Envy

picketfences · 06/07/2017 22:42

I'm hoping that childbirth eases mine off Envy seeks like it will be here till the end!

Fizzy water does help a bit, as does eating lots of carbs, and a walk in fresh air.

Roseandbee · 06/07/2017 22:49

Eating little and often def helps and I'm just trying vitamin b6 no, also I've stopped taking pregnacare vitamins as a lot people believe it makes nausea worse, just taking folic and vitamin D and since today B6. This article seems to have a good list of tips

MummaGiles · 06/07/2017 22:52

Sparkling water really helped me

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 06/07/2017 22:58

Giving birth. Sorry probably not what you want to hear. I'm 35 weeks with #5 & I'm still up chucking daily & feeling nauseous for a good few hours each day too, it was the same with #2 & #4 too Sad. I had hardly a day of nausea or vomiting with #1 & #3 (a few of days max).

You might find you're one of the lucky ones who it eases off for around 12-16 weeks though Smile

Busy77 · 06/07/2017 22:59

Eating constantly, tangerines, dry biscuits, fizzy water, spicy tomato juice, bananas, Pom bear crisps, I was in bed for 3 months.... it's just the worst feeling ever. I did find out I had a massive vit d deficiency which probably added to the problem. Avoid pregnacare and take milder versions of folic etc, lots and lots of water, lollipops, try everything until you find what works for you. Anti sickness bands took the edge off and I also had homeopathic pills which helped a little bit too. I hope you start feeling better soon!

RockieValentine · 06/07/2017 23:37

Thanks for all the great ideas here.
I was at my gym class this morning and was so close to walking out cos of it.
It's mad cos you can be so happy about something but feel terrible at the same time. Sad

Fizzy cola bottles and ready salted seabrooks.... the major constituents of my diet for a while... Confused kids are fine!

Singingforsanity · 07/07/2017 00:05

Seconding watermelon and be really careful not to let yourself get hungry, so yes to the constant grazing. Fresh mint tea also (not the teabags, just buy a mint plant). Hope it eases off soon!

badg3r · 07/07/2017 00:35

Yes I basically just ate all the time. Mainly haribo tangfastics Wink I lost interest in healthy eating and trying to gain weight gradually very quickly once I discovered eating was the key to not wanting to vomit all the time. By the third trimester with both my pregnancies my stomach had so little space left that in the end the weight gain evened out.

joojoobean99 · 07/07/2017 00:54

I took medication from about 8 weeks to 21 weeks. Didn't really help with the sickness but it made me so sleepy that I'd be able to sleep for a good 5-6 hours in the night without vomiting/nausea. I didn't find that any of the usual things helped me, e.g. Ginger tea, dry toast, mints, etc. I've just had to ride it out (30 weeks now and still suffering with pretty bad nausea ☹️).

My GP did used to tell me to treat myself as though I had flu. So basically go to bed, take a book with me or a load of dvds, and don't get up until I feel some sort of improvement. I did that for about 3 weeks and eventually I felt well enough to go back to work (although it didn't last!). Basically I think proper rest might be your best bet. Hope u feel better soon Flowers

Raaaaaah · 07/07/2017 01:01

Fizzy water, carbs and wristbands. I was surprised by the wristbands but they just took the edge off and made it manageable.
It's a miserable feeling especially in this heat.

IStoleThisUsername · 07/07/2017 06:29

Bitter lemon or Grapefruit juice! I drank them by the gallons.
