What would you get in for last big shop?!

Hello,

I am having my section on Thursday so we will go do a big shop this week to stock up so we dont need to leave the house for a bit if it's difficult/we dont want to.

Just wondering what people would stock up on? What did you forget that would have been helpful? Anything useful I'm bound to forget?!

TIA

Placemarking for when I need to go the big big shop!

Nice ready meals (especially some that can freeze)
Nice tea bags/good coffee
Nice biscuits
Don't go OTT on fresh stuff just yet, in case you are in hospital for a few days. (One CS + poorly baby kept me in a week; the other kept us in 5 days).
Cereal bars you can eat in the middle of the night when feeding. I like Naked bars as they are not crunchy or crumby.
Liquorice, dried apricots and dried figs for the inevitable post-anaesthetic constipation!
Peppermint tea for trapped air
Lipsalve, maternity wards are really hot!
Nice hand cream, as you will be washing your hands about 97 times a day once the baby arrive.
Shower gel on a hook so you don't have to lean over in the shower in the first few days post CS.
If you don't have one, a cycling/sports cap water bottle, do you can drink lying down.

Amazing list Bike, thanks! The shower creme thing is a great idea. I do currently have to bend down to get it, so will sort that this week.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone!

Good luck Hollyhop!!! Let us know how it goes!

BikeRunSki · 02/07/2017 19:05

On mine and DS's 7th night in hospital, when he'd lost 23% of his birth weight, I sent DH a message that said "peanut butter, red wine, Stilton".

PerpetualStudent · 02/07/2017 19:08

As an aside, the lack of painkillers sent home after a CS seems shocking - I only (only!) had an episiotomy and left with a bag of cocodemol!

BikeRunSki · 02/07/2017 19:13

After both my CS I was sent home with enough diflofenac, paracetamol and tramodol to sink a battleship. This was in S Yorks nearly 6 years ago (most recently).

SeatOfMyPants · 02/07/2017 19:13

Really useful thread!

Hollyhop17 · 02/07/2017 19:21

I am really hoping to be sent home with meds. Got my pre assessment appt on Tuesday so will ask then! I'm at Kings if anyone has any experience...

Will definitely update this thread and pass any knowledge I get and things that I inevitably forget!

Agree with bulk buying kitchen roll, moisturizing hand wash and cream. Would also add flash wipes to that list! I've never been so obsessed with cleaning as when I had a new born!

Hollyhop17 · 02/07/2017 19:53

I'm already obsesed Baffled so have an ample supply! The nesting has kicked in these past few weeks!

Buy yourself a shoe horn (long handled!)

Best c-section accessory EVER!

Sunshinegirl82 · 02/07/2017 20:22

I was sent home with meds but they didn't extend beyond paracetamol and ibuprofen which I was told to take 4 times a day. I did have an prescription for oramorph in hospital but I didn't need it in the end.

My hospital seemed to take the view that if you needed stronger painkillers then you needed to stay in a bit longer. I was in a week but due to poorly baby not the c-section. Just worth baring in mind that if you are breastfeeding you can't take certain drugs, I think codeine is off limits but happy to be corrected on that!

Good luck with the birth!

Hollyhop17 · 02/07/2017 20:32

Thanks Sunshine, I will be trying bf, but got pre made formula just in case. Will ask about meds and bf.

What did you use the shoehorn for Bacon?!?

After the first day after a c section I was only given paracetamol in hospital!! This is the first time I've realised other people had more, no wonder it hurt!

vfoster · 03/07/2017 10:56

Hello! I've just posted a thread on here about Cook offering 10% off for new parents. Sign up online and stock the freezer. I've just done a massive shop and filled the freezer for after my section next week. The food is really nice and can just be bunged in the oven.
Saying that....I went to Tesco on the way home from the hospital 2 days after my first section! I needed to buy cakes for visitors....Confused

baconbaconbaconyummy · 03/07/2017 13:58

Putting my shoes on! Couldn't bend for months after section!

baconbaconbaconyummy · 03/07/2017 13:59

Sudocrem and water wipes and bottles and bottles of water

BikeRunSki · 03/07/2017 14:44

Another thing to think about is your clothes. Under - the - bump maternity clothes are On-the-scar post CS!! Take over bump bottoms and loose tops or dresses. And slip on shoes.

Hollyhop17 · 03/07/2017 15:39

Yeah I just repacked my bag last night. Took out leggings and only have floaty dresses and high wasted skirts.

Ugh, hadnt thought about shoes. Each time I think I'm ok with my section, something else comes along to remind me how much more difficult it's going to be....

Thanks vfoster. Will check them out online.

You also need to put a notice on your front door that says "No entry without pie". Wink

LittleWingSoul · 03/07/2017 16:28

Along with the high waisted skirts and floaty dresses (which are ideal) I would suggest the BIGGEST pants for your size (I'm a size 10 normally and went for size 24!)... You'll want nice and loose over the scar, no knicker elastic even touching it!

I was also sent home with paracetamol and ibuprofen which didn't really cut the pain... I managed to get DH to go out and get me a script for tramadol after i couldnt cope anymore, which really helped... but I think I had to call the doctors first, as it possibly isn't over the counter. Can't remember, sorry! Had no trouble establishing BFing whilst riding the high off those bad boys!

ChaircatMiaow · 03/07/2017 19:17

Long BBQ tongs for picking stuff up!

Every day you will feel a bit better than you did the day before. Try to get out for a walk as much as you can even if it's just shuffling to the end of the street and back whilst proudly pushing your pram Smile

HoleySock · 03/07/2017 19:47

Is this your first baby? If so, and if you're anything like I was... baby wipes! We bought a twelve pack and thought it'd last weeks. Two days later I sent hubs to boots for more.

Also maybe moistened loo roll for you. A ton of maternity pads.. I read an article that said I'd need three or four packs. They lasted three days 😂

HoleySock · 03/07/2017 19:47

And congrats OP!
