Sorry about listing everything I've packed, but please let me know if there's anything I've missed or anything you just couldn't have managed without :)

  • For me -
* 2 packs knickers * feeding Bras * change of clothes * 2 nighties * Slippers * flip flops * toiletries * nipple pads * maternity pads * towels
  • For baby -
* blanket * several body suits * several sleep suits * hats * baby wipes * nappies * Formula (incase I can't nurse)

Is there anything else I'm missing?
Thanks all :)

Are your sleepsuits a variety of sizes as in first size and 0-3 in case hes big? Id suggest packing shirts t shirt flip flops for partner in case they come straight from work. Mat wards are roasting! a facecloth that he can soak in cool water to cool you down. Lots of snacks, straws. Hope that helps

ellesbellesxxx · 29/06/2017 08:25

I echo snacks for sure!
Clothes that you can get on easily.. that sounds silly but I had a third degree tear and even putting my knickers on was tricky! Leggings were a nightmare as I had swollen up ankles too.
A couple of bottles of water

BasinHaircut · 29/06/2017 08:29

Drinks. I took a couple of packs of those little cartons. It's so hot in there and that tepid jug of water just didn't cut it, I needed flavours.

Also snacks but not chocolate as it will melt!

BasinHaircut · 29/06/2017 08:29

And make sure you have lip balm and moisturiser.

MissBax · 29/06/2017 08:32

Ahh I hadn't even thought of snacks - good idea! I've packed sleepsuits and bodysuits in various sizes just incase, and I've told DH to pack himself a bag too :)
Will add lip balm and moisturiser to my list! Thank you

Muslins
cotton wool for nappy changes (you should avoid wipes for a few weeks)
phone charger

GreenGoblin0 · 29/06/2017 09:02

lansinoh cream for nipples - you will need it if you are bfing

MissBax · 29/06/2017 09:05

GreenGoblin0 - they're water wipes rather than standard wet wipes :) ahh yes, muslins - thank you!

My hospital said that water wipes were fine, thought I would mention it if you don't want to faff with bits of fluff! (I plan on using the water wipes!) and to pack mini formula bottles whether bf or not as hospital will not provide either way. I'm not bf so I was going to take 2 packs

MissBax · 29/06/2017 09:07

Trytowin - yes, the water wipes are great, I bought a multipack to save some pennies as they're a bit more expensive than normal ones, and much better for baby's skin by the sounds of it :)

I took my own pillow - felt like a bit of a princess, but ended up in hospital 10 days all told, so was nice to have an alternative to the hospital pancake pillows

Lules · 29/06/2017 09:10

I would take lots of pairs of knickers. I got through loads just waiting in triage as my waters were breaking and after there's a lot of blood. (Sorry for TMI). And make sure they are massive ones.

Also phone charger and hair ties if you have long hair.

10storeylovesong · 29/06/2017 09:11

I've been advised to pack a mini hand held fan as the wards are roasting!

MissBax · 29/06/2017 09:11

Lules I've packed 8 pairs, do you think I should pack more?

no fluff (or faff) really as you use water with the cotton wool -hospitals usually have little plastic pots you can use and keep. cotton wool is much cheaper than water wipes

Topsyloulou · 29/06/2017 09:15

I'd chuck some handcream in too. You'll be doing a lot of hand washing & the hospital soap isn't that great.

I took one of those little squeezy bottles of squash so I could liven up the water. You'll need to drink a lot if you're bf. I'd recommend taking a big plastic glass if you have one as those cups in hospital are small.

I took my kindle, headphones & a puzzle book. I was induced so lots of waiting around & it was good to have something to do.

I had a bag in the car with spare clothes for DS & I & extra nappies etc. We ended up being in hospital 5 days so it came in very handy. DP brought extra bits in with him from the bag in the car when he arrived everyday & took the dirty stuff home every night.

Lules · 29/06/2017 09:17

8 should be fine. You can always get more if you end up having to stay in.

MissBax · 29/06/2017 09:24

Excellent idea re the big cup and squeezy dilute Topsyloulou! :)
DM thinks I'm crazy to be packing so much as "when I did it we just turned up and got in with things" 😑

Have you got something to read or do? In the postnatal ward i spent a lot of time on my own with a sleeping baby - and phone chargers were not allowed so I had to be sparing with my phone use

MissBax · 29/06/2017 09:45

gamer - I'll pack a few books and crossword books etc. Infact on that note - any book recommendations? I particularly like books about different cultures (A Thousand Splendid Sun's / Half of a Yellow Sun etc) and easy read page turners (Girl on a Train etc)

On phone chargers, have you got a charging brick thing so you can charge your phone without needing a socket? That's useful.

MissBax · 29/06/2017 09:53

Lules - my Dsis does actually! I'll borrow hers, I think its a particularly good one.

Moisturiser, hairbrush, more than 2 pairs of massive knickers, juice, snacks such as cereal bars, your phone and phone charger.

chelseapritch · 29/06/2017 10:00

Bobbles, you don't want your hair stuck to your face when pushing lol
