Sorry about listing everything I've packed, but please let me know if there's anything I've missed or anything you just couldn't have managed without :)

  • For me -
* 2 packs knickers * feeding Bras * change of clothes * 2 nighties * Slippers * flip flops * toiletries * nipple pads * maternity pads * towels
  • For baby -
* blanket * several body suits * several sleep suits * hats * baby wipes * nappies * Formula (incase I can't nurse)

Is there anything else I'm missing?
Thanks all :)

Your list sounds like mine with ds, it was far too much stuff and became a pain in the arse!! Are you going to have a car at hospital? If yes then I would pack 3 bags:

Labour bag- to take in with you to the delivery suite (I used a back pack)
Snacks and drinks
Hair tie, hand held fan, flannel
Big t shirt/ something to labour in/something for the pool if that's your plan
Wash bag- soap, little shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste
2 pairs knickers, one pack maternity pads
Zip lock bag containing- 2 tiny nappies, vest, new born baby grow with integral scratch mits.
Something to wear after your shower
your maternity notes
Change for parking (depending on what your hospital does)

In the car- for if you need to stay over night
Car seat for your baby
8 pairs maternity knickers
2 changes of clothes
Night clothes (thin pjs with button down tops are best imho)
Camera and chargers
Bigger wash bag, maybe some moisturiser etc
Wipes, nappies and nappy sacks
3x Baby vests and baby grows, Cardigan, blanket for transporting to the car, hat. (Weather dependent!)
More food and snacks
2 packs maternity towels

At home- basically for if you need to stay longer than one night:
Make a list for your dp whilst in hospital and you know what you need!

DuggeeHugs · 29/06/2017 11:25

Take some change too - essential for snack machines and car park!

Trytowin · 29/06/2017 11:42

Not looking forward to trying to park my hospital is a nightmare! And no vending machine either. Rubbish

DuggeeHugs · 29/06/2017 13:07

Try parking is awful outside our maternity unit too and I'm pretty sure the main car park has slots for coins, notes and kidneys Sad

That said, they put a Costa in 2 years ago so at least we can still get overpriced drinks!

InDubiousBattle · 29/06/2017 13:12

If they don't have a vending machine in the maternity/delivery wards they almost always have one in a&e if you get desperate! When I had dd (second baby )dp had to run round to a&e for me to get a coffee from the Costa machine there because they didn't have de caff tea or coffee on the delivery ward! So perhaps include decaff tea bags to your list!

Trytowin · 29/06/2017 13:25

Sod the decaffeinated! I likes my caffeine! :-) So far my suitcase will be gluten free food, nappies, water wipes and pepsi max LOL. Believe it or not but the 200 recommendation limit for caffeine is over 4 cans of pepsi max(don't do tea or coffee), not that I could drink 4 in a day mind!

InDubiousBattle · 29/06/2017 13:33

I used to love my caffeine too but since being pregnant with ds it makes me really sick! 4 years and two under 2 with very limited caffeine. After having dd they gave me two cups of tea that I assumed was decaff so drank and I started to feel really ill- the mw were worried that I was having some weird delayed reaction to the half dose of diamorphine I'd had hours before! That's when dp went to the Costa machine for me!

queenofthedump · 29/06/2017 13:46

Face wipes?
Camera?
Drinking straws (invaluable in my experience)

MissBax · 29/06/2017 13:55

Hadn't even thought about change - good idea. We live less than a mile from our hospital so think we'll taxi it initially to save the hassle of finding a parking space and paying a fortune!
I can't drink caffeine either - it makes me really shaky and anxious, that was before I was even pregnant though but will stock up on peppermint and fennel tea bags.
Hadnt even considered straws either but makes a lot of sense if I'm crouched or bent over! Eeeeek, it's all becoming so real now!

I packed 3 bags. 1 for me, 1 for baby and 1 for my partner (I pestered him to do it but he never did lol).

Mine -
• nightie
•2 pyjama sets
•2 packs of big knickers (4 per pack)
•2 nursing bras
•coming home outfit (something comfy)
•dressing gown
•slippers
•socks
•maternity towels
•bath towel
•usual toiletries - toothbrush, toothpaste hairbrush, hairbands, shower gel, face wipes, deodorant, lip balm (don't bother with make up lol)
•a book/puzzle book/magazine (but I was induced)
•a phone charger

Baby -
•1 full pack of nappies
•pack of wipes (hospital might encourage water and cotton wool which they provide)
•nappy bags
•3-5 sleepsuits
•3-5 vests
•cardigan
•blanket
•Muslin cloths + couple of bibs
•2 hats
•coming home outfit (even just a sleepsuit + jacket)
•formula cartons not powder

In my partners bag was just a few toiletries and a couple of changes of clothes incase he wanted to feel comfortable.
Just try to take the essentials. You don't want to be rummaging around in a big bag of crap looking for something. My son was born at 7.16am but didn't go home until 7pm the following day so my partner was able to go home and bring bits back and parents brought bits we needed too.
Can't think of anything else. When are you due? X

MissBax · 29/06/2017 14:09

Thanks BringMe :)
Yes I've told DH to pack himself a bag but most likely he'll end up doing it when I go into labour (if I don't cave in sooner)!
Still not due for another 8 weeks so I've given myself plenty of time, but just wanted to get it done so I know I've got everything in there!

Some ideas, you might not want them all but some might be helpful:

Small handheld battery operated fan
Massage ball for DH to use on your back (about the size on a tennis ball)
Toothbrush for DH
Chewing gum (you might vomit)
Thin dressing gown
Bibs for baby
Scratch mittens and socks if not built into sleep suits
Phone charger
Music/iPod/mini speakers
Foam gardeners kneeling mat if using birth pool (imagine the knee pain of kneeling in a bath for hours!)
Puppy pad/incontinence bed pad for putting on car seat for trip to hospital
Battery operated fairy lights if you are sensitive to bright lights (turn lights off in labour room and just use the fairy lights)
TENS machine
Bum cream and Vaseline for baby
Formula should be in the pre-sterilised bottles with pre-sterilised teats (usually sold in a 6 pack)
Boppy pillow
Plastic bag for dirty laundry
Tena/depends incontinence pants
Set of nipple shields
Warm socks for when your feet get cold during transition
Birth plan
Maternity notes
Bikini top if using pool

2nd bag with extra maternity pads and clothes for you, and nappies and clothes for baby in case you are kept in.extra towel in here could be good too. Leave this in house somewhere obvious so DH can bring you it easily, or leave it in car boot.

Snacks - cereal bars, sweets, drinks, biscuits, dried fruit.
Sports cap water bottle
Straw

Also once you have your bag(s) ready, unpack it all and get DH to pack it so that he knows what is there and where everything is as he will be the one getting things out, not you.

BringMeTea123 · 29/06/2017 14:21

Sounds like you're very organised Smile. I didn't do ours until 38 weeks lol. And then when I went overdue I unpacked the bags (I was sick of looking at them and hoped it would make me go in to labour) but it didn't and re packed them the night before we went in for induction. Pack snacks as well closer to the time if you can. Pink lucozade was my savour! You get so thirsty in labour. Think someone else had mentioned straws which is a good shout! Although the hospital had some x

picketfences · 29/06/2017 14:21

Just read you're getting a taxi. Definitely make a plan for sanitary wear for the taxi trip or you could be charged for cleaning the cab.

I.e. Wear a maternity towel, and on the seat put down a big black bin bag with a puppy/bed wetting pad on top. When the journey is over DH can put puppy pad inside black bag and dispose of in bin on the way in.

picketfences · 29/06/2017 14:22

Consider a sick bag/plastic bag with no holes to hold for taxi trip too just in case.

MissBax · 29/06/2017 14:31

Sounds like you're very organised - that's a nice way of putting it, I think I'm more just a control freak Wink
Thanks for the taxi advice picket - I'm so.ignorant I didn't even think about the fact that I'll likely leak through! Oh the joys...

lol yes I imagine the walk from the entrance to the labour suite is not very dignified as you drip fluid on the floor while waddling along the corridor, complete with an attractive wet patch on you clothes 😂😂😂

Childbirth is so not dignified!!!!

MissBax · 29/06/2017 14:37

picketfences ha! Bring it on 💪
