Hello all ,

My wife is having period like pains and feeing the muscles tightening in her belly area and the stomach feels very hard and then relaxes after 30 seconds . this has been happeneimg for around 1hour - 1hour 15 mins . The pain is more lower down in the pubic area but then goes away.

We know not to call until the pain does become intense .

Could this be early labour ?

Er, yes.

LookImAHooman · 28/06/2017 21:42

You need to be timing these.

ComputerUserNotTrained · 28/06/2017 21:44

I'm no doctor, but I'd say she's going to be having a baby pretty soon Grin

Enjoy!

NorthernLurker · 28/06/2017 21:44

Sounds like labour starting to me. You need to eat something and take a nap. You could well be up all night.

cestlavielife · 28/06/2017 21:45

Call them now
Get bag ready

ComputerUserNotTrained · 28/06/2017 21:47

Gawd yes, timing! I told you I was no doctor. And yy to phoning.

WithCheesePlease · 28/06/2017 21:48

Yes call them now!

ComputerUserNotTrained · 28/06/2017 21:48

Oh and the pain might not get that intense. I mean it will hurt like anything, but don't delay going in just because the pain seems bearable.

Jambo123 · 28/06/2017 22:18

The pain is bearable and yes we we are timing them they are happening every 6 minutes... they are not getting more intense or painful at all . The pain is not intense at all and she is quite relaxed taking as normal.

This is why we don't think we should go to the hospital , and we have been told by midwife previously stay at home for as long as possible .. of course if the pain does get more then we may need to go , thanks !

I had this and after about 3-4 hours they stopped. Started again 2 days later for real. Good luck.

NorthernLurker · 28/06/2017 22:57

If the pains aren't lengthening or strengthening then it could be days not hours.

Is the baby moving ok? Even in labour she should still be able to feel frequent movement. If anything changes with that or she isn't sure about the movements then go straight in, don't mess around ringing up, just go in.

Jambo123 · 29/06/2017 00:35

The contractions are not strengthening there's not lots of baby movement but baby moving Ocassionaly not too often .. let's just wait and see time for bed now . We will keep you posted :))

Good luck with everything, you'll probably have a baby quite soon 😊

Starfairylights · 29/06/2017 00:50

Keep an eye on movements as pp, if their not frequent ,please go straight in.

Jambo123 · 29/06/2017 04:42

We rang the hospital yesterday , who advised only to come in if the contractions are 3-4 contractions in 10 minutes laying 45 seconds or more . Or if there is irregular bleeding .

They did not mention about the infrequent contractions part .

I'm sure ia we will soon Wink

Hi guys , it's been a full day now since I last posted on Wednesday evening . She has been getting contraction type pains all of Thursday now and even tonight (Friday early morning) pain is getting a little more intense now .

Nurses asked us to call only if the contractions happen 3-4 times in the space of ten mins and last 45 seconds

Since Wednesday evening the contractions have been on average 6-7 minutes apart and about 35-40 seconds long ..

We will just wait and see how it goes , anybody think this could take long or not now at all

This sounds exactly like my labour! I started with mild contractions on a Sunday - v far apart, manageable etc. Monday; same thing. They got closer together on Tuesday, we thought ok this is it so called in - they suggested paracetamol which slowed the contractions right down for some reason so I went to bed Tuesday night feeling fed up that I had been contracting for bloody days and nothing! Wednesday I spent lots of time bouncing on my ball until they got unbearable round about 6pm. Went in at 9pm and baby was born at 3.21am. I felt like I had tons of build up with painful but manageable contractions but in hindsight was grateful as when it sped up massively and was hideous, that bit was over in a few hours!

Good luck xxx

silkybear · 30/06/2017 06:28

I had mild contractions starting on a monday and it didnt ramp up properly until the saturday, baby born monday morning...so it might be a while. Good luck x

Jambo123 · 30/06/2017 10:03

Thankyou silkybear and astorm it does sound very similar , she had paracetamolast night conttactions even now have been regularly and she got a little sleep here and their but not like normal .. she has been using the ball last few days quite a lot and we went on walks last 3 days in a row which we don't normally go as frequently

This morning just now the pain seems a bit more she is saying it's bearable which it seems like but struggling with pain

astormgivenflesh · 30/06/2017 11:47

Be as lovely as possible - don't stress, let her hug/squeeze you with each one, take charge of ringing triage/birth centre, feed her, use an app to time contractions and keep record, make sure your bags are ready to go and car is nearby with car seat ready!, time for last minute checks like where are keys, wallet, phone charger, snacks for hospital, make sure you've got her maternity notes etc

So exciting!!! xxxxx

Jambo123 · 30/06/2017 15:35

The contractions are now every 4 minutes and more intense than last night . We called the hospital who said it's upto us what we want to do so we decided to stay at home as long as we can .. should there be lot of movement of the baby at this stage as we are not feeling much ...Shock

Jambo123 · 30/06/2017 16:13

Is it advisable to have castor oil and York egg during these contractions

OP posts:
Easilyflattered · 30/06/2017 16:22

No to castor oil. I personally would stay at home as long as she can bear it if midwives have okayed it

Holdbacktheriver · 30/06/2017 17:16

No to castor oil. Keep as active as possible lots of leaning forward during contractions give baby lots of room to move down.

It can be normal for baby to slow down during labour and not fidget as much however you've mentioned this a couple of times so it seems to be reduced enough to worry you. So for this reason I'd recommend giving the hospital a call and going in for a check

Jambo123 · 30/06/2017 17:32

Thanks holdbackriver, she is using the ball now contractions every 3-4 minutes . Hiccups felt couple of hours ago .. we might just give it a while and then call and see what they say
