Hi!!
This is my first EVER post on here so please bare with me! These forums have saved my life with our first son, you know those grim evenings.... It's 3am and you feel like you've been constantly breastfeeding for your entire life so you Google how to cope or how to progress things?! These places gave me hope back then!!
But here we are now expecting our second child (currently 20w+3), I was pretty certain what sex this next baby would be and was shocked at the answer I got from our sonogropher last week!! The fact that I never got to see our babies bits doesn't help but he so quickly looked then changed the view!!! So I'm left in doubt! I honestly don't mind either way, I'm so relieved baby seems healthy, but to expect one thing and then be told another... It's hard to get your head around.
So for a bit of fun (I'm not sure if I want to pay for another scan to find out) .. What would you guess from this?! This is was at 12 weeks as I have no shots of the bum area at 19 weeks 😢
Thanks!!

My dh had a hunch from about 8 weeks with both of my pregnancies and got it right both times

Wow - that's amazing. The odds against that are just staggering, right? I mean, they must be as high as...... 1 in 4 Grin

owltrousers · 24/06/2017 10:03

@Cwhits87 Congrats on your pregnancy!

Like you I also have a 'hunch' don't ask me what its based on but I think if I'm wrong I'll also be a bit like OH! not that it matters to me either way.

I'm also fairly new to MN and constantly surprised by the mean spirited, downright bitchy responses to seemingly innocent questions and threads. Some people definitely need to chill out and try being nice!

I think girl btw! Based on my limited experience with nub theory haha.

n0rtherrn · 24/06/2017 10:08

What a bizarre thread.

Nobody was trying to tear you down or whatever.

It's one thing to say, we don't know the sex yet, any guesses/ideas?

But to say you just can't agree with a trained sonographer so turn to a forum to see what they think based on a scan photo without genitalia shots is just a bit odd that's all!

strawberrypenguin · 24/06/2017 10:12

I'd absolutely trust the sonographer over your 'hunch' especially as they have said your baby is a boy - that's pretty obvious on a scan at 20 weeks!

Soubriquet · 24/06/2017 10:13

Yep Shiny Grin

But he also did the same thing with two of my friends and my mum. (Surprise last pregnancy)

Only one he got wrong was my sister. So he's pretty clever, though I do acknowledge it's a 50/50 chance

OkyDoke · 24/06/2017 10:32

I understand a little bit. I was sure we were expecting a girl and at 20 weeks we were told it was a boy. Im delighted but still wouldnt be too suprised if he popped out a she. 9 weeks to go!

shinynewusername · 24/06/2017 12:56

Ah you sure he isn't doing what canny GPs do, Soubriquet? You tell the mother it will be a boy but write girl in the notes. That way, if she tells you got it wrong, you can point to the computer and say, "No I didn't - look." Wink

(Just kidding - I don't really gaslight my patients)

Soubriquet · 24/06/2017 13:45

Grin clever but no

DebsOctBaby · 24/06/2017 13:48

I would pay for a private gender scan to get a more specific scan as the 20 week scan they often don't have the time to spend talking you through a gender.

I was convinced I was having a boy and even sent my 12 week scan off to the I resent people who do the nub and skull theory. They said boy as well.

It came as a complete shock that both private scan and NHS said it was a girl so they specifically showed us as I just couldn't believe it!

I would definitely get a cheap scan (I paid £39) and they spend a good 15 minutes and even though not 100%, as you are paying for it they really won't say unless they are sure and can back it up x

Cwhits87 · 24/06/2017 15:13

Thanks OnNaturesCourse, owltrousers & DebsOctBaby!!
I just don't think some people grasp that my scan was done so quickly and not shown the goods that its left me in doubt! Mistakes do happen and hope he didn't rush it like i felt it was! I don't know... I'm clearly no expert 😂

we're all human so there's always room for human error no matter what your job.

I'm a seeing is believing kinda person so I'm going to arrange a private scan I think, it's my last pregnancy as I said, so why not make the most of it!!!

I'm pregnant with twin boys and trust me there is no mistaking that they are boys, their bits have been very clear on all the scans since about 18 weeks.

I had a 'hunch' I was having girls because of my pregnancy related 'symptoms'. Unfortunately I was disappointed with the genders, i really wanted a little girl. I don't think we will have any more children so I think it was more the disappointment of knowing I wouldn't raise a little girl which had upset me. I'm over the moon with my little boys now, but I just wanted to mention that it's normal to want a baby of a certain sex especially if you already have one child.

I would definitely trust the sonographer, I'm scanned every 2 weeks and ever different sonographer has confirmed they are boys so not much room for error there. Also I was told by one of the sonographers that it is impossible to tell the Sex from the scan photos you have uploaded.

Ginlinessisnexttogodliness · 24/06/2017 20:30

@EllaNB did you really show these to a sonograoher?!
Good idea if you did.

I was looking at these and I don't think you can say either way with any confidence.
Weirdly enough they look like my third baby's dating scan pics. We aren't finding out - well hopefully - and I have no clue. Looking at the pics I can see elements of my son's and my daughter's dating scans.

Perhaps I should avoid this thread in that case

@Cwhits87 congratulations either way!

EllaNB · 26/06/2017 10:46

No not these exact photos, but the same style when we didn't know the sex of our babies. You need the potty shot to be able to confirm :) even the consultant scanned us once and couldn't tell because their bits were covered.

Branleuse · 26/06/2017 10:53

I honestly dont think you can tell from those pictures, so if its important for you to know in advnce, youre best off getting a private scan
