Hardly any baby movement at 40 +3?

Hello, just a bit of advice for a worries (maybe just paranoid) first time future mum. My due date is Sunday (4 days from now) and I'm a little worried about the baby moving.

I haven't felt him move much (though I know I felt him kick yesterday) and I can't remember him kicking or moving much over the past few days. I have felt him move but not kick today but only once or twice. He is normally kicking or moving constantly, should I be worried?

I hasn't seen my midwife since about 35 weeks as they cancelled my last one due to over booking and the hospital don't have any appointments either, but I'm going to call in a bit just to ask but wanted some advice first.

Is less movement so close to the end normal? Ive googled it and Some people have said yes some have said no..

Any advice from people who experienced the same so close?

Please call the maternity ward or midwives. The gp doesn't get involved in these things. Good luck!

MissSueFlay · 21/06/2017 11:44

Go to hospital and tell them the baby isn't moving much. They will not mind monitoring you for a while to make sure all is well. And it's the best place to be if it isn't. Please don't wait for the GP to call back, just go straight to the hospital. This is advice from the RCOG
Over 28 weeks pregnant: You must contact your midwife or local maternity unit immediately. You must not wait until the next day to seek help.

Mama1980 · 21/06/2017 11:45

Please go straight to you midwife unit or even the hospital. No need to panic but it's always better to be safe.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 21/06/2017 11:46

No,no,no! What fucking stupid and potentially dangerous advice from the receptionist! Get yourself checked now.

Nelly5678 · 21/06/2017 11:48

The intensity of movement will reduce so kicks won't happen as much however movement should be the same such as rolling around and wriggling. Drink some ice water, what my midwife did for me and woke him right up. Also you may be focusing on it more just as he goes to sleep so miss his big amounts of activity (what happened with me). Drink some water and change position and call the hospital and they'll probably get u in for monitoring if movement has gone down.

stolemyusername · 21/06/2017 11:50

Please completely disregard what the (moronic) receptionist said and call your maternity unit, insist that you are seen and your baby monitored.

FacelikeaBagofHammers · 21/06/2017 11:51

GO INTO THE HOSPITAL NOW

Don't listen to that receptionist, and to be honest, you should log a complaint against her. That's outright dangerous.

wowl · 21/06/2017 11:52

Please please listen to posters OP and get yourself to the maternity assessment unit right now! Much better to be safe than sorry and it's not normal! Hoping you're on your way now!

SmileInAWhile · 21/06/2017 11:55

The receptionist has given out of date information. New guidelines say any reduced movement or change in pattern needs to be check. Call your local MAU and get seen asap.

Mummyme87 · 21/06/2017 11:55

Head to your maternity assessment unit straight away. A change in movement needs assessed. You don't need your GP now, you need to have monitoring in hospital. Hopefully you're on your way by now

The point is the receptionist shouldn't be giving out any advice as she's not a medical bod!

n0rtherrn · 21/06/2017 12:03

Anybody who says less movements towards the end is an idiot.

It is incorrect and dangerous advice.

If nobody is helping you, don't wait around for the GP, they can't help anyway, you need to go to the hospital maternity unit or where ever you plan to give birth and ask to be monitored.

GinIsIn · 21/06/2017 12:03

A receptionist has zero medical training. Forget the GP, phone maternity triage and go in asap.

notomatoes · 21/06/2017 12:08
Shock

I can't believe the reception is giving out medical advice either!

I hope you aren't replying as you are at your labour ward being monitored. After your baby is safely here, please please please put in an official complaint about the receptionist. It is not an exaggeration to say she could kill someone giving false advice.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 21/06/2017 12:11

Tbh the fact you don't know this already is really worrying OP, you should've had this drummed into you.

mysecret321 · 21/06/2017 12:25

Can't believe the receptionist's advice! So stupid and potentially dangerous!

SockQueen · 21/06/2017 12:26

Sounds like pretty shabby antenatal care tbh, you should have been seen at least twice if not more between 35-40 weeks. And you should have had it drummed into you not to mess about with reduced movements. My midwife grilled me on it at every appointment!

The receptionist has no medical qualifications and once you've gone to hospital to be checked, you should put in a complaint about her.

Howaboutanotherusername · 21/06/2017 12:28

It is not normal please please call your midwife or labour ward right now

CherriesInTheSnow · 21/06/2017 12:42

Are you okay OP, did you get seen?

Just to echo everyone else that NO ONE should be telling you not to be seen for reduced movement. It is incredibly imporant to get baby's heart rate checked and make sure everything is okay.

I went at 39 weeks with DD and they made me feel very reassured and we're happy I came in - there was nothing wrong but it is not worth the risk. They told me on the phone to come down right now for monitoring, and withing 40 minutes of the phonecall I was being monitored. They also told me that if I feel reduced movement again, even if it's later the same day, to pop back down.

No one will make you feel silly, nothing is more important than making sure baby is okay Flowers

Lemondrop99 · 21/06/2017 12:48

GO!

I've been in twice for reduced movement and the midwives have been fantastic. Everything was fine but they strongly said that I should always contact them if worried, even if I go in 20 times! Always better to get checked. Go right now, even if only to put your mind at rest

And, I'd be thinking about putting a complaint in about that receptionist!

stealtheatingtunnocks · 21/06/2017 12:55

Not seen for 5 weeks at the end of a pregnancy?

That's shocking.

Hope things are ok for you just now.

amymel2016 · 21/06/2017 12:56

Exactly what everyone else has said, call your hospital now, they'll ask you in to be monitored. Reduced movements towards the end of pregnancy is just as important as the middle, it's an old wives tale that they reduce. Please please please give triage a call.

Then definitely make a complaint about the receptionist!!

Dede124 · 21/06/2017 13:46

Hope everything is ok @FutureMummmmmmyx

Lunalovepud · 21/06/2017 13:48

OP I hope that you are now being monitored in the maternity unit and everything is well with your baby.

As PPs have said, reduced movement should always be checked out - I was in a couple of weeks ago for it and by the time I was scanned, the baby was moving about so much that they couldn't take measurements! Still I was reassured that they would rather see you than not.

Please make a complaint about the receptionist - she is in no way qualified to make those kind of judgements or to issue advice. Her advice could be very dangerous to an unborn baby.
