So I have just been sitting on the sofa and my 3 year old Neice run over and put her hand on my stomach to the right of my belly button and pushed hard with all her weight, it was a shock and did hurt happened about 40 mins ago and just had a few sharp pains where it happened? Should I ring a midwife and should I ring EPU or community midwife, unsure as seen midwife couple of times and been different each time x

Baby is well cushioned in amniotic fluid and will be completely fine, but speak to your midwife if it will put your mind at rest. I'd go with community midwife.

If pregnancies were so fragile, we'd never have survived as a species, and small children have been climbing all over bumps for as long as they've existed. Don't worry.

Unless you start to experience some pain and/or bleeding, then I wouldn't worry. Assuming you have began feeling babies movements, are you still feeling them now?

Kittykatclaws · 16/06/2017 19:46

If you are worried get checked out no one on the internet can advise in this sort of situation only you know how you feel.

Kicker764 · 16/06/2017 19:59

I have an anterior placenta and not felt movements yet, don't feel any different just a pain now lower right side nothing I haven't felt before though going to ring the midwife now

In my last pregnancy at about 24 weeks my toddler jumped and landed feet first with his full weight on my bump. I called the antenatal ward and they asked me to come in for monitoring for 4 hours. All was fine although I had some spotting a few days later and had to go back in again for more of the same. Once again all was well.

Please call them for your peace of mind. They would rather you asked than not! I think community midwife. Early pregnancy unit might not deal with you at your stage of pregnancy. Midwife will at least be able to direct you to correct ward if she wants you to go for monitoring. Make sure you have something to read/well-charged phone or iPad in case you are there for ages!

OnNaturesCourse · 16/06/2017 20:23

Your niece maybe just put pressure on your already stretched muscles.

What kind of pain do you have

Kicker764 · 16/06/2017 20:52

Just feels like stretching pains I have had like slight sharp pains mostly lower abdomen, tried to call midwife couldn't get through to a few numbers so called 111 they assessed and a doctor is going to call me on the next hour.

Glad you made a call. I suspect any medic will ask you to go in for some monitoring as they have a fairly low threshold for that and would prefer not to miss problems. Please don't get too worked up over it though: your baby is very well cushioned in there and it is so unlikely that a blow to the belly from a small child could hurt it!

Kicker764 · 16/06/2017 22:29

Still had no call back from doctor really worried now have a bad stitch pain just above where got pressed down on, :(

Could you phone maternity triage/labour ward?

Kicker764 · 16/06/2017 22:35

Would the number be on my notes? Just that I'm staying out and forgot to bring folder with me, I'm in Leeds will it be on lgi website?

Phone the hospital switchboard and ask to be put through to labour ward, they will refer you to the right place.

Kicker764 · 16/06/2017 22:36

Would the labour ward be right for me at 21 weeks?

It depends on the unit, but if they arnt the right place they will know where is.

DarthMaiden · 16/06/2017 22:39

It's extremely (very much so) that this event could have cause any complications in pregnancy.

There was a a very sad thread a while ago where there was a "family myth" that a toddler jumping on his pregnant mothers stomach had caused the death of a baby.

Several paediatricians came on to the thread to explain how this was unbelievably unlikely given how the womb and amniotic sac protect a baby even in catastrophic events like a car accident for example and none of them had seen problems from a small child jumping on a pregnant mother, never mind pressing hard.

Get checked out to ease your mind, but honestly it's extremely unlikely this will have caused any issues.

It's almost definitely fine. I slipped on ice and landed on my front at 21 weeks and all was fine but best to put your mind at rest. X

DarthMaiden · 16/06/2017 22:43

Just to add, I slipped on ice - flat down on my belly at 36 weeks.

Hurt like hell and was worried beyond belief.

All was well...he's sat next to me as I type at 15 Grin.

WhatWouldGenghisDo · 16/06/2017 22:45

My 1 year-old spent my whole 2nd pregnancy running at me and bouncing off my bump, climbing up it, lying on it, elbowing me in it. It sometimes hurt but never caused a problem: no 2 is even bouncier!

thatorchidmoment · 16/06/2017 22:45

Labour ward not the right place for assessment, but there will be an antenatal ward. Switchboard should be able to direct you and if you get through to the wrong unit they will put you through to the right place.

You are doing the right thing chasing things up. PPs are right about the vanishingly small chances of any harm though.

Kicker764 · 16/06/2017 22:50

Just spoke to maternity assessment at lgi, they didn't sound too worried said I didn't need to come in think I'm abit more eased now they said to take paracetamol and have a hot bath and if pain gets worse to call back, just can't help but worry the pain is worse than earlier now and keep crying every time I think about it :(

Lj8893 · 16/06/2017 22:51

Is there a weekend drop in midwife clinic you could go to tomorrow?

Lj8893 · 16/06/2017 22:56

I don't know Leeds, so didn't know they had a maternity assessment line, but not all hospitals have an antenatal ward and the labour ward may well be where a 21 weeker may be assessed if needed.

WhatWouldGenghisDo · 16/06/2017 22:57

It does sound like it could be muscular. baby is cushioned but your muscles are stretched out and vulnerable. Do the paracetamol / bath thing and just keep an eye on it: the main thing is you have someone to call if anything changes
