Telling OH you're pregnant - how did you do it?

I was going through some threads on here and something reminded me of the time I found out I was pregnant and how I called my husband at work to tell him. He was at a meeting so whispered 'that's nice' and said he'd call me back. 🙄

That got me wondering. How did you all do it? Did any of you go all out and prepare an elaborate surprise announcement?

I bought him a 'good luck' card and wrote inside 'guess who's pregnant?'
To which he looked at me with a combination of fear and excitement and say 'you?' And gave me the worlds biggest cuddle.
I'm getting induced today.

I hadn't planned of doing anything special, however I took the test when I was home alone all day so I had a lot of time to think about how I'd tell DH when he got home from work. So on a whim, I took the attached photo (DH is a big gamer). I then changed the wallpaper on his PC.

I had planned to leave it for him to discover, but he was really late home from work that night and I was due to go out with friends. So when he got in, I casually mentioned that his PC had been making funny noises, knowing he'd dash straight upstairs to check it.

First he said "what the hells that? Who's been messing with my wallpaper?" Then he realised it meant something but didn't know what. Two mins later he fell in. I've never seen such a silly grin on his face Grin

Unfortunately he'd cycled home so was drilling in sweat. I was running late to meet friends. So we had about 10 mins to revel in the news then I had to go out and spend the evening hiding why I wasn't drinking when I wanted to be home with DH talking about this.

As an aside, the mini pumpkin has some significance as DH had bought three pumpkins for Halloween (2 big, 1 small) when we were TTC and said it was what we were going to be. It was so cute that I didn't have the heart to throw the mini pumpkin out (still don't! It's in the freezer until baby gets here safely as I've become weirdly superstitious about that bloody pumpkin!)

I emailed him at work asking if he'd want to know the result straight away if I took a test or wait until he got home, he said he'd want to know straight away, so i just replied with "it's positive"

CoodleMoodle · 16/06/2017 13:09

I had a funny feeling one evening, went to the loo and did the test. Positive. Took it back to DH and just showed it to him, expecting a smile or some romantic words...

All he said was: "Do another one." Grin (He promises he was happy but at the time...!)

DD1 after 6 years of nothing happening, POAS and waved it in his face - he told me not to get my hopes up as we'd been through so much (mc, failed IVF) I don't think he relaxed until she was out.
DS rotten metallic taste in my mouth, sudden "oh Fuck" moment, POAS, cleaned it and stuck it in a father's day card.
DD2 lots of "I have something to tell you" "Just tell me!" "I can't" "Oh FFS what is it" before telling him the news on Christmas Eve. She was his best present ever.

@Lemondrop99 that's a great story! How long until your pumpkin is here?

Did the test, told him after pacing the lounge for ages.
He didn't believe me. I had to tell him about 5 times before he believed me.
Grin. Once it had sunk it he said he wouldn't be able to cuddle me in bed when I was massive. He's a charmer Hmm

With our son, I handed him the Clearblue Digital in Pret a Manger at lunchtime when I was meeting up with him. He saw the "Pregnant 3+" (it turned out I was actually 7 weeks!) and screamed!

This time we were in a hotel room in Limerick, I did the test, saw a faint line, crawled back into the bed beside him and showed him. He gave me a big hug and reminded me that there would be no booze that night!

silkpyjamasallday · 16/06/2017 14:59

DP went out to get tests as I'd been puking multiple times a day for weeks, and he was insisting I might be pregnant, I was convinced it was a stomach bug. I was in permanent residence in the loo, so he came in handed them over waited with me while I weed on the first stick, two lines appeared immediately in front of our eyes. Job done.

Thank you Smile

PTphonehome · 16/06/2017 23:27

I sent him a message on what's app as he was at work 100s f miles away for 3 weeks.

AmyB1986 · 17/06/2017 00:36

I did a test expecting it to be a bfn. He'd gone to work, sent a text saying 'babe, I'm pregnant!' He replied 3 hours later (lorry driver) saying 'oh shit 😜' when he finished work, he came home with flowers, a white baby hat and a card that he'd wrote 'sorry your boobs hurt' inside! Made me laugh/cry.
I've seen loads of elaborate announcements but I was too excited to think of anything to tell him, just wanted to tell him there and then! It was nice he surprised me with the gifts instead though

HopefullyDothButterNoParsnips · 17/06/2017 06:44

I had a cute little baby grow with "hello daddy" on it that I gave DH with our digital test. We miscarried a few weeks later. Not sure what I'll do this time around but likely to be a bit less "Pinterest"

Wreckingball25 · 17/06/2017 06:59

Ahh these have made me smile!
I took a test last march to rule out pregnancy (we'd not been trying long and didn't expect it to be quick but I felt queasy) and it was positive. Waited for him to get home that evening, asked how his day was, replied it was ok, told him that was about to change GrinShock

hotwater · 17/06/2017 08:08

I did the test, kept my finger over the results window and took it through to him. We turned it over and looked together. Not a big reveal but one of my very happiest memories Smile

Mandraki · 21/06/2017 07:32

Husband told me to take a test, I was sure I wasn't pregnant but he says he just knew. We both went into the bathroom, I wee'd in a cup, while he sat on the floor, dipped the stick and then he took it off me so I couldn't stare at it until 3 minutes. Then we turned it over together and both saw at the same time, I nearly fell off the toilet with shock, he was very calm!

Flamingoprincess1212 · 21/06/2017 07:49

I was off to M&S first thing for croissants, stopped at early chemist to buy a pt because I was late on the way over. Couldn't thought I'd wee myself if I waited until I got home. Test was positive, I felt so sick, scared and overwhelmed (we thought we couldn't have children, and we'd been ttc for years, with nothing and that month was one where I was finally feeling at peace with it all!) I'd forgotten my keys so DP met me at the front door. He put his arms around me and kissed me on the head, then half an hour later at traffic lights on the way to work I think it sunk in, as he screached "oh my word Emilia you're bloody pregnant" 😂😂

Uiscebeatha85 · 21/06/2017 08:42

I arranged an hour of interpretative dance in the garden and when he didn't cotton on, drafted in the blimp with 'I'm pregnant' emblazoned on the front.

I just poas and said I'm pregnant. He congratulated me like he had nothing to do with it Grin
