Help me! Newborn clothes

Can anyone advise me what clothes I need for a newborn and how many I need of each?

I've tried looking on Google but every website I look on provides conflicting information.

Sainsbury's and Morrisons clothes are good quality. Tesco and Asda less so.

Ok now I have got in my basket:

12 x Sleepsuits - Newborn
6 x sleepsuits - 0-3 months

7 x long sleeve bodysuits both in newborn and 0-3
7 x short sleeve bodysuits both in newborn and 0-3

2 x mittens
2 x hats
1 x newborn cardigan and 1 x 0-3 cardigan
10 x bibs
12 x muslin cloths

And a born in 2017 sleepsuit for the hospital Smile

Do I need socks if the sleepsuits have feet?

You don't need socks. Do the sleepsuit have built in scratch mits? We have millions and didn't use them because in my experience they stay on for 0.3 seconds.bi won't use separate mits at all this time round.

I would ditch the long sleeve body suits. It is too warm to wear them under a sleepsuit. They are ideally for wearing with leggings or under dungarees which you don't have at this stage.

I would get another cardigan, only takes one sick incident for you to then be without.

I would also get some more vests. You might get through 3 a day in the first few weeks.

If you are planning on breastfeeding you don't really need bibs as they don't dribble milk everywhere when feeding like with a bottle.

Lauraw1989 · 02/05/2017 22:14

The plan is so far not to breastfeed (please don't judge me)

Honestly wouldn't bother getting more than a couple of newborn sleepsuits. Baby bundlers in newborn, yes. Sleepsuits, no. Bundlers (basically a baby nightie) accommodate a bigger/longer baby whereas sleepsuits dont. Every newborn babygrow I had didn't touch the sides of ds.

Also, don't bother with mittens, just get babygrows with them inbuilt.
Wouldn't advise getting long sleeve vests either.

We didn't find out the sex either.
I got 2 packs (6 in total) of White babygrows with built in mittens, 2 packs (6) of white vests. A pack of 10 bibs (that was the only size they did), a pack of 2 white hats and 2 pairs of mittens. Also a white cardigan, and a going home outfit in white- a babygrow and knitted white cardigan. That's what I had in my case for the hospital (in terms of baby clothes). I got them all from Mothercare, so the babygrows had built in mittens, and i got newborn size- up to 10lb. I knew I'd get pink or blue depending on what I had.
I had a boy, and I needed size tiny baby- up to 7.5lb.
I got 3 packs of babygrows with built in mittens, so I had 9. 3 packs of vests (9). I also got another couple of cardigans/jackets.
I didn't get anymore hats or extra mittens as it seemed pointless.
But all he wore was babygrows until he was around 1month.
So yeah I had 9 babygrows and 9 vests. 4 jackets/ cardigans, 2 hats, 2 extra mittens.
When he started wearing proper clothes, he had less babygrows.
