I am feeling absolutely terrible. I know I shouldn't complain too much because I am not actually vomiting. But I feel desperately sick, and it gets progressively worse throughout the day. It feels like a bad case of norovirus or something although unlike noro, I am pretty sure that in this case actually being sick wouldn't help.

I know these sickness threads have been done a million times but I keep reading about people whose sickness lasts well past 12 weeks. I can't bear the thought of that! Fortunately I am "working" from home (in fact not really working because I am struggling to concentrate through the nausea) but next week for example I have to stand up and deliver a talk to 400 delegates at a conference. I am dreading it and am having all sorts of nightmares about throwing up on stage!

So if you were feeling very sick at 10 weeks, did it get better any time soon after that? I have read that for some people it does peak around now. I'm desperately hoping that might be me.

I have two DC already but felt nothing like as shocking with them.

It usually stops when the second trimester starts.

Or so they say.

Me? I have full on nausea and vomiting until about week 26 every time Hmm

WaterworksFireworks · 27/04/2017 06:02

Yes. 12/3 weeks I started feeling much better. No more gagging over my breakfast before work. Good luck (and congratulations!)

underneaththestone · 27/04/2017 11:44

Thanks everybody. Considering asking the doctor for something to help me through the conferences but no idea if he/she would agree, and if so, it seems that most remedies make you very tired. So not sure how that would work when trying to remain coherent. Just praying I won't be a 16 weeker or longer.

I thought the same as you.. I don't feel anymore tired on the meds.. maybe a litype bur more coherent than when I felt awful all day. Go drs! I wish I had gone sooner !

underneaththestone · 27/04/2017 12:30

Flapattack or in fact anyone who has taken meds - did it help with the nausea or 'just' the vomiting? Do you mind saying what you are/were taking?

FlapAttack78 · 27/04/2017 12:54

Cyclizine helped with both for me. I feel the nausea coming back if I am late taking it. I was really worried it may just stop the vomiting but Which was my only relief from the nausea but it really does help with both for me. Heard a lot of people say it doesn't do muxh for them so I was reluctant to take it originally as thought i would be trying drug afyer drug and still feeling crap but with side effects too

underneaththestone · 27/04/2017 14:10

OK, I may try to beg some Cyclizine off the doctor tomorrow. If I can get an appointment that is. I've got a feeling that the answer will be no as I am not dehydrated so probably as I say shouldn't complain. But this nausea is terrible and I just can't concentrate on anything. It's miserable.

OP I'm on meds for relentless nausea (have been sick but not as much as last time). I'm taking metoclopramide though as it's what I took last time and meant that I could at least function day to day. Good luck - it's truly awful.

turquoise88 · 27/04/2017 14:13

Also, it helps a bit with the nausea but doesn't make it go away entirely.

MaverickSnoopy · 27/04/2017 14:16

I was just like this with my second, no vomiting but extreme nausea between weeks 9-14. I pretty much stopped eating and I couldn't stand tea. I lived on orange squash and cereal bars. I seemed to be able to manage starchy dry food a bit so ate rice cakes and crackers in small quantities. Lost about half a stone by week 14. Rest as much as you can, slow deep breathing and little sips of water....and hope for the best.

underneaththestone · 27/04/2017 14:24

Yes starchy or sweet food and squash is about what I can manage. One thing that is happening is that as soon as I eat something, I develop a strong aversion to it. So had a baked potato yesterday. Now even the thought of baked potatoes is unspeakably disgusting! I can manage when I am "working" at home, alone. But the thought of deep breathing next week in front of hundreds of conference delegates ... they'll probably think I'm terribly hungover or something!!

For me cyclizine takes away the worst of the nausea - I only retch when I'm properly exerting myself if I've taken my tablet and usually only in the morning. Before I could hardly move off the sofa without retching.

Chrysanthemum5 · 27/04/2017 18:38

Both times I felt really sick and then it stopped overnight at 12 weeks and I felt great. Fingers crossed for you!

10storeylovesong · 27/04/2017 19:51

Cyclizine didn't work for me and made me so sleepy I couldn't drive. The consultant prescribed me ondansetron which worked much better for me personally. I believe it's not as widely used though and I had to try cyclizine first.

CreamCheez · 27/04/2017 21:53

I'm taking Pregnacare Morning. I haven't been feeling sick at all. Anytime I take it later in the day, I start to feel queasy by dinner. I only made the link last night. I don't know if I'm just lucky or if it is the reason why I'm not sick? Includes Ginger & B Vits.

Notlostjustexploring · 27/04/2017 22:28

You have my sympathy. It completely sucks. I've honestly never felt so debilitated, through sheer exhaustion and nausea, as I did between 7-10 weeks pregnant. I honestly, hand on heart, felt better post 48hr induction, 17 hour labour and emcs than I did during week ten of pregnancy. I actually called in sick for three days, and I'm just not that kind of person.
After ten weeks I started feeling progressively better, and although I did start vomiting, that I think helped me feel better. And gets you far more sympathy

I know what you mean about the food thing though, any notion for food had a shelf life of

Crunchyside · 27/04/2017 22:36

I think it started getting better around 12 weeks but not rapidly. It was a case of 24hr nausea up until about 12 weeks, then around that time I started having one hour a day where I felt better, then 1.5 hours, then 2 hours, etc and eventually by 16 or so weeks the severity of the nausea had also improved and it was only bad on long car journeys etc. Unfortunately my commute is a 1hr car journey as a passenger on really bumpy, winding country roads Sad It's not been fun during pregnancy!

By the way, even if you don't want to ask for anti sickness pills (which you can, and they're very safe to take!) you can at least call your GP and get them to sign you off work, I had several weeks off, I didn't even have to see the GP I just spoke to him on the phone and he happily signed me off!

Weirdly when the nausea went I started gagging and retching a lot, for no real reason! But that stopped about half way through the pregnancy.

fakenamefornow · 27/04/2017 22:45

I was vomiting the whole nine months. I had to keep a bucket under my bed because I would even wake up in the middle of the night and be sick. It was like that for all three. And I had nine months of diarrhoea, or well, very soft, no liquid. God I'm glad this is anonymous.

fakenamefornow · 27/04/2017 22:46

Congratulations btw. :)

thenightsky · 27/04/2017 22:50

At 14 weeks I sudden realised I hadn't felt sick for a good few days.

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 27/04/2017 22:51

It was more like 14 weeks for me but it literally stopped overnight all 3 times. I expected it to gradually ease off but it didn't. I just woke up no longer feeling sick - was lovely Smile

FlapAttack78 · 28/04/2017 17:29

Did you get anything from dr OP?

actino · 29/04/2017 07:04

I'm at 12 weeks and feel much better than two weeks ago. My experience sounds a lot like yours, felt like I had a cold and had constant nausea but no vomiting (lots of coughing up). I'm still low on energy, but the nausea has faded significantly.

actino · 29/04/2017 07:07

Just remembered what my mom told me when I was in the thick of it. She said that she felt awful ask the time, then had a few good moments, then had good parts of days, then had good days, then it was gone.

So try to focus on the good moments, then the good hours, then the good days.
Doing that had really helped my spirits.

AnyFarrahFowler · 29/04/2017 13:06

How are you, OP?
Mine stopped at 17 weeks with DS, whilst we were on holiday abroad. I'm currently 12 weeks with DC2 and sickness stopped at 8 weeks whilst we were...on holiday abroad! So I prescribe a holiday, sunshine, and rest for you - pronto! Smile
