Do Braxton Hicks get worse in subsequent pgs or have I just forgotten what they are like?

Do Braxton Hicks get worse in subsequent pgs?

I am on preg no2 and embarrassingly have to stop frequently while walking due to bump pain (which I assume are BHs)
Now with no1 I wasn't pushing a toddler in a buggy but I don't recall them being this strong or painful.

Mine definitely got worse with number 2

DumbledoresGirl · 12/03/2007 10:46

Yes I think they get worse too. I don't remember them much with ds1 and ds2 but with dd and ds3 I remember them well. And the pre-labour bit seems worse too, just to warn you. Endless days of it this labour or not before it actually starts.

2Happy · 12/03/2007 10:48

They get worse. As do the afterpains. Sorry!

Piffle · 12/03/2007 10:51

Am on no 3 and yes they get worse

And you do also forget, thinking oooh this could be it.
then when you do go into labour you are in no doubt...
Tis very frustrating...

TheBlonde · 12/03/2007 11:49

Thanks all, finding them annoying but was slightly concerned it might be something else
Feeling reassured now

They do get worse each pregnancy, it's not good. By the time i had my last baby (#5) i was convinced i was in labour each time, this was dangerous though as i soon became very dismissive of them and when i went in to labour (it was only 40 mins) i doubted that it was the real thing. The midwife just made it to the house!

Im 32 weeks preg with #6 and will try to interpret them better this time but i dont hold out much hope! Good luck!

expatinscotland · 12/03/2007 12:12

They get worse.

With DD2 I had them worst of all the day before she was born.

But then, got a nice, short, fast labour.

HORRID afterbirth pains, though.

Piffle · 12/03/2007 18:16

I'm thoroughly hacked off with mine today
38+4 and getting the damned things every 10 minutes if upright and that includes sitting
REducing to every 20-30 mins if I lay down

I had a really fast labour both previous times and I know they do good

But god they are annoying...
I Hope this baby comes out soonest...

lulumama · 12/03/2007 18:19

had the same as you TheBlonde....I walk through a park to get DS from school , and many times at the end of pregnancy, i;d have to be helped back to my car, or have concerned mums sit with me for a few minutes while the BH subsided!

make sure you are having enough fluids as lack of fluid can be a factor !

lulumama · 12/03/2007 18:20

38+4 Piffle ! where did that go !!

largeginandtonic · 12/03/2007 19:47

Lulu i feel a do ya think your in labour thread coming on.......sure your ok piffle, no niggles, neverending show? Feel the need for a self service sweep......

Piffle · 12/03/2007 20:01

right then on the promise of fluids helping I'm off to skull large quantities of water.

If i had a show I might be less peeved but nothing of the kind.

Unless increased quantities of CM mean anything show like

Yes this pregnancy has gone fast tbh, but oh the last few wks do drag so...

Check on you later.....

Piffle · 13/03/2007 08:03

lul if I go overdue, it won't be entertainment poppet...
It'll be a horror film

I had such a bad night

I can't recall how long BH's can continue at this intensity for before baby comes...

lulumama · 13/03/2007 09:10

it all bodes well , piffle ! baby will shoot out !

Piffle · 13/03/2007 09:33

well the last two did so here is hoping

Piffle · 13/03/2007 09:34

am having homebirth too and am surrounded where I live by 4 midwives who live within 2 mins walk of my house
I am covered I am told!

largeginandtonic · 13/03/2007 09:45

Oh Piffle lucky you! How nice to have a midwife to attend.....mine said the other day "we missed another one yesterday"!!!!

There is such a shortage they keep sending in the midwives on call to work shifts in the hospital, 40 minutes away!

I had my last 2 at home but think im going to go to hospital to have this one as im relocating to my MIL'S for the birth in Plymouth (i live in Portsmouth) The last baby came out in 40 mins so im hoping i make it!

Poor you Piffle with the braxton Hicks, i was convinced it was contractions most of the time. It did mean a very quick birth though so was worth it. Hope you dont have to suffer too much longer.

Am off to clean....DH coming home, yay! Tis a rare occurence in this house.......DH coming home not the cleaning....

Piffle · 13/03/2007 10:12

Will be lucky IF this baby ever comes out...

I had dd bang on 38 wks so am feeling very peeved.

I know boys are meant to be lazier....

Right must go and dress the child who is here
