Hey all,

So I'm being induced on Saturday but have read that most inductions end in csections which I really don't want if I don't have to.

Here's a bit of background:
37+1 on the day il be induced
Reason for induction: obstetric cholestasis
This is my first pregnancy and first baby.
Baby is head down but not engaged

Can't think of anything else that is relevant.

Given the fact il be 37+1, I don't need steroid injections do I??

Also, shall I just keep quiet and hope the induction goes well? If a section is needed then of course go with that when it comes??

Please help!!

I was induced at 37 weeks due to obstetric cholestasis. Gel on day one, brought on some contractions but not much. More gel on day two and I was dilated a couple of cm. Day three they broke my waters and put me on the drip. I coped fine without any pain relief and baby was born after 6 hours, it would have been much quicker but he got stuck.

anametouse · 24/03/2017 10:12

Just so you know, my c section was brilliant. No pain during or after, I was really overly cautious but to be honest wasn't "out of action" for very long at all and I would imagine you need the same amount of rest after a vaginal birth.

Very best wishes to you, come back and tell us when baby is here Smile

I had a drip with my first, DS born 4 hours later. I didn't need any pain relief at all in the end, it was sore but totally bearable. I did have an amazing midwife who helped me stay active and move about lots despite having the drip and all sorts of monitors attached to me. She was about 6 months pregnant herself at the time and at one point was practically lying on the floor to keep my monitor on while I rocked!

MyBreadIsEggy · 24/03/2017 10:58

Induced at 38 weeks due to PROM.
The birth itself was fine - contracting 20 mins after pessary inserted. Things slowed down, syntocinon drip started. Baby born 3hrs later. No pain relief.
Inductions are a bit hit and miss I think! Mine was super super quick, but my friend's took 3 days until her baby was born.

Igottastartthinkingbee · 24/03/2017 11:04

I was induced with second DC. First pessary did nothing, second pessary kicked things off, baby born vaginally 4 hours later. Paracetamol, Tens machine and gas & air. I had high blood pressure issues which a midwife said can speeds labour up. No idea if that's true but my body definitely doesn't like being pregnant (severe pre eclampsia in first pregnancy) so it's like my body needed the baby to be out fast.

I had a section with my first and yes it was shit. But it got us both through it alive and well so focus on that if you end up with a section.

anxiousandpregnant · 24/03/2017 11:25

DC 2 - Waters broke on due date, got to about 24 hours later and contractions had still not started so they gave me a pessary and said nothing was likely to happen anytime soon but my contractions really kicked in about an hour later and I think it took about 6 hours or so for him to be delivered naturally. No c section thankfully, im actually really terrified of having one. Currently 12 weeks pregnant with DC3 and hoping for a smooth labour but like you said...life isn't a fairy tale ;)

Toobloodytired · 24/03/2017 17:18

Oh I bloody hope I have a smooth labour!

I guess it's how you deal/cope with it too. If 10 women had exactly the same labour, I'm sure there's 50/50 chance 5 will say it was lovely & the other 5 would say it was traumatising.

I feel a lot calmer knowing my mum will be there the entire time, she's had 6 kids all different experiences so she'll be able to keep me calm!

Fingers crossed they've got a bed for me!!

Cleaned my flat ready! Even though I'm staying at my mums for 2 weeks after lol.

I will keep everyone updated as soon as I go in....not long now! Xx

Good luck! I kept telling myself "at the very worst, it's a grim couple of days- and I can get through a couple of days". And In fact it was just a few not-too-bad hours for me.
I did a lot of walking up and down the hospital stairs sideways too...

P1nkSparkles · 25/03/2017 18:21

Good luck!!

Toobloodytired · 25/03/2017 18:59

Still got the propess in.

Having minor pain in back but nothing major! Hoping something will happen soon!

First baby so they don't expect much

Wooo exciting !! Good luck

anametouse · 27/03/2017 09:27

How you doing op?

Toobloodytired · 27/03/2017 14:27

Hey guys, sorry haven't messaged!

I'm currently on the labour suite, had my waters broken, epidural put in & drip turned on.

I've been letting the epidural wear off to see if I can cope.

Waiting to be examined as last time they checked, I was 2cm

OP posts:
duxb · 27/03/2017 17:06

I was induced at 41+9 and it was long and complex for me.

Pessary, then my contractions were too intense so they left me for 12 hours. Nothing happened so has two lots of gel and was 2cm dialleted - 48 hours after I'd been admitted.

Just gas and air, for fifteen hours but was put on the drip. Baby was in a dangerous position (head and neck position in relation to her body) so they attempted an epidural when I was 7.5cm and contracting every 3 minutes. First couldn't get it in, head came and got in in but it failed. Baby was in distress (two scalp scrapes) and they thought she might break her neck so they got my consent for an emergency section. Spinal failed and I had to go under.

Baby was fine but I lost an awful lot of blood and nearly had to have a transfusion.

Apparently the pain is worse on the drip but I didn't feel to bad (first baby) and managed just using gas and air sporadically. If baby hadn't have been in such an akward position I would have laboured naturally.

Went to the labour ward at around noon on the Thursday and baby was born at 5.15am on the Friday morning.

I will add that despite my emergency section, I recovered quicker than I thought and was driving within a fortnight (after getting the all clear from my midwife and car insurance!) Just keep on top of meds and make sure you find a way to lay in bed supported.

All the best.

Toobloodytired · 27/03/2017 18:44

Fully dilated, half hour and il start pushing. He will be here soon!!

I have been induced once and it did result in a c seaction.
However they will only do one if it's absolutely nessesary. I was on a ward of 5 women when I got induced and I was the only one who had a c seaction.
There is no rhym or reason to labour. your delivery will be an experience you treasure no mater how the baby comes out. As long as your both happy and healthy that's all that matters and no amount of worrying now will change it. Cake

Igottastartthinkingbee · 27/03/2017 20:23

Well done op, I'm hoping he's here by now!

Toobloodytired · 27/03/2017 21:06

Update:

My baby boy arrived at 19:52 on 27th March.

He hasn't been weighed as yet as he had his cord wrapped around his neck and has been taken to NICU for extra support.

Once the feeling comes back to my legs, I can go see him.

Honestly just want to go down and see him! Haven't held him yet....so emotional.
