Interested to know the answers to this question Smile

Midwife said to me that 'a girl my size isn't going to make a 6 pounder'. For the record Im 5,9, size 10/12. Not the best thing to be told!

I believe the size of your baby is only determined by the space it has available to grow and how it is fed.

So I suppose the taller you are the more likely you are to have a larger uterus.

I also believe it is the size of the head which is the significant factor when pushing them out!

CanISayOfHerFace · 14/02/2017 20:22

I'm 5' 11" Size 10

DS 9lb 6oz (2 weeks late)
DD 7lb 4oz (1 week early)

NoChocolateThanks · 14/02/2017 20:22

5'4",8 stones ( was prem myself,4lb)
DS1 7.5 lb
DS2 8.3 lb ( I was so relived as doc estimated his birthweight as around 11lb)
So clearly size doesn't matter

Terramirabilis · 14/02/2017 20:23

5'8" 8'3" lbs.

Heatherbell1978 · 14/02/2017 20:25

I'm 5'5 and size 8/10. DH is 5'8 and slim. DS was 7lb 8oz and 52 cm (bang on 50th centile for both weight and height). Expecting DD in next 2 weeks and me thinks she'll be similar. I think maybe a bit smaller.....we shall see...

ToElleWithIt · 14/02/2017 20:28

5'10 size 8 and mine were 8lb 13 and 8lb 2 (both slightly early. They were long too -56cm. Everyone tall I know has had a big to v big baby whereas those of more average height / shorter have a broader range IMO!!

EsmeWeatherwax · 14/02/2017 20:29

I'm 6 ft and my husband is 6ft 5. Dd1 was my heaviest at 8lbs 10, Dd2 was 8lbs 1 and Ds was 7lbs 10.

I fairly normal sized. But by god they grew fast! All three are above the top centile for height and weight now!

Thurlow · 14/02/2017 20:31

5'1 and I had 8lb 1oz and a 8lb 4oz babies.

Both times the midwife who saw me all pregnancy was surprised the baby was that big.

LexieLulu · 14/02/2017 20:31

I'm 5'1" and have had two near 8lb babies (7lb 15oz and 7lb 14oz). I gained about 26lb during my pregnancies.

Weirdly, my MIL's children were the same weight as mine! My husband was 7lb 15oz born. I don't know if there's any connection.

My mums children were all in the 7lb range x

ineedamoreadultieradult · 14/02/2017 20:32

5 foot 5 and I had one 8lb 10 and one 8lb 3

hugoagogo · 14/02/2017 20:32

I am 5ft
Ds was 9lb 3oz and is now just over 6ft at 18 yrs
Dd was 9lb 13oz and is now about 5ft 5 at 14 yrs
Looking at their school friends- they are all tall I think it's less to do with genetics and more to do with diet.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 14/02/2017 20:33

I'm 6ft, DS had IUGR and was 4lb 11. He's caught up now though

Smellybluecheese · 14/02/2017 20:33

I'm 5'0, DD was 7lb3.

ExpectoPatronummmm · 14/02/2017 20:35

Im 5"8 size 10-12 (the father is 5"9)
I had 8lb 12 and 9lb 3

My son is now 12 and has always been tallest in his class.
Daughter seems to be average height.

I found being tall means no huge bump and we lose the weight quickly

elQuintoConyo · 14/02/2017 21:18

I'm 5ft4 (1m53).
DH 6ft (1m84).
DS 53.5cm (21 inches) and 9lb7 (4.4kg).

He is 5.2yo (to be specific!) and 1m12. Abput average. Altho he looms over some of his peers as we're in a short-ish country Grin

gunting · 14/02/2017 21:21

I'm 5'8, DP is 6'1. My son was 10lb 6oz and 60cm long so a big un!

Hellmouth · 14/02/2017 21:23

I'm 5 ft 3, currently size 12.
DP is 5ft 11. I'm not sure of his weight but he's fairly slim.
DS was 8lb 11 oz at birth, and 53 cm long. He was in the 75th percentile. He's now 7 months old and filling out 9-12 month clothing and in the 91st percentile.

We both have really tall people in our families, so I think DS got the tall gene :D

SansaClegane · 14/02/2017 21:31

I'm 5'7" and mine were all 10lbs+; they're now 3, 5 and 7 years old and all on the 91st-98th height centile.

I've heard that using your own birth weight (and that of your siblings) as a guide for your own baby's birth weight is very accurate, whereas the father's height/weight has little influence on birth weight.

GreedyDuck · 15/02/2017 06:50

I'm 4'11' and DD was 8lbs 3oz. Her father is 6ft though, and I had a touch of GD.

Cloudhopping · 15/02/2017 06:58

5ft 9, size 12/14 and I had a 7lb11 and 7lb14 so not huge.

nooka · 15/02/2017 07:05

I'm tall (5'10") and so is dh (6'5") but ds and dd were both quite light - 6lb 11 and 6lb 13. Both long/tall though especially dd. I'm the shortest now they are teenagers, dd is almost 6ft and ds is around 6'2" (and still growing).

I seem to recall that my sisters girls were both heavier than my two at birth. She is quite petite and her dh is short too, and my nieces are quite dainty too.

Phillipa12 · 15/02/2017 07:08

Im 5ft4 and a size 10 i have had dc weighing in at 9lb, 10.9lb, 9.14lb and 11.6lb.

DianaMemorialJam · 15/02/2017 07:09

5' 11"
Ds1 was 6 pounds 2 ounces
Ds2 was 7 pounds 9 ounces

BertieBotts · 15/02/2017 07:11

I'm about 5 foot 8, baby was 6lb 11. I was an 8/10.

It's your hip size, plus gestation and presence or not of diabetes which determines size at birth rather than your height. Many babies catch up/down to a size which is more in line with their parents heights by 2 weeks old.

Hulababy · 15/02/2017 07:11

I'm 5 foot.
Dd was 6lb15 when born.

Dd is 14 now (nearly 15) and about 5'4 - she's not really grown for a year or so , so probably going to stay around that. When growing up she went through some tall stages but gradually eased off. So don't think she will end up tall at all now.
