I'm suffering throughout the night and find sucking on a sugar free (to try save my teeth) polo whenever I wake up helps

carrotcakecupcake · 04/02/2017 20:37

Mine kicked in today - thought I was going to be lucky and avoid it this time. Mint chewable gaviscon is my go to - with a glass of water to get the bits that get stuck in my teeth (boak). Still makes me gag but does give relief

jld128 · 04/02/2017 20:38

Thanks everyone, i've managed to avoid so far unless i eat strawberries but it's really kicked in today

I have tried everything and the only thing that works is gaviscon advanced tablets.
I'm currently 34 weeks pregnant and reckon I've spent 40 quid so far on heartburn/indegestion

DirtyDancing · 04/02/2017 20:53

Gavisco and tums. And I have got a massive bottle of Gaviscon on prescription from my GP, as I literally need to down it from the bottle some days!

Laura2507 · 04/02/2017 20:57

I got the Gaviscon advance from the gp in the week but its aniseed flavour, yuk! And I vomited not longer after taking it so not very keen on trying it again (could be unrelated though)

Have people found Gaviscon tablets or liquid more affective?

lifeisazebracrossing · 04/02/2017 21:00

I had this sooo badly fro second trimester and had to get Omeprazol on repeat prescription from 20 weeks in as I started losing weight whilst struggling to eat. Think it was more GERD as it was so bad.

throughgrittedteeth · 04/02/2017 21:05

I posted the same thing a few weeks ago. Orange rennies worked for me for a bit too but I've ended up getting a prescription of omeprazole because it wouldn't ease. I've take 4 in total, about one week, because the effects of it seem to last a while. Gaviscon liquid in mint is good too but I just don't like the flavour or consistency.

throughgrittedteeth · 04/02/2017 21:06

*about one a week

raviolidreaming · 04/02/2017 23:39

Orange Rennies and a prescription from my GP for Ranitidine.

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/02/2017 23:45

I've had heartburn for months

Gaviscon is the way to go

I have a rolling monthly prescription from gp

Just as well as s large bottle is £11 and I get thro 2 a month

But it does bloody work

A glug and I feel the pain ease away

I do wonder if will have a bubs with lots of hair .,,,,,

catx1606 · 04/02/2017 23:53

I use the mint flavoured gaviscon. It has been amazing for my heartburn which I never used to get until I was pregnant

Katurah · 05/02/2017 10:09

Gaviscon and love heart sweets worked for me!

PickleSarnie · 05/02/2017 12:15

First time around, swigging gaviscon from the bottle helped.

Second time around Omeprazole was the only thing that helped. It was bloody awesome.

imisschocolate · 05/02/2017 18:17

I'm getting peppermint peptac from docs. Its the only thing that works for me. Pharmacist told me that liquid gaviscon is ok to use when pregnant. Used that when forgot to ask for repeat.

jld128 · 05/02/2017 18:59

mint liquid gavisvon seems to be doing the trick! although walking around swigging out the bottle is getting me some funny looks!

someone else told me to try love heart sweets so i'll have to give them a go :)

I have terrible heartburn, it makes me throw up. Gaviscon doesn't touch it at all and neither do rennies, but in both pregnancies ranitidine has been my saviour!

mistermagpie · 05/02/2017 19:48

Oh and the first time everybody said I would have a hairy baby, when he was born he didn't have any hair at all and no eyelashes or anything! Now he's 18 months and still barely has fuzz. Will have to wait and see if this one is hairy!

jld128 · 05/02/2017 20:27

see i was told ranitidine wasn't allowed i'd of took that before i was pregnant

Rarotonga · 05/02/2017 20:54

Yy to orange rennies. Also a mug of cold milk or a yoghurt can sooth it too.

mistermagpie · 05/02/2017 21:30

Both ranitidine and omeprazole are safe in pregnancy but you should get advice from the Dr before taking. I think they are to be avoided in early pregnancy though but I've only had heartburn after 30 weeks so I'm not sure.
