...did it start very early on in your pregnancy (if you can remember that is)?
Or did it kick in with a vengeance later on?
Just wondering if there is a correlation between severity and onset - hope I am making sense!

Mine started within days of conception, and lasted until the day after I gave birth.

My second pregnancy was far better.

janeite · 26/02/2007 20:16

Hi - I had awful morning sickness, to the point of being hospitalised both times. Was sick constantly, all day, even water, to the point that I lost one and a half stone each time. It kicked in very early on and lasted until 4 months, after which I felt really well on the whole. Hope you feel better soon. x

amidaiwish · 26/02/2007 20:17

with DD1 it didn't start til i was 11 weeks (thought i had got away with it), lasted til about 22 weeks. was ill most days, awful

with DD2 it started at 5 weeks, lasted til about 20 weeks. pretty much as bad as the first - though was also during a very hot summer which probably made it worse.

so - no correlation imo.

Rowlers · 26/02/2007 20:19

Thanks Janeite
Actually, dd is now almost 3 and when I was pregnant with her I suffered very badly. And I think it started very early on.
Am now wondering if I will be luckier this time. Nothing so far - just hunger pangs now and then.

Rowlers - as I said - my second pregnancy was a huge relief not to be so sick - I spent the first 12 weeks expecting the sickness and vomiting to kick in - but it never really did. Hope you have a better time of it then with your first

Rowlers · 26/02/2007 20:23

I've got my fingers crossed belgo!
Last time was so very bad I swore dd would be an only child.

With dd1, it started at 6 weeks, was only actually sick a few times, but felt nauseous all the time, all day sickness, like the you're about to be sick feeling all the time, until about 14 weeks.
Slightly better with dd2, started 6 weeks until 12/13 weeks, first 2 weeks were like dd1, then it got a bit better and just felt really ill all evening from about 5/6pm til I went to bed.
I think with dd2 it was worse when tired, as i was much more tired cos already had dd1, who was 2 when I conceived.

3 pregnancies, 3 lots of morning sickness. 2 girls and 1 boy.no discernable difference in severity.

I am thinner at the end of a pregnancy than at the beginning. Outcome- 3 healthy babies.

It was not simply feeling nauseous but actual throwing up all day long. At one particularly low point I walked around with a bucket over my arm like a handbag.

Miaou · 26/02/2007 20:34

Not sure if mine counts as "very bad", not been hospitalised with it. However this pg I have been sick up to half a dozen times a day. This is my fourth pg; m/s started at 5/6 weeks (earlier than the rest) and was significantly worse, nausea was constant. Had a lull around 13 weeks for a couple of weeks where it calmed down, then started again with a vengeance! Am 19 weeks now and today is the first day I haven't been sick since my "lull" - lets hope it lasts!

All the best rowlers, hope you are ok! Totally understand why it put you off, all I can say is I'm glad we planned this one to be the last because no way will there be a follow-up

BandofMothers · 26/02/2007 20:36

Miaou, could it be twins?
After reading some of these you can erase mine. I feel I got off lightly.

Miaou · 26/02/2007 20:39

lol no! Fortunately had this confirmed at my 13 week scan (first thing we asked ). My bump is still (relatively) small too so no surprises

BandofMothers · 26/02/2007 20:41

Phew!!!!
Guess it's a good strong baby.

Rowlers · 26/02/2007 20:46

I am still at a very early stage still so I have a weird feeling of joy that I am not suffering coupled with a awful sense of foreboding as to what might be around the corner....

Mayowoman · 26/02/2007 20:54

With my first I had all day and all night sickness. I used to drive to work and would have to pull up at the side of the road to throw up. I couldn't get out of bed in the morning until I had a cup of tea and some toast so that I had a least something to throw up rather than vile bile. I began throwing up at about 6 weeks in to my pregnancy and it didnt' stop until I had the baby. The subsequent pregnancies were fabulously puke-free.

macneil · 26/02/2007 21:00

Mine started at about 8 weeks and continued to delivery date. I have mentioned this about 2000 times on mumsnet because I feel like I will never be able to complain about it enough. It was very severe, although I had a couple of weeks around week 20-22 when I was only sick once or twice a day, although still felt sick all day. The rest of the time it was half a dozen to 2 dozen throwings up. Not allowed to drink water on day of c-section, just retched and retched all morning and thought I might actually die.

Rowlers · 26/02/2007 21:02

Crikey macneil - sounds like purgatory.
Mayowoman - you give me hope!

BandofMothers · 26/02/2007 21:04

Macneil, ouch. I assume you only have the one dc?

DimpledThighs · 26/02/2007 21:04

started at 2 weeks went on until week 18. same with both boy and a girl.

Drank LOADS of fizzy water and carried aeroplane sick bags in my handbag.

Nice!

Bucketsofdynomite · 26/02/2007 21:06

First time: Bang on 6wks-16wks average 3 pukes a day + constant nausea.
2nd time: Bang on 6wks-12wks average 1 puke a day + constant nausea.
But I can't complain because I lost 2stone of excess weight the first time and had none left to lose after birth!

macneil · 26/02/2007 21:06

I do only have the one, and swore never again, but already (she's three months) am thinking, eh, it's only puking, stop being a jessie.

madmarchhare · 26/02/2007 21:07

Very nauseous early on but not physically sick until around 6 weeks, then hideous up to about 8 months but still vomitting even in labour.

lou33 · 26/02/2007 21:07

early start, and lasted til about 16 weeks

madmarchhare · 26/02/2007 21:09

It was enough for me to stick with just the one.

Rowlers · 26/02/2007 21:11

You see last time I remember starting to feel "odd" early on, then feeling nauseous, then vomiting on a regular basis throughout the day - it built up, probably over the course of a couple of weeks.
This time just feels different - am interested in the reports of it suddenly starting. I have presumed this means feeling right as rain one day and sick the next?

Bucketsofdynomite · 26/02/2007 21:15

Yes, it can happen very quickly. 2nd time I was pushing a trolley round Asda and got that awful hunger-nausea like a punch in the stomach and had to open a packet of sasuage rolls before I got to the checkout. Think that's evidence of the blood sugar levels factor.
