Knowing Gender before confirmation

Hi!

I'm 12 weeks pregnant so won't find out the gender for a little while yet but will before they arrive. I am convinced I'm going to have a boy and haven't even considered it might be a girl. I have to actively remind myself that it could be either.

I'm not going to be upset if it is a girl as I'm happy either way, im just surprised how much I think it's a boy.

Did anyone else feel sure about the gender? Were you correct?

I was absolutely convinced I was having a girl. I kept having dreams that it was a boy but I just knew it would be a girl.

It was a boy. Took me a second to believe my husband when he announced it in the delivery room and I had to check between his legs myself!

SociallyAcceptableCookie · 02/01/2017 22:31

I was convinced I was having a girl, as was my mum, and DH and I spent hours discussing girl names. The night before the 20 week scan he said to me, "What will we do if it's a boy?" Because we'd barely considered the possibility.

It was a boy. And he's gorgeous and wonderful and I wouldn't give him up for all the girls in the world. But I'm now 9 weeks pregnant and I once again hope it's a girl!

I knew I was having DCDA twins so they could have been boy/boy boy/girl or girl/girl.
All of my friends and family guessed either boy/girl or girl/girl.
I was so sure they were two boys. I'd been having dreams of two little blonde boys on a swing set. Sure enough two blonde baby boys!!

Elledouble · 02/01/2017 22:34

I was convinced throughout my pregnancy that I was having a girl - I think I'd always assumed my firstborn would be a girl. Everyone else seemed to think the same (except my partner and my dad!), including my midwife and one friend who'd always guessed the sex of people's babies correctly.

Fast forward to childbirth and my baby was born back-to-back - and lo and behold, there were those swollen baby boy bits as the midwife held him up as he emerged! Just as well really as we'd only been able to decide on a boy's name...

originalusernamefail · 02/01/2017 22:50

With DS1 I was certain. I remember saying to DH the night before the 12w scan, we'll be seeing HIM tomorrow. I was right. With DS2 I just didn't get a certain feeling one way or another.

haveacupoftea · 02/01/2017 22:55

I was pretty sure I was having a boy, but then the chinese predictor chart said girl, the wee test said girl and a psychic told me its a girl.

Went for a scan the other day and lo and behold he's a boy Grin

Stingray2008 · 02/01/2017 22:59

I was so convinced my third was a girl i didnt find out. It wasnt until he was born and i had been shown by the midwife who was sick of arguing with me that he wasnt a girl that i admited i was wrong. I was so convinced he was a girl that id told dp he could name him after his motorbike if i was wrong so now he has a bike name as his middle name. Lukily it isnt an awful name.

Graphista · 02/01/2017 23:00

We knew dd was a girl from the start. Asked not to be told at scans no need and we didn't really care.

I also have a friend that knows people are pregnant before they do and correctly predicts sex. Told me I was pregnant before dd confirmed.

My mum always tells me a story about a woman she worked with years ago, before scans and stuff, was so convinced she was having a girl she bought everything pink while pregnant. She had a boy.

cx5221 · 02/01/2017 23:24

I was convinced I was having a girl with dc1.
Not only that everyone was convinced I was having a girl because I was sooooo sick (hyperemesis) my mum, mil, sister, GP, doctors receptionist and even a midwife who was 'convinced' dc would be a girl due to vomiting, bump shape and heart beat (sounding like a galloping horse Confused )

So I was stunned when I went for my 20 week scan and was told I was having a boy. I was thrilled either way but really surprised as I was utterly convinced I was having a girl.

Alb1 · 02/01/2017 23:40

First time I was absolutely convinced I was having a girl - he's now a 2 year old boy, second time I was sure it would be a boy, had a girl instead. This time I'm absolutely sure it's a boy, sex scan is tomorrow so I guess we'll find out if I'm right for a change!

ConvincingLiar · 03/01/2017 06:53

I was confident and correct. My friend was confident about her baby and was incorrect. It's 50:50.

SprogletsMum · 03/01/2017 06:59

I was wrong with dc 1, 2 and 3 but with dc4 I knew he'd be a boy because him being a girl would have been easier.

Snowflakes1122 · 03/01/2017 06:59

Out of four pregnancies, I have only been correct once!

Cliffdiver · 03/01/2017 07:46

I knew both DDs would be girls.

Even before I was pregnant I just knew I would have two daughters, it's hard to explain.

Manumission · 03/01/2017 07:48

I was convinced I was having a boyfriend the minute I found out I was pregnant

😂😂😂

Yes that's how it normally happens! 😄

BikeRunSki · 03/01/2017 07:59

I knew I was having a boy both times. I was right once.

Becciilouisex3 · 03/01/2017 08:10

Honestly, I think it's just luck, you do only have 2 options after all! I was right about my DS being a boy Smile

I thinking the motherly "knowing" would be a little more impressive if there were, say, ten sexes and a high percentage of mom's correctly stated the sex of their baby. It's totally guesswork in my experience as many moms I know have been convinced enough to paint the nursery and be wrong Smile

Littlelegs19 · 03/01/2017 08:19

From the day I found out I was pregnant until around 2 weeks before my 20 week scan I was 100% sure we were having a girl then all of a sudden I just 'felt' I was carrying a boy and I was! Only my DSis and a close friend said boy from the start so everyone was shocked when we told them he was a boy! :)

toomuchtimereadingthreads2016 · 03/01/2017 08:27

Exactly the same here! was convinced DD1 was a boy and couldn't get my head around the possibility that I was wrong! When we were told at 15weeks it took a few hours to sink in! Now with my second I am convinced we are having another girl, and people who have seen my 12w scan think girl too... But the pregnancies have been chalk and cheese, and I dont have a good track record of guessing! STruggling to keep an open mind!

Patienceandchocolate · 03/01/2017 10:11

I had a similar experience to Ovaries. I was convinced that DS2 would be a girl. Everyone I know has a boy and then a girl. I referred to the baby as "she" throughout my pregnancy.

When he was born, from the moment I saw him I felt like I had been waiting for him all my life. I thought, "of course, it is you." It is difficult to explain.

FlyingCat · 03/01/2017 10:14

I was totally convinced all the way through that I was having a boy... she's now a very lovely 6 month old girl!

Was quite a shock at delivery - I think I asked them to double check!

FlyingCat · 03/01/2017 10:17

I think I was most convinced it must be a boy because of how different I felt while pregnant - my first had been a girl and an easy pregnancy, second was a much harder pregnancy felt sicker, more anxious and generally worse throughout and bump a totally different shape. But lo and behold a girl again!

CharlieDaley90 · 03/01/2017 10:20

I think it's fun to go with your instinct. I'm 16 weeks and am convinced its a boy, have felt it from the start. Definitely not finding out at my 20 week scan as feel thats the most exciting surprise of the entire thing!

ghostwatch · 03/01/2017 10:26

Don't know if it's coincidence but I was convinced (certain) I was having girls both times and only really picked out girls names. I have 2 girls.
