I don't normally wear make-up, so that didn't even enter my thoughts.

And it wouldn't have matched my huge track bottoms and sweater. Grin

You may want to put some in your hospital bag for that first photo, if it's important to you. But there's always photoshop. Wink

Funny Purple I did the same - skin coverage to look "normal" rather than attractive. But generally I'm very much a naked from the chandeliers all hang out type of person and I didn't care at all how many people saw my body or birth. For me it's just the bad skin I care about hiding.

raven I had emcs in March, even after a complicated emcs, requiring blood transfusion etc and with catheter in and drip etc still in they get you up and moving. Tubes and all as it's better for your recovery... Not what I felt like doing at 11pm, hours after surgery but it's standard now apparently. Mastitis is awful, have had it a few times and it's not what you need when recovering from major surgery at all.

Re make up if it's what you want to do go for it. I dint wear make up but did keep all my piercings in during labour as I feel naked without them, I was quite happy to labour naked but take my piercings out and I feel really vulnerable..... When it comes to birth do whatever makes you feel comfortable. Oh I always made sure my legs were shaved and my toe nails were painted for labour because it was important to me! Couldn't give a shit what midwives etc thought but I felt better having done that.

I went into labour mid afternoon so already had a full face of make up on. I have severe panda eyes in my first photo with DS! I couldn't wait to clean my face and have fresh (hah) faced ones afterwards.

I would rather be barefaced next time I think

When I had DD1 I had showered and washed my hair that morning and put make up on - contractions started just as I was getting ready to go to a friend's. I had her at lunchtime and have to say, look better in the 'after' pics than I do most normal days!!

TallyHoAndToodlePip · 15/12/2016 11:39

I've not been through labour yet but I don't plan to wear any when I do go into labour. I always thought you'd sweat it off and look a bit of a mess, and judging by most PP's stories, I'd say my theory is valid! Au naturel for me I think Smile

Do some posters put make up on as soon as they wake up just in case anyone sees them without it?
After I've washed I put on moisturiser, then cover up with a touch of foundation/powder (takes under a minute). If I want to look a bit more awake I might add eyeliner and mascara (maybe 2 minutes). So little that you probably wouldn't notice I'd put any on. I do this whether I am going to see anyone else or not - just so that when I look in the mirror I do feel a bit more "with it" and refreshed. I also brush my hair into shape and put on fresh clothes regularly, even though other people probably couldn't care less if I went out wearing a dirty tracksuit every day. Is it really very different?

I'm mainly curious because I feel the pressure too - mum is ill and I look like death frankly, let's hope I don't scare her - but I never wear makeup unless it's a dab of concealer for a client meeting. I feel that, for women, the looks issue is getting worse and worse so I just wondered.

The idea that someone might worry how they look in labour did stun me tbh.

MrsKoala · 16/12/2016 10:03

I don't feel any pressure at all. In fact i think it's better now than it used to be - or maybe i'm just older and move in different circles. When i grew up in the 80s the make up was put on with a trowel. My Mum and her friends still wont come downstairs or open the door without full faces on. I have never felt that way. I wear it if i want to. I see loads of women out now without make up on. At school etc. I never saw that years ago - or maybe the make up is just better quality and more subtle.

My mum winces if i am not wearing make up and will say something. My older sister wears loads too. But my generation seem to take it or leave it ime.

I am beyond stunned by this thread.

I just shower, put makeup on- I can do my whole face in less than 5 mins- then dry my hair.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 16/12/2016 10:13

I wasn't allowed to wear makeup or nail varnish as I had a section and was told not to.

MyKidsHaveTakenMySanity · 16/12/2016 10:25

This would have been me had I put make up on for my labours Grin
But I did do it straight after. When I'd had my third baby (easy birth) I showered pretty much immediately, washed and straightened my hair and put a full face on.
