FlowersStarFlowersStar did anyone wear makeup during labour? Well, probably makeup is the last thing on my mind but wanted to know everyone's opinion / experience Xmas Blush

To be honest whatever you do it's unlikely you'll be looking your best by the end Grin

GizmoFrisby · 14/12/2016 12:09

No, was the last thing on my mind. I looked awful but couldn't of cared less. By the time I was mid way through I was sweating,in and out the bath and really didn't care what I looked like.

MakiJ · 14/12/2016 12:42

Thank youuuuuu Grin

The midwife won't care or even notice. I would hope your dp/dh wouldn't care. You can always take makeup with you for the after photos.

DeliciouslyHella · 14/12/2016 13:05

Yes, but only because my induction kicked off a hell of a lot quicker than I could have possibly anticipated. My lovely midwife washed and moisturised my face for me once I'd given birth... I had mascara running down my face from the sweat and tears.

MrsKoala · 14/12/2016 13:06

To those saying the midwives and drs don't care - it's not about them is it? Confused It's about what you look like in the photo taken of you and the baby when it is born. The photo you keep forever and show people and look at often (well i do).

I bought special labour make up for ds1. Not much just waterproof mascara and foundation. And i wore that for both my subsequent sections. i am not a make up every day person, but i also hate photos of me so i wanted to wear some as it would be a picture i would want to look at for a long time after.

ThreeHens · 14/12/2016 13:26

Honestly I think this will be the last thing on your mind. Any make up you have on will probably get wiped off/smeared

PossumInAPearTree · 14/12/2016 13:28

I've no idea who it's about but then I happily go out the house without makeup and many wouldn't so I have no idea. Grin

I go to the gym with no makeup and not only are there many women with makeup but also after they have a shower they're there spending ages putting on makeup, straightening their hair, etc.

I'm not criticising, just pointing out that there do seem to be women who do worry that someone might see them without makeup.

Soubriquet · 14/12/2016 13:28

No!

I don't wear make up anyway but with all the sweating you do, it would just roll off your face

Aki23 · 14/12/2016 13:29

No way! but I did take in some tinted moisturiser for the next day (never wore it). Take in tinted lip balm if you are concerned. But you really wont be when it all kicks off!

Artandco · 14/12/2016 13:30

Yes and no. I did get eyelashes tinted and eyebrows tinted and shaped 2 weeks beforehand and a good facial. So eyes looked good and clear skin. Also nails were painted but they always are.

Aki23 · 14/12/2016 13:30

Being a bit crude - buts its not your face they are interested in!!

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 14/12/2016 13:32

No. Least of my worries tbh.

HouseworkIsASin10 · 14/12/2016 13:34

No. Only wear make up for a night out. Labour is not exactly a night out Hmm

MrsKoala · 14/12/2016 13:53

Possum - it's because of the photos that you and all your family and friends will see and you will show the dc and look at over and over again. I couldn't give a shit whether a dr saw me with no make up on or any of my family particularly, but don't want to look at a photo of me for years and years looking rough. Obviously if i do,i do, but if i can try to look a little better before i am snapped for eternity in a pic then i will.

It's not fleeting is it. you will see the pictures forever. I would have thought that would be the reason not random drs (i don't wear make up every day, i don't wear it to the gym but i do if i think a photo will be taken where i may want to display it)

HouseworkIsASin10 · 14/12/2016 14:13

For the make up wearers, do you every have your photo taken spontaneously or do you have to get your make up on first?

Just wondered because a natural shot after giving birth shouldn't be something you are dreading because you're not 'face ready'.

MrsKoala · 14/12/2016 14:23

I think 'dreading' is the wrong word designed to make make up wearers look vain and disproportionately worried. Would like to look slightly better if possible, is not the same as dreading not having slap on. Also how much make up are we talking? I have rosacea and a very red face, so i like to have some base on to even my skin out and a bit of mascara to make my eyes not disappear. It's hardly wearing 5 different eye shadows and red lipstick.

I hate my photo taken (spontaneously or not and regardless of make up) because i am extremely unphotogenic and always look hideous in them. But in the ones where i have a little base and mascara on then i do look miles better than a blotchy red face with no eyes!

HouseworkIsASin10 · 14/12/2016 14:30

MrsKoala maybe 'dreading' is a wrong word in what I'm trying to say (not very well)

I also hate getting my photo taken, no amount of make up is going to help! I'm just curious about having photo's taken in general. Like fooling around with the kids, selfies etc. Do you have to stop and think about the make up thing?

RedStripeIassie · 14/12/2016 14:31

He'll no, I was sweaty and crying!

YouMeanYouForgotCranberriesToo · 14/12/2016 14:51

For the make up wearers, do you every have your photo taken spontaneously or do you have to get your make up on first?

I'm only make uo free when I'm in bed or if I've had a shower / bath in the evening so no, people don't normally take spontaneous pictures of me without it. I do sometimes take pictures with the dds before putting makeup on though, i just prefer to have it.

Strokethefurrywall · 14/12/2016 17:15

Yep, I had make up on with both my labors.

First I was at work and my waters broke, had hypno/water birth and DS1 arrived 4 hours later. I looked fucking amazing in my first picture with him. Amazingly my make up hadn't melted down my face.

DS2 arrived at 6am after an 8 hour labour which I'd slept through (lovely wonderful epidural) and because I couldn't move in bed, my make up stayed exactly where it should. Woke up, pushed him out, looked fucking amazing again.

I only say this because now, 2 1/2 years after I last gave birth, I look like a hammered bag of shit.

Sparkletastic · 14/12/2016 17:23

Had a full face on for DD2 as she shot out of me in under 30 minutes with no sign of labour beforehand, thus allowing me to pass the time in hospital by applying slap. I look so much better in the pictures with her despite being 3 years older than when I had DD1. Most pleasing.

UserOne · 14/12/2016 18:44

I really did want to, but forgot in the rush. I did do my hair nicely though.

LaContessaDiPlump · 14/12/2016 19:18

I deliberately went and got my eyelashes dyed a week before I was scheduled to have DC1, so that I would look less of a wreck good in the new baby photos Grin sadly I was not that organised second time round!!

HandbagCrab · 14/12/2016 19:26

No but there are no photos of me anyway as no one thought to take any and me and dh were too tired to realise until later.

For the next it says you can't wear make up for a planned cs so I won't be. I'm insisting on photos this time, I'm not just a vessel to produce a child, whether I look like shit or not :)
