I am 7 weeks and 3 days pregnant and really struggling with nausea. I don't fancy any food at all but I know I have to eat as otherwise I feel faint and shaky. Today I went to the gym at lunch time and then when I came out I must have walked into about 5 food outlets and walked straight back out again as I couldn't face any of the smells let alone eating the food, this was followed by me aimlessly walking around panicking and getting teary which is just ridiculous!! Anyone else have similar issues? Really hoping this gets easier soon... we have wanted this for so long but now its here feel like I am worrying all the time and the nausea is just making everything so hard!

Just eat whatever you can manage and worry about eating healthily later. Also try eating little and often. I found once I got hungry I was bound to vomit.

It's worth checking when you're taking multi vitamins too. I was taking them when I woke up so I remembered but this made me vomit because you need food first.

I lived on pink nesqik and sliced tomatoes for my first pregnancy. It was all i could face.

Satsumas for the second.

Literally everything made me puke for the whole 9 months for the third. Even the smell of water when i showered. I sipped soda water and lost weight and was occasionally admitted to hospital. Grim. I feel your pain OP.

Another lover of salt and vinegar crisps here!
I also used to have a slim fast if I really couldn't face food. It only took a few gulps and at least had some nutrients in.

Bagina · 03/12/2016 16:12

Just stick to chip shops.

SofiaAmes · 03/12/2016 16:13

I also found that eating something and then giving in to the nausea and vomiting gave me enough relief that I could then eat a full meal and keep it down. I had terrible "morning" sickness all day for most of both my pregnancies. It got pretty ridiculous that I had to plan on enough food for two sittings for every meal: one for vomiting up and one for keeping down. I had to stop going out for meals because it was too expensive. I did manage to gain 45 pounds each pregnancy.

Foods that helped were American Saltines and Digestives. Lots of ice water. And weirdly tangerines which I never normally ate.

coxsorangepippin · 03/12/2016 16:19

Acidic stuff is often good, and for me also salt/cheese. Adding lots of lemon juice to (very plain) food helped and on one 'can't stand anything in any of these eleventy food outlets' day I found a smoked salmon sandwich with very lemony cream cheese did the trick!

littletike · 03/12/2016 16:23

Some women on the antenatal thread I was on swore that a multivitamin especially the pregnancy ones made them feel sick but taking the vitamins as separate tablets didn't.

Babybeesmama · 04/12/2016 19:20

Oh my god can so relate to this post! I'm 8 weeks & so nauseous (I didn't feel this bad with other 2 pregnancies). I am managing to eat (all bad stuff Blush)... just did the most indulgent shop in co-op... I bought smoothies, mango, mushy peas & a posh steak pie (it's just what I fancy tonight!).

I seem to remember it passes after 12 weeks but I really miss enjoying certain foods.. I normally love chilli & we eat it at least x2 a week & I can't bear it at moment!

Hope u feel better soon!

Wolfiefan · 04/12/2016 19:23

Fizzy Haribo. I know. I know. But some mornings it was all I could bloody stomach.
Ginger can help. Eat before you get up. Dry biscuits are good.
Smells set me off so I wouldn't manage food outlets. Take a cereal bar for emergencies?
Oh and lollies. I ate a lot of lollies!

reindeerbitesback · 04/12/2016 20:07

Wow, OP, I'm also 7 weeks pregnant and had exactly the same experience today. I went to a posh food hall to pick up some bits for lunch (had the STBpils over) and couldn't even enter the store - I had to send my 12 year old in (she came out with an odd eclectic mix of items but I was thankful she didn't question me).

All I can stomach at the moment are breaksticks, cream crackers, jelly beans, cucumber and I'm taking the pregnancy supplements but I'm also a bit concerned about not getting enough nutrients! This didn't happen with any of my previous pregnancies so I'm on completely new ground and have no advice for you!

Congratulations by the way!

With dd1 I was on holiday in France at about 8 weeks pregnant. I wept in a cafe as it was all just too much. We walked all the way home with me weeping. People must have thought I was mad. Dh went off the supermarket as I couldn't decide what I wanted. While he was away I decided I wanted chicken kiev and her again I wept as I had no way of telling him.

Reader, he came back with chicken kiev ingredients. Not a thing he had ever made before or that I had been terribly interested in.

Tonight he went out to buy me baguette and salami which I am now eating with slices of gherkin and pringles. I am very pleased with myself

notagiraffe · 04/12/2016 20:21

Yes, just carry some really plain food around with you and eat it often. Breadsticks, buttered bread rolls, plain crackers, plain biscuits etc. I felt exactly the same. Couldn't bear the smell of coffee and meat everywhere.
Can you take a multivitamin designed for pregnancy?
Also, I found those acupressure wristbands helped a bit.

10Betty10 · 05/12/2016 17:55

Lemonade is quite possibly the best thing in the world. I'm 8 weeks and have been as sick as a dog for weeks, until I discovered that full sugar R Whites lemonade cuts through nausea and lets you eat! Also, plain hula hoops in handbag at all times. And green apples sliced up.

WatchingFromTheWings · 05/12/2016 17:59

I struggled with DC3. I survived on ginger biscuits, bananas and crisps. I could eat the occasional Big Mac too. Anything else didn't stay down for long.

Hollyhop17 · 05/12/2016 18:06

I am also 8 week, first pregnancy and struggling massively with nausea. It has made me so tearful today. I will try some salt and vinegar crisps as that seems to be a common theme. Please someone tell me this doesnt last forever. Not sure I can cope with another 4/5 weeks Sad

Hulababy · 05/12/2016 18:09

I found that I could manage some dry lemon flavoured biscuits (they were a godsend on holiday all-inc at 9/10 weeks, all I managed for a fortnight pretty much!) I also managed crisps and bread. At some points in the day I could manage a bit of fruit such as an orange.

For me it got a lot better from about 16-20 weeks onwards.

10Betty10 · 05/12/2016 18:30

Hollyhop- seriously give lemonade a go- I'm in your shoes too and it's worked wonders

Hollyhop17 · 05/12/2016 19:22

Thanks 10Betty10, my husband (I am sure there is a shorthand to describe him but as a newbie I have no idea what it is!) brought me some home and it has made me feel better enough to have a small dinner. Thank you!

haveacupoftea · 05/12/2016 19:58

Honestly it does get better. I am about to eat a bowl of ice cream with lemon curd Grin

10Betty10 · 05/12/2016 20:52

No problem hollyhop- it was a revelation when I tried it too haha (although I am yet to eat more than half a portion of any form of dinner yet- still, small victories!)

ohfourfoxache · 05/12/2016 21:11

I literally had nausea and sickness for 38 weeks (ds arrived at 40 weeks exactly!)

Dry crackers were tolerable. And halloumi with roasted tomatoes and peppers with pitta bread somehow stayed down.

I'm now 8 weeks and it's unbearable again. GP has prescribed metaclopramide which takes the edge off but I'd forgotten how utterly fucking miserable it is Sad

I "hate" ladies who bloom in pregnancy

ohfourfoxache · 05/12/2016 21:12

Oh, any preggy pops can help too - again, they just took the edge off a bit

abeandhalo · 05/12/2016 21:18

It honestly does get better for most of us, I was at the end of my tether with the nausea I would feel like I could be sick from the moment I got up to the time I went to bed for months, but bang on 12 weeks it went away.

I bought those extortionately expensive smoothie cartons so that at least I was getting some vitamins when I could stomach it. Other than that it was toast, cheese sandwiches, crisps and biscuits.

ThinkPinkStink · 05/12/2016 22:03

Oh god, I'd almost wiped those first few weeks from my memory. It was so vile!

I remember walking across the park and being overwhelmed by the smell from the local fried chicken shop (which was over 200m away) all the while trying to hide my early pregnancy from my colleagues.

High emotions, nausea and heightened sense of smell really do conspire against pregnant women!

I felt better at 13 weeks, just as I thought I'd never feel well again the nausea cleared and I felt fine for the rest of my pregnancy. There was the odd day that I'd still feel a bit weepy or pukey, I put that down to hormone surges and the good days far outweighed the bad!

I hope you feel much better very soon!!
