I'm 22 weeks pregnant. Have just done the supermarket shop and the shelves were piled high with treats like Baileys, mulled wine, Prosecco and nibbly things involving brie.
It's left me feeling a bit grumpy about missing all my delicious favourites over Christmas.
I might have a small glass of fizz or cup of mulled wine and I've been dropping hints about Hotel Chocolat to DH.
Just wondered if anyone else has some nice pregnancy-friendly Christmas treats planned?

1/2 a glass is honestly fine. It's occasional and minimal.

I'll be overdue and very fed up if i'm still pregnant on Christmas day - I'm definitley having a small glass of wine!

beepbeeprichie · 04/12/2016 20:44

I will have one small glass of fizz.. But I will miss my homemade chicken liver pate. And NYE lobster Thermidor. Some people here giving up mince pies because of the alcohol content?!? OMG I can't go that far!!!! I've already eaten a full family size Christmas pudding this weekend with some brandy cream. Oops

fourcorneredcircle · 04/12/2016 20:52

Why can't you hav lobster Thermidor?! Surely it's cooked shellfish? That's allowed isn't it???

MarjorySunshineDust · 04/12/2016 21:04

I'm definitely not planning on avoiding anything like brandy butter/mince pies! Will miss all the soft cheese but plan to console myself with Stilton and baked Camembert. Might have a small glass of prosecco if I fancy it but I haven't really so far.

Tonight I made mulled wine with no-alcohol red wine with a bit of sugar, cloves, all spice, cinnamon sticks and ginger. Was pretty nice. You wouldn't really have known the difference.

PeachBellini123 · 05/12/2016 06:28

Cooked shellfish is fine.

Pate I will miss a lot, I think I will be substituting with copious quantities of sausage rolls!

Booze I will miss, particularly staying with DHs family who tend to spend the whole Christmas period making extravagant cocktails.

Although non-alcoholic wine is grim I have had some vaguely passable non-alcoholic fizz in the past, and I might be experimenting with using it as the base for some non-alcoholic or low-alcohol cocktails.

I'll be treating myself to a small amount of red wine - a few sips here and there with Christmas dinner or a plate of Stilton.

INeedNewShoes · 05/12/2016 07:35

Fields - can I ask what non-alcoholic red wine you used?

BertieBotts · 05/12/2016 07:42

Mulled wine can be lethal!!

Check the German shops, they might have what the Germans call "Kinderpunsch" which is basically an alcohol-free version of mulled wine. Or you can stick mulled wine spices into apple juice and heat for a nice cider-y taste.

Fieldsandgrasses · 05/12/2016 08:00

Just one from Sainsbury's. It was pretty nice. (Better mulled than just 'normal' red wine).

INeedNewShoes · 05/12/2016 08:01

Thanks Smile Fields - I'll give it a go.

Ill be 11 weeks at Christmas with my first. I am going to miss alcohol and cheese. Especially bucks fizz with breakfast. I will be in New York (booked before we knew) so hoping that will distract me! It is going to be challenging not drinking around family when we get back as we arent telling until our 12 week scan...
