I'm 22 weeks pregnant. Have just done the supermarket shop and the shelves were piled high with treats like Baileys, mulled wine, Prosecco and nibbly things involving brie.
It's left me feeling a bit grumpy about missing all my delicious favourites over Christmas.
I might have a small glass of fizz or cup of mulled wine and I've been dropping hints about Hotel Chocolat to DH.
Just wondered if anyone else has some nice pregnancy-friendly Christmas treats planned?

Ahhhh well. Baked Camembert it is then (Brie is a poor substitude anyway!) Xmas Grin

MrsH87 · 23/11/2016 16:43

I'll miss Christmas drinking, pâté, rare beef and smoked salmon!! Bottle Green do an amazing spiced winter fruit cordial, which is delicious warm or with sparkling water. Ginger beer with lime and a sprinkle of bitters is a v nice (basically alcohol free) cocktail. I'll be over 36 weeks by Xmas and looking forward to a glass of champers or red. Other than that I'll be eating all the chocolate oranges.

My salmon pate recipe

Salmon flakes, cream cheese, dill and lemon juice. All in blender and in fridge. I'm not sure why that would contain listeria compared to other non pate fish dishes?

daisymunchero · 23/11/2016 17:02

Complete place marking here for ideas of nice things to indulge in !! I'll miss the wine the most !!!Wine

TimeForCakeAgain · 23/11/2016 17:11

Art I'm pretty sure if it's homemade like that it's fine, however in shop bought pate the bacteria can multiply over time. I had a similar mackerel pate last year when pregnant.

MrsH

Smoked salmon isn't off the list! Go ahead... have another blini!

Artandco nope... I can't see anything wrong with that recipe either, if the salmon is cooked or smoked and the pâté freshly made then surely it's ok to eat it and just follow the usual rules re: not eating long-left overs or something you aren't 100% sure about?

Sipperskipper · 23/11/2016 17:18

I will miss guzzling anowballs for 12 hours a day for the whole of december. I still plan on having the odd one or two....but I like them so strong! Will still eat homemade mince pies - the alcohol amount is so small.

Just....snowballs....

Mulled cider. I'll be trying a non-alcoholic version.

I'm very relaxed about food so nothing's off the menu for me really. I wouldn't eat lots of pate or mouldy cheese but I'm willing to take the (small) risk and have a bit of each.

SnugglySnerd · 23/11/2016 17:34

Am I right in thinking stilton is ok now?

Doesn't smoked salmon count as salmon ie oily fish? So don't we need to limit to two portions a week? (Although I can eat a lot of smoked salmon in one sitting!).

HandbagCrab · 23/11/2016 17:35

I've got some m&s alcohol free mulled punch to try. Possibly having baby just before xmas so might be able to have a drink! If not, I'll be eating lots of chocolate.

EsmesBees · 23/11/2016 17:38

I will miss mulled wine and port. All the substitutions I've tried are overly sweet. And the glass of champers with my breakfast. And a small whisky to toast in the new year. So booze, in summary.

MrsH87 · 23/11/2016 17:40

Circle - whaaaaat! And I have been avoiding smoked salmon for 7 months?! Shock

DarkLikeVader · 23/11/2016 17:51

I miss pate too, with DD I came out of hospital to pate for lunch and bloody steak and a bottle of wine for dinner, as arranged by DH, I'm hoping for the same this time round!

Gingernut81 · 23/11/2016 18:02

DH made me 'non-alcoholic' g&ts when I was pregnant. Tonic, water, ice & then gin wiped around the rim of the glass - it does curb the need for proper alcohol!

Ocado also do an ok low alcohol cider & erdinger low alcohol beer is lovely.

SnugglySnerd · 23/11/2016 18:15

DH did something similar for me, Dark, when I came out of hospital he arranged a lovely cheese board and a selection of nice beers!

I used to start drinking on 1st december and not finish until the 1st january Blush I will miss my mulled wine and prosecco for sure Sad

GreyBird84 · 23/11/2016 19:55

A glass of rose & Brie.

Will be going to sainsburys to look for the alcohol free stuff!

SnugglySnerd · 23/11/2016 20:14

I think I might get some of the Sainsbury's alcohol free fizz this week to test. Just to make sure it's suitable for Christmas of course!

I'll miss cheeseboards and pate the most 😢

MissMooMoo · 24/11/2016 11:52

I am missing pate already.
I have told DH that after I give birth I would like a 3 course meal waiting at home
Starter: pate with bread
Main: rare steak with blue cheese sauce
Pudding : cheeseboard

Artandco · 24/11/2016 12:43

Miss - you can have a blue cheese sauce now. It's cooked so fine

Artandco · 24/11/2016 12:44

ALSo hard blue cheese like Stilton is safe to eat regardless

SnugglySnerd · 24/11/2016 12:54

I thought I'd heard that about stilton. I love stilton. Hooray!!
