TTc and I'm dreading morning sickness second time around. Managed to just about avoid it first time because I could work from home. This time I'll be doing the school run! All my friends tell me its worse second time around. Is this the case or is it impossible to generalise?

It was worse for me but perhaps because I didn't allow myself to scoff a lot of ginger biscuits in front of DS while he was having his healthy breakfast (15 months at the time).

mosschops30 · 08/02/2007 13:01

I didnt have any first or second time so you may get away with it

poppiesinaline · 08/02/2007 13:01

wasn't worse the 2nd time for me

but worse the 3rd time

maybe it depends on what you are having. I was sick with the boys but not so much with my girl

lulumama · 08/02/2007 13:03

impossible to generalise !

mine was better second time, but still a fair bit of throwing up

threw up in the front garden in front of DS, who was in reception at the time..apparently he told his teacher, mummy keeps being sick in the morning and we just don;t know what is the matter with her ! so harder to keep secret second time too !!

you can use sea bands, and have ginger biscuits or dry crackers to see if that helps, i would not listen so much to the horror stories and just go with the flow

loads of people said that sickness is worse with a girl , but i had the opposite....just go with the flow...!

IntergalacticWalrus · 08/02/2007 13:04

I did, but I know plenty who didn't.

Every pregnancy is different

redtent · 08/02/2007 13:06

Second time was easier for me han the first- less sickness etc...

I think being pregnant overall was tougher- mainly because I was caring for ds 1 and not getting naps etc that I had managed in my first pregnancy.

Third pregnancy- ak ak ak awful awful... dunno about the b/g thing maybe we will see in a few months time

Kaz33 · 08/02/2007 13:08

Threw up in neither -

Bubbaloo · 08/02/2007 13:11

Never had any,both times.

Countingthegreyhairs · 08/02/2007 13:15

OK - thanks - maybe I'm dreading it for no reason!! I guess I'm just a bit of a coward - hate throwing up more than anything in the world - good to know that it's not inevitable anyway!

Another one with no sickness either time

LieselVentouse · 08/02/2007 15:31

Yep, and still throwing (17wks)

compo · 08/02/2007 15:32

My 2nd pregnancy was much once than my first - had a ds first and then a dd and people say girls make you sicker!

PeachyClair · 08/02/2007 15:39

There's no pattern for this. Yes there is a link between tiredness and nausea (earlyt o bed?) but afaik that's about it. there seem to be so many factors involved tbh that nobody can predict. Which for you is a good thing, no?

PeachyClair · 08/02/2007 15:40

girls don't make you sicker LOL! Seriously. Used to volunteer on the blooming awful support and info lines- there was no correlation in any way!. I ahd boys, HG with first, controlled hg with 2nd, no meds needed for third.

motherinferior · 08/02/2007 15:41

I threw up much less second time round. Same sex baby (female). And - this may be equally consoling - put on less weight and lost it much more quickly. AND I had a better birth.

(My SPD was vile, though. And when I say 'better' birth, everything is relative.)

Countingthegreyhairs · 09/02/2007 13:29

Thanks everyone - although sorry you are suffering LieselVentouse - hope you feel better soon. Yep, reckon I'll just have to go with the flow! Ta again.

Much worse the second time round, really sick for 14 weeks. DS1 and pregnant with ds2 and both pregnancies have been very different. I was not sick at all first time round but had lots of headaches/migraines. I wouldn't worry until it happens though, might turn out you are absolutely fine.

Hassled · 09/02/2007 13:49

I've got progressively worse - sailed through first pregancy, was as sick as a dog for ages by the time I reached No 4 - and I thought that was the standard, i.e. the more pregnancies you have the worse it gets?

morning sickness about the same at the beginning of both pregnancies... rarely vomitted but felt very nauseous.

however the end of the pregnancies have been different matter. am 38 wks pg with 2nd and have been sick almost every day for past week or so. just in the morning. makes me never want to be pregnant again, and also desperate to 'embrace' labour pains because it will be the beginning of the end of this ordeal!

Porpoise · 09/02/2007 14:09

Yes, yes yes! And even more in my third.
My final spew was, in fact, about 15 seconds before ds3 popped out.
Sorry you're feeling ropey. LV.

BabyMadwithBump · 09/02/2007 15:41

Been PG now 4 times!
1st PG 3/5 sickness
2nd PG 2/5 sickness
3rd PG 4/5 sickness (hospital 4times with MS)
4th PG (this LO) 4/5) so dam ill, but getting over it now! I THINK

Miaou · 09/02/2007 15:42

It does vary but for me it has been worse each time, starting sooner and lasting longer (am pg with my fourth and thought it was getting better, but have been sick every day this week - now 17 weeks!)

Sorry!

marchbunny · 09/02/2007 16:26

Certainly has for me! I am on number 3, 18 weeks and still here!

Countingthegreyhairs · 12/02/2007 11:02

Oh - thanks for posting - hope those of you who are feeling ill find some relief soon ... The last four or so posters have confirmed what three of my friends say; that their morning sickness got worse the more pregnancies they had. They put it down to being increasingly tired and unable to look after themselves as much. As I feel permanently knackered looking after just one child ... I don't think my prospects are good ... but here's hoping!!!
