Contractions started 30 mins after sweep - is this normal?

Hi all

I'm 41+1 with DS2 (DS 1 was an elective section so have never experienced labour).

Had a sweep at 40+1 - no effect as cervix closed.

Had another sweep today from the consultant - cervix was 1cm dilated and soft.

Bled a fair bit post sweep and lost plug. 30 mins after started getting contractions. They're every 7 mins, painful, but I can breathe through them.

Just wondering if this is 'it' or whether the sweep has just stirred things up. Have had various contractions over the week and they have all died off after a while.

My childcare (PIL) live an hour away and I don't know when to call them!!

Exciting. Good luck

FATEdestiny · 25/08/2016 18:39

I had really long latent stage labours like this with all 4 of my children. Try to rest as much as possible.

emmabrown123 · 25/08/2016 22:36

Home again now. Contractions slowed again to every 10 minutes. Gave me the option of staying overnight but felt I'd rest better at home. Feel exhausted - physically and mentally but trying to tell myself it just wasn't the right time. Fingers crossed for some sleep!! This labour business is hard!!

Oh no!! Your baby really is too comfortable!! Eat a hot curry and make the little one in more of a hurry Grin

PotOfYoghurt · 26/08/2016 00:39

Oh god how frustrating for you. Maybe your womb is just really hospitable?

emmabrown123 · 26/08/2016 02:04

Currently sat in the bath in tears. Contractions are still 8 mins apart but painful. I'm just so tired I can't think straight, let alone deal with the pain.

Do you think I could request my induction to be moved forward to today?. It's meant to be Saturday, and I know they want me to do it as naturally as possible but I just can't see it happening. It's not the pain, it's the exhaustion of no let up from it. If I had an idea of when it might end I feel I could cope better.

Sorry for the rant, I'm horribly emotional. My mum and sister both had super quick labours, can't help but think what the hell is wrong with me!!!!

Hang in there, it's so horrible being in pain and exhausted. Hope you manage to get some rest before it starts getting really serious, if you're feeling really distressed ring up the ward and let them know what's happening. You being stressed won't help you or baby! All the bestFlowers

Coldhandscoldheart · 26/08/2016 02:17

You poor old thing. I would think there would be no harm at all in asking, at least to talk through your options.
You have all my sympathy, I remember being outraged they expected me to labour when I was so tired (and they wouldn't let me eat!), and I kept just lying down & trying to go to sleep!
Is your dh offering what help he can with hot/cold packs, coaching, back rubbing?
Have you lollies or something you can have for a bit of a lift?
There are people up all night here who will be about.
Good luck.

Coldhandscoldheart · 26/08/2016 02:19

It's less than four hours til dawn now, when things will look better. Two and three in the morning is always the absolute pits, whatever you're doing.x

emmabrown123 · 26/08/2016 02:33

Thanks ladies. Have left DH to sleep as I want him to be in a decent state for when labour finally progresses.

Have promised myself after the next contraction I'll go and make myself some tea and toastBrew. Got to stay focused!!

You have no idea how much you're all helping. Thank you xFlowers

Bother. I lost my reply.
Would a funny thread help for a bit?

These are awful but made me laugh immoderately.

PotOfYoghurt · 26/08/2016 07:45

Hope you managed to get some sleep op

LynseyH · 26/08/2016 09:00

Hope your doing ok!!

FATEdestiny · 26/08/2016 09:40

Try to rest. Even if you can't sleep, lying down in dark, quiet room with your eyes closed will help you rest and relax.

LynseyH · 26/08/2016 09:52

It's very quiet on here so either your finally getting some rest or labour is speeding up?
I had a thought earlier (although maybe too late for you depending on what's happening!)
I was admitted to hospital with my eldest around 2am (i think) and things didn't seem to be moving very fast but I was shattered. They gave me pethidine for the pain which also helped me relax and doze. I wonder if they gave you the same you'd be able to rest a bit? I wasn't in labour anywhere near as long as you so can only imagine how tired you are x

emmabrown123 · 26/08/2016 10:52

Hey all. Thanks for the continued support. Spent the night in labour suite - contracting every 5 mins all night. Have only got to 3cm though.

Contractions have now tailed off again. They won't bring my induction forward a day, but also won't let me go home as there were a couple of decelerations in baby's heartbeat on the monitor so now sat on a ward.

Haven't had any food or pain relief since 5 this morning. But my new midwife on the ward seems lovely so fingers crossed she'll sort me out a bit!

Gosh Emma you poor thing! FlowersCakeBrew

I hope after all this when baby is born it's nice and quick for you with little fuss

PotOfYoghurt · 26/08/2016 12:03

You poor thing, it's not been an easy ride has it?!

LynseyH · 26/08/2016 14:20

I hope by now you've eaten, been given pain relief and had baby 😊 if not I think they are being very mean making you hang on x

Melmam · 26/08/2016 19:04

How's it going op I hope you have finally had your baby and having some well deserved rest Flowers

emmabrown123 · 26/08/2016 21:43

Very well. Epidural working a bit better but still needing gas and air, baby's heart rate now behaving and fully dilated. Just giving the baby an hour to wiggle down then it's pushing time!!

Afreshstartplease · 26/08/2016 21:54
