With DC1 their bedroom was decorated and cot assembled 4 months before I was due...this time I am 34 weeks and new baby's room is still filled with junk various household items.

Last time my (specially purchased) hospital bag was packed by 28 weeks...this time I will probably be stuffing items into a carrier bag the night before my c section.

When I finished work last time I had a lovely few weeks of buying lots of lovely baby bits then sitting in coffee shops watching the world go by...this time I will be running around after a toddler and trying to fit in various exciting errands like getting the car serviced and dentist appointments.

Anyone else completely unprepared for the arrival of DC2?

Fairly sure this will be me. I'm due start of February and intend to leave buying as much as possible to the post Christmas sales. It's going to be a busy January!

We've had a spurt of doing things, sorted a buggy board, changing bag and bought a holdall for hospital. DH sorted some 0-3 stuff out - which will now sit in the corner of our room for ages I should imagine Grin

I had my 36 wk appt and birth chat with MW the other day. She asked if I'd packed my bag. I replied "well, I've got a bag...and it will come to hospital with me..." Nothing in it yet. She chuckled and said typical second baby!

I'm 35 weeks today with first bubs Smile We've bought all the essentials (i hope!) ie travel system, sterilizer, bouncer, nappies, a few clothes etc We've been given a cot & moses basket.
BUT bubs room looks like a bombsite with everything still in boxes, hubby's work stuff, bin bags full of crap from when we moved in in April. Not worried as the plan is that bubs will sleep in our room for the first few month anyway!
Hospital bag has been in car boot for about a month cos we had a scare. Keep adding things to it and have no idea what's in there anymore! Will probably discover a bike pump, some dish cloths and a potato masher in there when we come to need it at the hospital. LOL Grin

I'm now on the other side, ds is 4 days old. His clothes are everywhere, and this morning was dressed in a mish mash of clothes. Ds1 toys are everywhere, so I am tiptoeing through Lego when walking through the living room. Ds2 nursery still isn't sorted, as I figure I have 6 months to sort it.
With ds1, I was obsessed with making sure everything was sorted and kept tidy. With ds2, I'm more relaxed, and just enjoying the snuggles.

weedles congratulations! Lovely to hear that you're relaxed about it all, gives me hope! I'm not too worried the nursery isn't done for the same reason that I've got at least six months!

I had a huge sort out today as I woke up feeling really like I needed to tidy tidy tidy. I'm 38 weeks now so maybe it's a sign of imminent labour?! I tidied all of dds toys and clothes and made space in a drawer for the new baby's stuff and sorted everything into size order.

Unfortunately after doing that I was so exhausted I couldn't move to do anything else. So now all the baby blankets are in the washing basket and the rest of the house is a complete mess as I seemed to just focus on one small area. Argh! Oh and still no hospital bag completely packed (still not sure what I've actually put in it just been throwing things in when I think of them)

Congratulations Weedles! Nice your feeling relaxed despite not being highly organised.

I'm 36 weeks with DC2 and just starting to sort through the mountain of clothes, muslins, blankets etc from last time. I actually think it's easier when your starting from scratch than wading through the previous stuff.

Getting the buggy cleaned tomorrow and have washed the car seat cover so at least we can bring her home.

We currently have no bathroom until next week as we're replacing with a new one, plus we have guests staying too. There's literally crap everywhere Grin

I've found my people

I'm 37 weeks and have only recently (last few days) got baby stuff out and washed, car seat out, Moses basket out, pram sorted etc. Have a few random items shoved in a change bag for my 'hospital bag' nothing for me mind.

Last time everything was ready at ooh 32ish weeks, I re-washed clothes, I made list after list of what I needed for the nursery, for baby, for hospital bag etc.

So unprepared!

Well today I bought some bottles, and some Lanisoh boob cream. Felt very proud of myself.

Forgot the breast milk freezing bags but hey ho.

Small steps! 35 weeks so probably nothing happening for another month yet. Hmm

I'm undecided whether to get a new mattress for the Moses basket. It was only used for about 4 months! Seems like a bit of a waste of money?

Annarose from my understanding you are supposed to get new mattresses for new babies I have ordered one from Amazon with two sheets for about £10 I think maybe a bit more. Not too expensive anyway. Our old one did look a bit tatty from being up in the loft anyway!

Annarose for all the cost of a Moses basket mattress I would buy a new one.
I never even stored my crib mattress with the logic of I'd hate something to go wrong and say "what if I'd bought a new one" however I am planning to reuse my sprung cot mattress. It was really only used for 8/9 months and its sprung rather than just a lump of foam that dents.

Bags packed. Phew.
DH has been told (probably not listened) to where spare stuff is in case, like last time, I end up having to stay in longer than a day.

I even did a birth plan, well bullet point/ tick list saying yes to managed third stage, vit k injection and skin to skin, and consent to emcs in event needed.

I now have a list of little jobs to sort around the house I will slowly work my through whilst watching all of cold feet series 1-5 on ITV player thingy.
