Tips for stopping queasiness (I'm not vomiting)

I'm in the first month of pregnancy and not yet being sick (thank goodness) but feeling queasy for most of the day, to the point it's difficult to concentrate at work. Can anyone recommend anything that helps? I have heard of Quasypops, do they help? And do the travel bands really work? Anything else I could try? Thanks in advance...

Have you tried eating mints, gingerbread or something lemon flavoured?

thecatsarecrazy · 01/07/2016 13:28

I'm 8 weeks and being sick now. My midwife said to try the travel bands, she said she can't say from personal experience but lady's have told her they make such a difference. I've just had a rhubarb and custard boiled sweet that was very pleasant and has helped.

unintendedcatlady · 01/07/2016 13:29

I ate dry crackers. Sounds awful but helped lots. Mints, ginger. And not much else I'm afraid in my case :( awful!

Diddlydokey · 01/07/2016 13:33

I felt better after I was sick... for a while anyway

PeaceNotPieces · 01/07/2016 13:43

Sweet things helped me.

Especially chewits / fruitella / barley sugar. And Vimto to drink....and toast.

I was v bad with my second and even lost weight at the beginning so I know the sugar wasn't healthy but it wasn't for long.

Keep hydrated too

Hensintheskirting · 01/07/2016 13:46

I drank gallons of liptons lemon iced tea. Full of sugar and really helped with the queasy feeling.

Sparrowlegs248 · 01/07/2016 14:12

Eating is the only thing that helps me but I fear piling weight on. Has to be savoury, and often junk. I've just bought travel bands but can't wear them at work. Will try them later.

TipBoov · 01/07/2016 14:15

Sickness bands really helped me, also salt and vinegar crisps and love heart sweets!

NettleFarseer · 01/07/2016 14:19

Toast and Salt and Vinegar crisps.

The only things I could stomach

PeaceNotPieces · 01/07/2016 14:41

And fizzy water too!

Hoppinggreen · 01/07/2016 14:43

Ginger tea. I couldn't always drink it I felt so sick but even breathing in the steam from it seemed to help

Claraoswald36 · 01/07/2016 14:45

Agree re ginger tea but it's gas in your tummy that causes it - anything fizzy will help but aspartame will settle your stomach so Diet Coke or other diet pop is great

The travel bands didn't help me, but it's different for everyone.

I survived on bagels and Jacob's crackers. Not healthy but I couldn't stomach anything else.

Macauley · 01/07/2016 21:15

Fizzy water is the only thing helping me at the moment.

Fluffy24 · 01/07/2016 21:22

Nothing really banished it but finely chopped a lump of stem ginger in syrup and put it in a mug of boiling water to make a tea - something helpful about the ginger and sugar combo!

Stylingwax · 01/07/2016 21:24

Travel bands worked for me. I wore them from about weeks 8 to 20....
Was constantly nauseous but only ever threw up twice.

JennyOnAPlate · 01/07/2016 22:13

The only time I didn't feel sick was when I was eating. I got through a lot of boiled sweets!

bumblebee86 · 01/07/2016 22:16

I felt sick all day since about week 5 to week 11/12 and now starting to feel a bit better.
I found making sure I ate regularly and got lots of sleep helped, I felt worse if I went a long time without eating or was really tired.
I also found sucking polos helped a little.

gg321 · 01/07/2016 23:15

I feel for you! I'm nearly 12 weeks now so it's easing of thank the Lord, I have felt sick almost all day everyday since 6weeks, but it usually does ease! I had the bands which helped a bit, ice lollies help and just constant snacking an nuts and things, ice cold drinks helped and I know it's bad but fizzy drinks helped too. It's almost worse when you are not sick as there is no relief, just eat little and often rather than big meals and SLEEP when ever you can it's so much worse when you are tired I think that is the biggest issue. But hang in there it should ease into the second trimester. And remember it's a good sign of a healthy baby if you are feeling sick x

I would love to sleep. Ds was up at 4 am. Yawn.

Heatherbell1978 · 03/07/2016 07:04

I'm 5 weeks and it's just kicking in.....with my last pregnancy crystallised ginger worked a treat. I'd just suck on it as soon as the nausea started. Just stocked up again!

bumbleclat · 03/07/2016 09:24

My nausea got increasingly worse from 6-13 weeks, I left it too long and shouldn't have but went to the drs and they gave me promethazine, it has really helped me get on with my life

ClaretAndBlue30 · 03/07/2016 09:31

Travel bands worked for me, and it was trial and error as to what else worked - lemon flavoured drinks, carbs (think beige food!), dry crackers, mints....feeling nauseous is truely horrid - you have my sympathy. Hopefully it'll pass - mine went like a switch at 13 weeks.

LadyFuchsiaGroan · 03/07/2016 09:33

Ginger biscuits helped me a lot. I wouldn't leave the house without a packet if ginger nuts in my bag.
