Over the bump trousers with a stretchy jersey panel - are they any good?

Last pregnancy I had some really lovely trousers that were on the bump, but once I got to about 8 months they just constantly fell down! Under the bump ones are no good as they just fall down whaever stage I'm at [hmm[. I saw some ones with a jersey panel in in the Vertbaudet catalogue, but I'm really reluctant to shell out for yet another pair of trousers that will just fall down!

IME all pregnancy trousers fall down. Sorry

KentuckyFreudChicken · 13/01/2007 20:21

I had a couple of pairs from H&M and they were worn throughout! Only trousers that were comfy at 10 days overdue (grrrrrrrr).

FrayedKnot · 13/01/2007 20:33

I had some jeans type ones with a stretchy panel and they were super comfy.

pucca · 13/01/2007 20:36

I got some from asda when pg with my dd in 2003 they were fab, stretchy with a cottony panel to go over bump was gutted when they finally fell apart after trying to resusitate them while pg with ds (last year) i had worn them so much they pretty much washed away

Ceebee74 · 13/01/2007 20:36

Have to add that I only bought under the bump trousers and they were a pain - I so wish I had bought some with stretchy panels (by the time I realised, it wasn't worth buying them).

CanStarveWillStarve · 13/01/2007 20:36

I had some with a big stretchy panel from Mothercare when I was pregnant. They stayed up no problem.

Of course all of their trousers were way way too long, but that's another problem .

Ooh, I've been looking for over the bump trousers and couldn't find them, I'm thoroughly sick of clutching my waistband all the time. Will try Vertbaudet - thanks!

auntymandy · 13/01/2007 20:40

i got 2 pairs off ebay!
Dont like jersey panels much but like over the bump!
Dorothy perkins?

Miaou · 13/01/2007 20:41

Thanks for the responses

I can't buy maternity wear within 100 miles of my home (!) - so it will have to be mail order/ebay/on here. Thanks for the advice though!

they are fab! I had some jeans from Next with a big stretchy over-the-bump panel which fitted perfectly. I lived in them for the last couple of months of my pregnancy - right up until 14 days overdue!

buktus · 13/01/2007 20:52

i have some 14 and 16 jeans i can emial you pics if you are interested

fizzbuzz · 13/01/2007 20:58

I has some from Vertbaudet, with over the bump panels. They were really comfy, and stayed up as well

Miaou · 13/01/2007 21:03

Aw thanks buktus - but I am a size 10 so I think they will be too big for me (very short too!!)

OP posts:
buktus · 13/01/2007 21:14

, oh thats a shame you could have them for nothing but they would have swamped you being a size 10

Miaou · 13/01/2007 21:21

Oh that's so kind of you!

if you add this code 0903 when you order at verbaudet you'll get 10 pound of your order! its not a 1st order code so if you order 1 pair in the sale you get them at the bargain price off 3.45 coz you'll only pay p&p just place loads of seperate orders and keep using the code its like free stuff{if its your 1st order dont use the 1st order code thats advertised on te site,it doesn't apply to sale stuff}

Ceolas · 13/01/2007 22:05

Are you needing things already Miaou?

I had these before and found them very comfortable.

I think Blooming Marvellous and JoJo have sales atm.

eidsvold · 13/01/2007 22:07

mine are fab - they are jeans and I had them for last pregnancy and this one - very comfy and they stay up. Mine were from Asda - cost me ten quid!! But that was in 2002.

Miaou · 13/01/2007 22:08

ooooh thanks katybumps!!

Ceolas - no not yet, still in my ordinary clothes (amazingly - I was already in maternity stuff at this stage when pg with ds!!). But my mum has offered to buy me a top from Vertbaudet and I was wondering about piggybacking on her order and getting a pair of trousers too.

How are you doing, gal btw? Morning sickness biting?

Miaou · 13/01/2007 22:09

Humph - nearest Asda is probably about 100 miles from me! I have a Tesco about 80 miles away but they don't do maternity (despite being a big Tesco ). Tis not cheap living in the arse-end of nowhere!!

All day nausea but not much actual vomiting

Just 8 weeks atm. Booking with MWs on Thursday.

Good idea about the ordering, especially if you use the code.

katybumps · 13/01/2007 22:11

no probs let us know how you get on , ive ordered a portable crib , can't wait for it to come

strawberri · 13/01/2007 22:11

got two pairs from h&m, lovely fit, living in them!

eidsvold · 14/01/2007 06:40

Miaou - despite the asda near us doing clothing - no maternity. I think we had to go to two near my MIL's in Kent before we found any maternity clothing. We lived in the Southend area and MIL lived in Rochester!! So i went a ways for them too

Creena · 14/01/2007 12:38

I've also had problems with maternity trousers either being too long in the leg or falling down all of the time. I would agree that the under the bump ones are the worst. If you decide to be in any way mobile (i.e. not sitting down the entire time), they don't stay up for longer then 5 seconds. If you try going up the stairs in them, they'll be round your ankles before you get to the top, I promise. You might be able to get away with wearing a belt with the under the bump ones but this will become more impractical the bigger you get and isn't particularly comfy when you do actually sit down. You just can't win, eh?

I spotted some maternity jeans on the Mamas and Pappas website - they're on the bump but also have an adjustable waistband (one of those 'move the button along' affairs, I think). I thought that they sounded quite good and more likely to stay put. They're not cheap though, at £35 a pop.
