I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
links.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hello everyone!

Warning: whinge time...

So have I had the worst few days. Remember how the doc thought trying to wean me off the meds was a good idea? Well it wasn't. When they put me back on, the tablets had entirely stopped working. To sum up, since the weekend I have been 100% convinced that I was actually now just dying (drama queen), I felt so ill, I couldn't really see anything & my head was banging like the worst migraine ever. I'd spent all of Saturday in the loo, could not stop being sick. It turned out I had gone into extreme dehydration.

Anyhoo, I have new pills! 🎉🎉🎉

Which seem to be working! 🎉🎉🎉

So, apologies for the MIA, waves to all!

How is everyone? Big welcome to the new people, sorry you're here though.

Rae I think it was you who asked about the market? I bought a fabric buggy book, a Annabel Karmel book, & a little set of knitted hat & jumper - made by an old lady who had a thing for knitting baby things. Felt so ill, so was only there about 10 mins.

Ickle what did you buy?? What did you keep? Ooooo! I have bought not quite everything, but quite a lot of stuff!
I have a parcel here that I've not opened & I've been so ill that I can't remember what I ordered! I'm gonna open it now & then I can tell you...

Well, that explains the credit card bill!

Summer nursing shawl in ice blue (sale);
Milan Bump Kit (previously ordered the London but it was both too big & too small, so trying Milan);
Paris floral breastfeeding nightie (sale);
Signature crop leggings (sale);
Mint jumper with poppers (sale, & lovely!);
Overbump skinny jeans.

Ooopsy.

Waves again to everyone 👋🏼

P.s. Apologies for the over use of emojis, I think I'm over excited about the whole not actually dying thing...

RaeSkywalker · 30/06/2016 08:17

Shells welcome. I'm on ondansetron and cyclizine and couldn't function without the ondansetron. I was worried about the side effects too, but was reassured that the benefits outweigh the risks when you're in such a state. Being ketotic is not good for you or the baby.

ickle I know I am so lucky with my boss, she has been a great source of support. I had my annual review yesterday which I was dreading but she was really reassuring about how pleased she is with my performance (when I'm there!) the dentist appointment is at 12 today. I'm bracing myself for bad news because alongside all the vomiting, I haven't been brushing as thoroughly as I normally would (brushing makes me sick/ makes me gag). Definitely get those work tops sanded again! We have wooden work tops too, I am ridiculously protective of them.

... Also ickle I like both of your dresses, so I see why you're struggling to choose. I think the striped one edges it for me though (I'm all about the stripes).

Oh Lucy that is awful! I remember that "I'm about to die" feeling well. What are you on now? Don't let them wean you off again until you're ready! Sounds lien you did well at the market and with your online shop though. Hope you're feeling better soon Flowers

mrsmonkey14 · 30/06/2016 09:49

I'm out!! Now must REST. Baby is ok, I was just too dehydrated which is why I got admitted. (Interestingly ketones not that high but they were concerned about how I looked (!) and the fact I was so weak and dizzy - and i went there by taxi so it wasn't as if the journey was what did it). Anyway glad to be home and on a mission to drink as much as poss. Now that DD's bday is done I haven't got so much on.

shells welcome, yes another on Ondansetron here, if you go back a couple of pages on this thread you'll see links to the RCOG guidelines and preg sickness support which gives you the info on safety.

ickle I like the navy lace one best! (Might be biased tho as think I have same one - seraphine??) I hope you have a lovely party, please rest lots before and after.

lucy sorry to hear about the setback and glad you are a bit more sorted with meds now.

Can't remember what else is going on so shall simply wave hello to lucinda and everyone else and wish you a good day.

LucindaE · 30/06/2016 09:53

Shells Welcome. Please don't worry about taking the meds. You would not have been prescribed them if the doctor didn't think that the dangers of dehydration - which happens to women with this without meds - far outweighed any slight risk connected with taking them. There have been several studies proving them safe. If you follow the links above in my introductory post, you'll be convinced, I think. Nobody likes taking meds. Sometimes you have to. I hope I don't sound bossy.
Lucy That sounds awful. Poor you. Did they have to admit you for fluids? I don't see why they didn''t suggest a gradual withdrawal just to see how you got on, not something drastic.

mrsmonkey How are you feeling now? Are the ketones down yet?
Are you out?
icklekid I love the second one, the floaty one You look lovely in it, even if I can't see your head!
I hope everyone is more or less coping. Back soon...
watch me cross post with someone.

mrsmonkey I knew I'd cross post with someone with important news!
So glad you are out. It must have been awful to be that dehydrated so late on. Take care of yourself.
Lucy and Shells as below.

SpecialStains · 30/06/2016 10:08

MrsMonkey Congratulations on your release! Please behave yourself now you're out - lots of rest and focussing on keeping down fluids. Not long to go now. Fingers crossed that was your last trip to hospital before the birth.

Ickle I like the stripy dress, and I think you have a lovely, neat bump!

Lucy Glad you're back on the meds and that they are helping.

Rae Congratulations on a good performance review!

Shells Welcome, and sorry you had to find us. The medication is safe and better for baby than you being dehydrated. I know it's scary taking it though. Ondansetron is really good stuff.

Lucinda Hope you're getting on ok.

Today I've been quite nauseous again and retching a bit, so I'm doing sat down jobs and picked out paints for baby's room (job for DH at the weekend), and I'm doing a stock take of baby clothes to see if there's anything we're lacking (there's spreadsheets involved). Tried to put some scratch mittens on the cat, but he was not impressed. Grin

TwoDrifters · 30/06/2016 10:24

snowy Hello! It's been a while since I've been on this board (v. busy dealing with my almost 6-month-old gorgeous baby boy!) but it was an absolute lifesaver throughout my hideous HG pregnancy.
My baby was breech at my final scan and I was booked in for an ELCS. I didn't really want this so did all the exercises on the spinning babies website (laid with legs up the wall, climbed forwards hands first off the bed etc!) & when I went in for my op, he had spun round! So they sent me home.
Ended up with an EMCS but that's another story Wink

icklekid · 30/06/2016 13:47

twodrifters some good tips for if baby us breech although I'm not sure I have the range of movement for climbing hands first off the bed!

special being very nosy what colours are you looking at for nursery? I definitely had spreadsheets for ds before he was born with comparisons of moses basket mattresses etc. Baby clothes lots of vests (short and long sleeved) and baby gros in newborn and 0-3. Ds was in new born for a while as he was quite small. I opened one packet of each size and kept all receipts pre baby coming (so I could wash and do cute washing line photo of all white then contrast to all blue a few months later! 😶)

mrsmonkey interesting what you said about ketones as my gp was of a similar mindset and often long term dehydration is just as dangerous so even if ketones are low but persisitent he wanted me to get checked out. Mine are back at trace levels after 2 weeks of rest so should be fine... got a phased return for final 3 weeks which is basically pop in for important meetings but don't push yourself. I think will probably be in for a few hours a couple of days each week. Perhaps go play games with some classes to release teachers to get stuff ready for next year. I love the end of term!

rae I'm not sure I can choose to be honest as like both but they are so different! Think I will wear lace one for party but keep hold of stripey one for now...if I don't wear it then return in a couple of weeks and if I do just sell on ebay. Shhh don't tell dh!

lucy glad your back on medication. I've been on it all pregnancy and don't see that stopping now to be honest. Just looking forward to sickness going after birth. Pleased to see I'm not the only one shopping!

Ds kept saying no to nap so went down a bit later but was so happy as long as he has a nice long sleep that's even better for me in some ways! (Less time before dh comes home!) He is so much better now he has the extension to run around in!

SpecialStains · 30/06/2016 15:19

Ickle I am delighted to have someone ask me about nursery colours! It's a conversation I am currently forcing on DH! I like this and this . So either pale yellow or pale minty green. I want the weather to be nicer next week so I can sand down and paint a couple of bits of furniture in baby's room and paint them white (as we've been given so much stuff which is nice and usable, but all mismatching). I was thinking I ought to put in the nursery effort this time, as I want more than one dc and unlikely to have the same amount of free time and enthusiasm second time round!

Again with the clothes, we've been given/gifted so much that I've had to buy very little, so just doing a good wash of the hand me downs, and I'm washing everything I've bought as there's really not much new stuff I could return. Also, my mum has hand knitted tons of cardigans and jumpers for the first year of baby's life (not exaggerating). I opened one of the bags of hand me downs I've been given to find a bunch of grow bags and blankets I didn't know we'd got either! Baby needs no more clothes until he's a year old!

Hi twodrifters how lovely your baby is 6months now! Time goes really fast.

RaeSkywalker · 30/06/2016 16:53

mrsmonkey glad you're out. Hope you're getting some rest!

Special I have a spreadsheet too! It's the only way to organise as far as I'm concerned. Hope you're feeling a bit better now. The colours for your nursery are gorgeous! We're thinking a very soft grey with pops of bright colour for now, but I might change my mind when we get the paint samples on the wall and want more colour!

twodrifters great tips! Congratulations on your little one.

ickle where are the dresses from? I need a nice one for a wedding, not sure where to start! Glad that you (and your DS) are enjoying the extension.

Good news from my dentist today! No signs of decay at all. Huge, huge relief: I was bracing myself for at least 1 filling. She did say that I had more plaque than I did at my last checkup but that's to be expected because I can't brush without gagging. She told me not to worry and just make sure I rinse my mouth out with water right after being sick to minimise any damage. Phew!!

Freshbreadandfaith · 30/06/2016 16:57

Thanks special I'm nearly 18 weeks now and HUGE!!!! measuring 100cms around waist /bump already.......
shells I'm on onsansetron too, I also was worried about the risks but it's the only thing that has helped and I sadly cannot function without it
hugs to everyone

SpecialStains · 30/06/2016 18:27

Fresh it might not feel like it, but time is going fast and you're almost halfway there! Most people get some reduction in symptoms towards third trimester. Have you got your 20week scan booked? Are you going to find out the sex? It's amazing how so many good sized babies are created on a diet of beige foods and fizzy drinks! Big bump is a good sign. Smile

Rae Good work on the successful dentist trip. I really should book one.
I have a slight obsession with Pinterest nursery ideas, which started when I was signed off sick and has got progressively worse! Grey works really well in a nursery. This'll be the first room we've decorated in the new house, so looking forward to having something other than magnolia on the walls!

Jodders · 30/06/2016 18:33

Hi all, feeling a bit overwhelmed I'm reading a trying to get to know everyone - there's a lot of us unfortunately. My friend told me today that she takes this for HG. Anyone here take / heard of it?

I'm in bits. It's so much worse in the evenings. I slept for three hours this afternoon but woke feeling sick. I'm craving milk already! I suppose that is good? I hope that word doesn't make anyone sick!

Jodders · 30/06/2016 18:34

Hyperemesis Support
RaeSkywalker · 30/06/2016 18:39

Jodders I haven't heard of that, sorry. Someone more knowledgeable than me should be along soon though.

Thanks for the reassurance r.e. grey Special. Most people I've mentioned it to so far have been distinctly Hmm. I like muted colours and there rest of our house is a collection of very soft blues, whites, greens and greys so I think that's why I'm drawn to similar for the nursery. Plus, a calm colour means that the baby will sleep well, right?

SpecialStains · 30/06/2016 18:40

Quick Google shows that cariban contains pyridoxine (vitamins b6). NICE guidelines specifically do not recommend the use of that for hyperemesis, as there's no evidence that it works and can cause peripheral neuropathy.

SpecialStains · 30/06/2016 18:42

Also, really sorry to hear you're feeling bad. If you can keep milk down that's great. Go for the full fat variety, as that contains the most nutrients (most vitamins in milk are fat soluble).

Vixxfacee · 30/06/2016 19:39

I am in so much admiration for everyone who is going through this. Especially those with children already and those who have had it passed the usual 12 weeks.

Back to the drs tomorrow. I am really struggling. Not just sickness but I'm starving, haven't got the energy to brush hair or do eyebrows, can't cook or clean. Feel like a useless slob.

ShellsA · 30/06/2016 19:42

Thank you all so much for your kind words and reassurance! Smile
I have started the Odansetron today so hope to get some strength back and finally drag myself back to work too!

jodders Mine is also worse in the evening so not sleeping until 3/4am. Living on potatoes and Ice Lollies and catching any sleep when I can.

Reading all your comments I definitely need to book a dentist appointment too, such a struggle brushing teeth without gagging!

Look forward to sharing some happy news with you all soon.
X

LucyHMK · 30/06/2016 20:30

Ickle I like them both, the black is more party ish, but the stripy is a more flattering neckline.

Lucinda thankfully not. New pills are an antihistamine of some sort. They seem to upset my stomach less, so that's something.

Special, Rae, ours is pearl grey (a light blue grey, looks quite airy), putting up white cloud wall stickers & a big rainbow on clouds on the white wall opposite. Curtains are blackout with stars, have cloud bunting & a cloud mobile we bought in Copenhagen. Turning into a bit of a theme!

Freshbreadandfaith · 30/06/2016 21:20

special scan booked 13th July and yes will find out sex...... I think it's a boy....

SpecialStains · 30/06/2016 21:47

Fresh Exciting stuff. I liked the early scans, they really did help me when I was feeling awful. I knew from the start it was a boy, honestly really had a strong feeling about it. DH points out that I had a 50/50 chance of guessing right, but I knew.

Ickle I'm blaming you for my online John Lewis order, after you mentioned colourful baby blankets...

Rae I think your nursery sounds like it will be lovely.

Shells Fingers crossed the ondansetron does the trick.

icklekid · 01/07/2016 02:15

2am been awake an hour after dh woke up and turned light on. No idea why can't sleep but not impressed 😥

special I will happily take that blame! Hope it's lovely!

fresh less than 2 weeks away now- will you be telling people sex?

lucy your nursery sounds lovely! I think you have summarised my dress dilemma well. Basically stripy is more practical but lacy is more fun. I may just give up on deciding and hope that ebaying both after is worth it!

shells hope it makes a difference quickly- don't rush back to work too soon as can make it much worse bitter experience rest really does make a big difference. I think the teeth brushing leading to gagging is very common. Especially in the eve?

vixx I know that useless feeling all too well. I spent weeks in bed/lying on sofa. I wouldn't feel too bad, then I would get up to do the smallest of tasks and be floored. Really pathetic and similar in some ways to when I had chronic fatigue. Don't put yourself down as it's a lot to cope with mentally as well as physically.

rae nursery sounds lovely -I like the idea of pops of colour. Dh is less sold on things like that! Also smiling and nodding at pale calm grey inducing sleep 😄 that's exactly how it works...😉! The dresses are from seraphine and jo jo mama bebe both in sale/ 20% discount code!

special those nursery colours look fab and really fun! Painting mismatched furniture white is a really sensible idea. In some ways am sad not to be decorating another nursery (ds will move into our spare room when needed and baby into nursery) however after decorating nearly all of downstairs for this extension I am just grateful not to have to attempt any more painting!

Right baby momentarily stopped kicking and googled all I can after builder admitted they don't know how to lay cladding vertically yesterday! I wish he hadn't told me tbh as now worried its going to look awful! Nothing else they have done has been bad though so just going to have to hope for the best!!!

RaeSkywalker · 01/07/2016 08:00

Vixx I hope you get on ok at the Drs!

Shells hope ondansetron works for you. It's not pleasant but bear in mind that constipation is a side effect- most of is have suffered with it. Might be worth asking for something to treat it now so that you can use it if/ when needed.

Lucy I think our nurseries might end up looking very similar!

Fresh I'm convinced that ours is a boy too, I just feel it really strongly. We're going for a surprise though so we'll have to wait a bit longer than you to find out- unless it flashes us at the scan next week! Grin

ickle I would not be pleased to be woken up that early! He owes you one. Thanks for the clothes tips. Hope the cladding goes well- what type are you having?

LucyHMK · 01/07/2016 08:37

Special just realise you'd linked. I like them both. The green I think has the edge for me, but I do love mint green. It's me who just followed you on Pinterest, btw.
