What do your children call their grandparents?

My parents are currently engaged in a good natured argument about what their "grandparent" names will be- seeing as this is their first time.

Just out of interest (read; nosiness) what are your parents' grandparent names? I'd love to hear any unusual ones :)

I only ever had paternal grandparents, and they were Grandma and Grandpa.

We've tentatively agreed that when DC1 arrives, my parents will be Grandma and Grandpa, and DH's will be Granny and Granddad. Don't know if it will stick in reality though!

My mum is Gu (short for mamgu in Welsh)
My dad is bampa or bamps

Kids' dad's parents are grandma and grandad

My grandfather is Grampa, and before she died my grandmother was gran (maternal grandparents)

My paternal grandmother is Granny-name, and before he died grandfather was Grampa-name

Ds can't speak yet but we call my mum nanny and my dad gan gan

When I was growing up mine were Oma and Grandpa. Oma wasn't dutch or german, but a corruption of grandma, which my eldest brother couldn't say.

My mother was adamant that she wouldn't be Nanny or Nanna.

A little easier for me, my mum has already said she wants to be Nanny or Nana and my dad wants to be Grandpa. DH only has his mum and she's already a Grandma, so sorted! For now anyway!

My mum's parents were Nanny and Grandad, my dad's parents were Grandma and Grandpa. Interesting that they've each chosen what their own parents were referred to by us as kids.

Grinds on me a little though, I don't really like Nanny or Nana, it would seem weird for me to refer to my mum as such, plus I think it should be either Grandma and Grandpa or Nanny and Grandad, not Nanny and Grandpa. But that's just me being pernickety ;)

I'd personally like to have a unique nickname (if/when I became a grandparent), there's too many nannys, grans and grandmas.

Anyway, as you said, these things can evolve over time or come from the grandchild themselves, they may not even have a choice ha ha ;)

My daughter calls my father grandpa.
My partners father grandpa
My granddad grandpa
And other grandad grandpa

Gets very confusing.

Interesting that only one other person has mentioned Granda and they mentioned it was an Irish person - I'm from NI and it (certainly was when I was growing up) very common there.

To me Grandma sounds very posh and nanny/nana not so much - I see Granny and Granda as somewhere in the middle. I actually really don't like Nanny at all but I'm stuck with it as it's what DH called his mum's mum and so it's what she chose to be called when we had our DC.

I think I would like to be Granny, but I would maybe take Gran. Not sure I could be happy with anything else - they just sound too off to me. I suspect my DH (when the time comes) will want to be Grandad as that's what he grew up with too.

When I was a child mine were all called Grandma & Grandad which was v confusing.

My parents are grandma/granny and grandad.

ILS are Nana and Pops.

My grandparents are all Grandma and Grandad Surname.

Inlaws are grandma and grandad, my parents are nana and grandad. Dh's grandma is great grandma.

DM chose Grandma. She was very particular about it as Nanny is "too common" and Granny made her sound too old
My DstepF is known as Pops to avoid stepping on my F's toes which is daft given F has only met DD once when she was 19mo and has otherwise never shown an interest in her.
F is known as Granddad on the rare occasion he is mentioned.
Unfortunately DH's parents passed away many years ago so they don't have names as yet as DD is still quite young so only just learning the names of people she sees. We refer to them as Daddy's Mummy/Daddy ATM, but will eventually be Grandma first name and Granddad first name I guess.
