I was induced at 36 weeks because I had pre e. I had a pessary in at 12pm one day and as the day progresses I became more and more uncomfortable. I'm sure the hormones in the pessary make you extremely sensitive. I had light period pains on and off that night but they'd died off by the next morning. At 1pm the following day they checked me again and I wasn't even dilated. The examination was so painful I cried. However, that day I walked about as much as I could and by night time I was getting much stronger pains. They checked me at about 11pm because I was starting to feel quite stressed with the pain and I was 1cm at the most. They decided after a while they could move me to the labour ward so I could have my waters broken and get some better pain relief. I moved down about 1.20am and DS was born at 2.31am. No interventions.

I remember the despair I felt that the pessaries weren't working and the frustration with not knowing what was going on or what the long term plan was. I also considered begging for a section. Retrospectively I'm so glad I didn't have a section. But I totally understand the way you're feeling now. Hope it's all over for you soon xx

I meant to say I had no proper pain relief either. Just a bit of gas and air towards the end. I could have had it sooner but they didn't realise how far gone I was. I did actually have a pethidine injection but it was about 10 minutes max before he was born so it wouldn't have taken effect for the actual birth!

Is there a reason why your parents have such strong views about C-Sections? Do they also understand about pre-eclampsia?
On the plus side, the doctors obviously aren't too worried about any health issues if they are still deciding what to do. I had a 24hr time limit as I was so ill.
Appreciate that's of little comfort to you at the moment though!
For what it's worth, I was surprised by how little pain I was in after my section. It really is incredible when you think about it. Yes, you have to go easy for a bit but that's no bad thing. If anything, I think it forces you to rest and recover which you need however you give birth.

Good luck my lovely, be firm with the doctors about your wishes.

Hitting and running here but my CS was at 4pm and I was wandering the corridors looking for toast at midnight...my CS was only 10% as painful as I thought it'd be they pump you full of pain relief

Champagneformyrealfriends · 26/03/2016 08:53

lastnight I think it's because my mum had 3 straightforward vaginal births with no pain relief-she of the opinion that people think CS is the easy way out and don't understand how serious an op it is.

2many a few people have said the same to me! I'm just hoping the registrar comes soon to tell me either way.

Oh bloody hell! I had a vaginal delivery with no pain relief, I certainly don't consider CS the 'easy' option!!!

Major abdominal surgery!! Christ people really have to educate themselves on childbirth choices, it really is sad that so many people think like that.

Anyway, extreme tangent there!

Good luck OP, rooting for you from the green corner!!

Champagneformyrealfriends · 26/03/2016 12:17
