sepa my sister knows someone who had the oxytocin drip and they said it was like 0-60mph in terms of contractions and they'd have an epidural too! So I'll have a think and research this week. If I need the drip I'll probably just go for the epidural though! Flowers

In the interests of full disclosure, I only needed the gel - my waters went by themselves and kick started contractions. Which were every minute or so. 0-60 is a perfect description of that!

So it might be the PE rather than the drip that does it.

Completely agree with sepa, if you know all of the options you'll feel much more relaxed.

Imnotacelebgetmeouttahere · 16/03/2016 08:50

I had the drip for the first two inductions i had and also epidurals as it was offered with a " you'll be needing this" Confused

My last one was a vbac and induced with the drip ( dodgy hospital not the norm I don't think ) and I actually did it with just gas and air and it was fine! Went from no labour to in labour within 2hrs... No real contractions tho...things got painful at 4.45 and he was out at 5.01

Champagneformyrealfriends · 16/03/2016 09:05

lastnightiwenttomanderley thank you-I can't tell you how nice it is to speak to women who have been through this! My sister and mum had entirely natural, uncomplicated births with no pain relief so they can't help me!

Imnotaceleb thank you - I'm hoping it will be like your vbac! Fingers crossed! You've made me feel less anxious. Flowers

Champagne I'm in the same position as you... Told yesterday that I'm being induced next Tuesday for high BP... Goodbye plans for a nice natural water birth :(
So this thread has made me feel loads better, thank you Champagne and everyone!
I agree with you that if I'm having the drip I'll probably go the whole hog and have the epidural too :)
Good luck with your induction, hope everything goes well! :)

Champagneformyrealfriends · 16/03/2016 12:13

princesspineapple we're in it together! Feel free to pm me if you like-I've no idea how long it'll take them to get me started so we might be glad of the company! This thread has made me feel loads better-thank you to all posters Flowers

I had my youngest last year, he was induced at 37+3 as my waters were leaking.

Nothing happened the first day, the second I was back on a drip at 8 am, contractions started around 1pm and he was born at 3.15. I didn't find it any more painful than my natural births and I coped fine moving around the room, you don't automatically need a epidural with an induction. Please don't let people fill your head with horror stories about how much more painful inducted labours are, everyone is different

Champagneformyrealfriends · 16/03/2016 14:42

stolemyusername thank you! I'm trying not to google too much and I've only told people I'm close to, partly to avoid the horror stories and partly so I don't spend all day Tuesday answering "have you had the baby?!" texts! Flowers

I only told family and 1 friend that I was being induced to stop the texts. It was lovely to not have the whole is baby here yet!

I personally didn't like gas and air (although it did make contractions a lot easier) because I felt like it dried me out too much.
I had pethidine which worked for about 2hrs before wearing off. I really liked it but probably wouldn't have it again though as it crosses the placenta and I'm sure it's what made my bubs sleepy when she was here.

I don't know why people share horror stories. I will only tell people who have had kids my full labour (if they ask) because I don't think it's fair to put that on someone. My colleague did a whole labour on gas and air alone, my friend who got induced did it with an epidural and said she found it fine. Every pregnancy, labour and baby is different. You just need to go in with an open mind

CountessOfStrathearn · 16/03/2016 20:56

I've had a home birth and been induced on delivery suite and can honestly say that they were both lovely. The induction went really well and quickly. I did need the drip and perhaps should have had the epidural placed earlier but in the end it was all very quick and uncomplicated despite a big baby with a big head. If anything I recovered far more quickly from it than from the (similarly uncomplicated) home birth before it.

Noappointmentnecessary · 16/03/2016 21:06

I was induced and it was awful. What could have made it better? Gas and Air - so please please please ask for it every time they exam you internally or stick something inside you. Then you will be ok. I wish I had known this. Good Luck. Ps after all that it didn't work and I had a c-section which was fantastic x

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 21/03/2016 20:07

Champagne - good luck for tomorrow!

Champagneformyrealfriends · 21/03/2016 20:09

How are you getting on? My BP went through the roof during induction and now on meds for a month for it!
Are you having the pessary (sp?) and the oxytocin if it doesn't work?

dynevoran · 22/03/2016 20:13

Hope you're okay and things are progressing well.

sepa · 23/03/2016 17:29

How are things going Champagne?

Champagneformyrealfriends · 23/03/2016 17:52

Hi sorry I've only just seen replies! I had the pessary yesterday after a particularly painful sweep and at about 8pm I started with mild contractions which lasted all night. I was violently sick this morning so they gave me an anti sickness injection then tried to examine me again but I was too tense for her to sweep again. My contractions died off when they removed the first pessary so I've had a prostaglandin one put in which is in 6 hours and she managed another sweep (I had gas and air!). If this works then they'll try and break my waters, if not they'll try the drip.

I'm finding the whole experience a bit traumatic if I'm honest-being examined is causing me a lot of stews and my BP is still high. I'm hoping things will progress soon!

Champagneformyrealfriends · 23/03/2016 17:53

Stress not stews lol
