Worried - 7 weeks PG and brownish discharge

Can anyone help?
I'm 7 weeks gone with my first pregnancy and this morning have noticed that I have some slight brownish stringy discharge when I wipe which seems to be getting worse (sorry if too much info!!). I first noticed a teeny tiny amount last night but as this morning has progressed I seem to have more when I wipe. I don't seem to have any accompanying pain.
Is this normal and should I be worried at all? Any advice GREATLY appreciated. As it is my first pregnancy I'm so worried that something will go wrong

Cant help i am afraid but can understand that you may be feeling anxious about so am really just posting so that the thread will move back to the top and get noticed by someone who knows about or has experienced this.

MrsTom · 04/01/2007 11:33

Thanks chocolaterobin.
I keep dashing off to the loo every 10 minutes to check. I think I'm quite possibly going bonkers!
Nothing much I can do I guess apart from keep an eye on it. Stressing myself out about it will only make things worse.

spotting, bleeding and discharge are not necessarily an indicator of an inevitable miscarriage, especially if no pain BUT , if you can get checked out, it will put your mind at rest...the doctor might be able to refer you to the EPU, where you could be scanned...or wait and see, as if you are going to miscarry, there is nothing to be done..i;m afraid..so fingers crossed, it is just 'one of those things' and will settle down..

bambi06 · 04/01/2007 11:36

this happened to me at 6 weeks but then developed into bleeding the next day and i miscarried but no pain and just heavy bleeding and felt fine physically ..but i`ve heard of others that have had that and carried on and had a healthy pregnancy..time will tell unfortunately

MrsTom · 04/01/2007 11:40

Oh crap!
I still have pretty naff sickness and sore boobs - is this a good sign?

Try not to be too anxious. I had this at 6 weeks pg. It stopped quite quickly and my ds is now nearly 2. I was convinced I was miscarrying as I had experienced that before. As Lulu said there is nothing you can do but wait and try not to be too worried. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Thanks x
This little bean is very, very, very much longed for!

I had this and unfortunately did go on miscarry, BUT I know of 5 other people who had the same thing and now have healthy babies so I would say the odds are in your favour. With mine I did have slight backache and soreness like a period so if you have no pain I think that is positive. I have my fingers crossed for you.

PeckaRolloverAgain · 04/01/2007 11:52

Your pregnancy symptoms are good signs yes.

As your 7 weeks if you were feeling very anxious (which of course you are!!) the baby would be now visible on a scan so they would be able to see if all looked ok.

Does your hospital have an EPAC? (early pregnancy clinic?)

Quite often you can self refer.

BUT dont panic too much, bleeding in early pregnancy is incredibly common.

take care xxx

MrsTom · 04/01/2007 11:57

Thanks everyone for all your messages.

Thinking about it, I did have a little bit of back ache when I got in bed on Tuesday night but after a few mins it went away. I put it down to lounging in a bad position on the sofa!

Not sure if my hospital has an early pregnancy clinic but if things get any worse I'll find out and get myself down there!

My GP advised me to go to A&E, and I must say the recpetionist at A&E was not pleased and was a bit sniffy with me but eventually they saw me and I got examined and a scan booked. Apparently they do not usually do reassurance scans and I should have just waited to see what happened. Absolute cobblers in my opinion, so you may have to insist on being seen. good luck.

clothears · 04/01/2007 12:15

I know this must be a very anxious time for. i read LOTS of books with my pregnancy and was told to expect spotting at around 6/7 weeks. SOme people get it some dont. I was in agony for 6weeks from week 3 onwards with my prgenancy which went full term and my DD is fine. Try and relax and dont worry. Your other sypmtons are a good sign but a trip to your ante natal clinic for a quick scan might reassure you.
Please keep us informed.

Take Care

hi MrsTom

When I had brownish discharge at 14 weeks one reassuring thing the midwife told me was that dark reddish or browny discharge (as opposed to bright red) means that it is old blood. Therefore could be a bit of bleeding or some cervical erosion, which has finished but has taken some time to pass down.
Everything was fine for me after a few days.

Good luck - I know how anxious you must be feeling, I remember hopping to the toilet every few minutes to check too x

PeterJones · 04/01/2007 12:42

I had this with both my pregnancies - same sort of blood, same time. the first was fine, DS now 18 months. 2nd unfortunately early sign of missed miscarriage. From my experience, I would wait till 8 weeks and then go to an EPU and have a vaginal scan. AT least you will then know whjat's going on

Piffle · 04/01/2007 12:53

Not wishing to freak you out but this happened to me 2 yrs ago, I posted on here and one person warned me to watch out for for one sided pain/shoulder pain and to get to A+E pronto.
most folks said bleeding was ok and it was old blood etc
BUT I did wake in the night and knew instantly what it was and that poster quite nearly saved my life.
So I expect you will be perfectly fine butdo be aware that brown blood or prune juice type dishcarge can be a sign of an ectopic as well.
good luck and I hope everything is ok for you xxxxxxxxxxxx

chocolatebirdy · 04/01/2007 22:32

How you doing mrstom, has it stopped?

MrsTom · 05/01/2007 09:23

Hi all

Well, not wanting to jinx things but I haven't had anything since about lunchtime yesterday. Perhaps it was just a bit of old stuff working its way out after all!

Still suffering with MS and sore boobs. Fingers crossed x

Hi MrsTom

I'm 8 weeks today and 2 weeks ago sounds as if I had the exact same brown stuff as you- was 2 days bfore Xmas and I got myself into a right state- again 1st pregnancy and took ages TTC. It lasted about 48 hours.
I had a 7 week early scan booked anyway which i had last week and all was totally OK with a heartbeat etc. The midwife and consultant both said this type of bleeding totally normal.(They were quite uninterested actually- I was a bit p-ed off!)

I had it again for a few hours a few days ago and it went again so I didn't panic.

I'm still all a bit nervous about EVERYTHING but your 'bleeding' sounds very similar to mine so I'm sure will be OK- fingers crossed

glittercaz · 05/01/2007 11:52

Miss Tom,

I recently posted a message to a girl on here who was worried about bleeding, and I'll say the same to you as I did to her. I am now 11 weeks and on new year's eve I had a bit of a bleed - both red and brown blood. I got into the mother of all panics and dashed to the nearest A&E in floods of tears. I was examined and given a scan and everything was ok - heartbeat, baby still there etc etc.

The lovely doctor explained that bleeding in early pregnancy is very common (he said they see around 20 women a day with it!) and in the majority of cases things tend to be fine in cases of light bleeding without severe pain. I know that there are exceptions and people on here have had other experiences but he was talking about the majority of cases.

I hope that is reassuring and I hope all works out for you - let us know how you get on xx

wilkie50 · 05/01/2007 11:53

Hi MrsTom

Had exactly the same with this pg from 6 weeks which lasted a week and a half (just brown discharge, sometimes rusty red) then it stopped, at 8.5 weeks had it again for two days (rusty red). Went to EPAU both times for a scan and saw heartbeat. Am now 37+5 weeks.

They put mine down to irritated cervix as there was no visible bleeding from the uterus.

Always worth getting checked out though as every pregnancy IS different.

xx

paulaplumpbottom · 05/01/2007 12:06

When I was 6 weeks in September my miscarriage started out that way, so its probably worth getting it checked out, however it could also be completly normal so don't get to stressed until you speak to someone.

MrsTom · 05/01/2007 12:19

Hi all, thanks for the messages.

As it (hopefully) seems to have gone for the time being, I'm just going to sit tight and see what happens. No point getting wound up in a tizz and making myself ill about it. If it does reappear then I'll make an appt to see what is going on. If (god forbid) it is a MC, there isn't really much that we can do apart from wait and see (as usual the voice of MrTom speaking sensibly there!)

I've had this mrs T - each time very worrying - but stopped after 10/12 week point.

KezzaG · 05/01/2007 15:04

Glad to hear its stopped MrsTom. Will you let is know all is ok when you have a scan?

Toothyboy · 05/01/2007 15:10

I had exactly the same at about 6/7 weeks in my 2nd pregnancy - ds2 is now 10.5 months old. I was of the same opinion as MrTom at the time. I believe a bit of spotting/brown discharge is very common.

Hope all is OK - keep us informed.
