My DH asked me this today what I'm going to wear (I'm only 17 weeks so a long time to decide!)

I just thought everyone wears a nightie?!

Dc1: T-shirt-style baggy nightie.
Dc2: T-shirt, bra, socks (because I didn't get undressed fast enough - dc2 nearly born into my knickers!)
Dc3: nothing (water birth)

My preference: on land labour in something comfy, actually give birth in a loose T-shirt, in water let it all hang out with no clothes at all.

DC1 - old t-shirt that was fit for throwing out
DC2 - hospital gown
DC3 - nightie, just one of usual everyday ones

Naked in the pool. I stripped off at the first opportunity, just couldn't bare to have any clothes on whilst labouring.

wickedlazy · 17/01/2016 20:23

Nightie, then hospital gown, then back in nightie.

hufflebottom · 17/01/2016 20:32

Hospital gown then changed into vest top and very baggy tracksuit bottoms.

And will pretty much do the same this time.

minipie · 17/01/2016 20:35

Baggy Tshirt with a low neckline for the first BF, both times.

Second time I wore socks too (no time to take them off) Great look Grin

capsicumcat21 · 17/01/2016 20:36

Bizarrely in both cases the outfit I was wearing when I went into hospital.

For some reason both times they wouldn't let me change into the night dress I brought in my hospital bag (I have no idea why). The second time I was wearing a very lovely Monsoon top! Confused Smile

AllOutOfNaiceHam · 17/01/2016 20:40

Naked with DCs 2&3 and by far more comfortable than half the hospital gown I wore with DC1.

StitchesInTime · 17/01/2016 20:44

I wore a cheap black nightie.

SparklyTinselTits · 17/01/2016 20:46

I had a nice button-down night shirt in my bag that I intended to wear....but it turns out the room I gave birth in was like a feckin sauna, so I gave birth butt naked in the end!
my mum was right in saying all dignity goes out of the window, and you really don't care who sees all your bits and pieces Confused

NeckingtheNightNurse · 17/01/2016 20:53

First time marks & Spencer's nighty second time Asda nighty !

ocelot41 · 17/01/2016 20:53

By that point you will have no clue what you or wearing, nor will anyone care!

Jenjen86 · 17/01/2016 20:54

I am.really hoping for a water birth and have bought a tanking top to go in as like some people have said I feel a bit funny about being nude, but by the sounds of things when I get to it I won't care! I have also packed a big old primark tshirt in case I can't have a water birth and a maternity nightgown in case I need to stay in a few days that allows me to breastfeed. I feel like if I pack and prepare for as many eventualitys as possible I will be less panicked if things don't go to plan haha

Jenjen86 · 17/01/2016 20:55

*That's suppose to say tankini top haha, blooming autocorrect!

I intended to wear a nightie as I always said I wanted some dignity whilst giving birth. In reality I ripped all my clothes off as soon as I set my sights on the birthing pool.

BeaufortBelle · 17/01/2016 21:03

Hospital gown each time. My youngest is 17 so perhaps it was different then. Why would any one want to ruin their own stuff! My friends had all had babies first and advised to take dark button up nighties, dark dressing gown, and wipeable slippers! Guess I had practical friends. I don't ever remember being too hot or too cold either.

WeeseKeysAreThese · 17/01/2016 21:30

A hospital gown, I was admitted before I got my bag and I'm glad as nothing got ruined and it was easier for the epidural. As PPs have said you wont give a shit when it comes down to it you cant think of anything but the task in hand. I'm usually private and hate people seeing any parts mf my body but that went to pot when I was in labour.

CointreauVersial · 17/01/2016 21:36

An old teeshirt-style nighty each time - and it went in the bin afterwards.

Wigeon · 17/01/2016 21:36

Inexpensive black nightie with small white polka dots which I bought specially. For both births, three years apart. Didn't seem to get blood on it either time so I still wear it sometimes!

NewLife4Me · 17/01/2016 21:36

Old T shirt, that I think they incinerated afterwards.
It doesn't matter what you wear as long as you are comfy and you don't mind never seeing it again.

SuffolkNWhat · 17/01/2016 21:40

Nighty the first time and a bikini top for the second (water birth)

99percentchocolate · 17/01/2016 21:40

One of DP's tshirts.

Ughnotagain · 17/01/2016 21:41

Nothing! I planned on a nightie, didn't plan on having a water birth so didn't take anything to wear in water.

I did wear my nightie when I was "on land" for all of about five minutes, I was boiling.

Cherryberry1 · 17/01/2016 23:07

I had a water birth and wore nothing. So comfortable!
