What did you wear to give birth?

My DH asked me this today what I'm going to wear (I'm only 17 weeks so a long time to decide!)

I just thought everyone wears a nightie?!

I always used a cheap night t shirt from primark, with buttons at the front.couldnt stay completely naked, labour it's undignified enough as it is

First time, a hospital gown.

Second time, a vest top as I nearly had her in the ambulance!

Both times I've started with a bea and a loose shirt dress. Both times I've ended up completely naked - hospitals are hot and giving birth is hard work!

I bought a cheap primark nightie but ended up just giving birth in a vest top I had been wearing during the day. Labour progressed too quickly once at the hospital for me to care about getting changed.

Before I gave birth I never thought I'd be one of those people who don't care about being naked, but it's so true. You really don't care!

I had nighties but was put in a hospital gown both times. I was very embarrassed at the thought of being seen naked/people seeing my bits the first time, I was really stressed at the idea. By the time pfb was born, half the hospital staff had seen me and checked me over and I couldn't have cared less as long as my baby and I were safe and well. Second time around, I knew what to expect so it didn't bother me.

I started off wearing a vest top, but ended up in a hospital gown. Don't really remember where or when the change happened! Confused

I took an old t-shirt dress in my hospital bag and I remember lying on my side, zonked out on pethidine, and my partner holding it up timidly saying "would you like to put this on" and ignoring him! I was in my pyjamas when my waters broke so I put on joggers, a bra, vest and hoodie (and long socks cos it was cold!) and I was 5cm dilated when I arrived, so I stripped off my bottoms and just wandered around bare-arsed! Couldn't care less. I only realised once my son had been born that I still had my stripy knee socks on, they were much admired by the midwives!

I've bought a couple of cheap black/navy strappy nighties from Primark that I plan to wear - cooler than a t-shirt style one if when it's boiling, easy to pull down for skin to skin/feeding but long enough to cover my backside if I'm leaning over the bed/ball at any point.

Wore a vest top but would have quite happily worn nothing to be honest. I was boiling, any more clothing would have been very uncomfortable. And no, I'm not confident about my body but at that particular time I really didn't care.

A nightie and socks! I'd gone into labour during the night and everything moved quite quickly, so I'd just bunged on a pair of trousers & socks under my nightie to travel to hospital. Never got round to taking the socks off!

This time I've got another nightie packed but am hoping to be in the pool, in which case I suspect I'll end up naked or with bra on. We'll see!

(I ended up in theatre so maybe it was a hospital gown...?)

I can't remember either, and it was less than 6 months ago! Shock

19 hour labour + epidural + all of the drugs means everything was a blissful fug! Grin

Hospital gown every time. Nothing to wash afterwards.

Naked both times.
First time I tried to wear a singlet but vomited on it.
Second time I was naked from the second contraction (was in for an induction and felt like a shower after the first contraction)

I wore a vest top. I'm not confident about my body at all (even less now as lo was born yesterday) but by time he was here I was naked saying I don't care who sees me haha

I have no idea. Can't remember at all. Is that bad ?? It was nearly a decade ago, but if you had asked me two weeks after I still don't think I would remember. I do remember being on all fours with a couple of midwives behind me.
Basically, you become an animal ( which we all are really) and all thought of dignity or decorum goes out the window.

Arrived at the hospital in shorts and top. Went into the birthing pool with a crop top on, finished off giving birth wearing absolutely nothing Blush

With DD, a cheap nightie which was promptly disposed of afterwards.

With DS, just my socks Blush

I planned to wear a tankini top ( water birth) but as I was expecting DS to be overdue I was not packed for hospital when he decided to arrive a week before his due date. I ended up in the pool wearing a vest top.

With DS2 I planned on wearing the tankini top but in the end it was all so fast that I ended up wearing exactly the same grey vest top I wore when DS1 was born.

I'm pregnant with number 3 and I have given up on the tankini top this time.

Arrival at hospital: pj bottoms, t shirt, dh's dressing gown and some blood stained bath slippers (good look).

Birth: absolutely nothing! I was in the water for some of it, although tbh would probably just have stripped off no matter what!

I had a water birth and wore nothing. So comfortable!

Nothing! I planned on a nightie, didn't plan on having a water birth so didn't take anything to wear in water.

I did wear my nightie when I was "on land" for all of about five minutes, I was boiling.
