I want hints and tips on how to make the chances of going into labour early better.

All 3 ds's were late and the thought of going over my dates this time makes me want to weep.

If you think theres nothing to make it sart early, just humour me and make something up.

NO-ONE IS ALLOWED TO SAY SEX!!!!
I'LL HIT THEM WITH A LARGE STICK IF THEY DO!!!

an induction....possibly......

See if midwife can do a membrane sweep?

DINOsaurmummykissingsantaclaus · 18/12/2006 16:47

Acupuncture. I had acupuncture late on in pg with DS3 for backache and indigestion. The acupuncturist said to me in the last session, "Now, do you want baby to be early or late?" I said that due date would be fine and lo and behold, that's when he was born.

motherinfurrierfestivefrock · 18/12/2006 16:47

That would be a no.

Sorry.

MerryChristmasPANDAGHappyNewYe · 18/12/2006 16:48

well, I had a curry, fell down a flight of stairs (and had sex -well you did ask) within a couple of days of eachother and then labour started the next day - 13 days early!

BingCrosby · 18/12/2006 16:51

I hope you arent recommedning that LTH throw herself down some stairs Panda!!!

merrylissiemas · 18/12/2006 16:52

pineapple and raspberry leaf tea. tastes like shite but it does work

MerryChristmasPANDAGHappyNewYe · 18/12/2006 16:53

Bing - I did mean to add that the fall down the stairs was an accident, and not to be recommended, but it did seem to work !

coffeebaubles · 18/12/2006 16:56

Pretend its November ?

But on second thoughts, if Santa doesnt visit then there will be 3 upset mini TH's so ignore that.... hmmm

oranges · 18/12/2006 16:59

raspberry leaf tea was scarily effective for me, so much so that I wouldn't recommend it - I went into labour much too fast and tore.

PinkTinsel · 18/12/2006 17:02

cumin tea. spoon of cumin seeds or powder in boiling water with honey to taste.

drank a mug before bed and woke up in labour

LadyTophamHatt · 18/12/2006 17:04

Raspberry leaf tea....hmmm tired that with one of the ds's and it's sooo rank I almost vomited.

Pineapple...again tried with ds2+3 and it just made my mouth sore because it was soo acidic.

Can only just about climb the stairs anyway so throwing myself down them might be an option

Acupuncture sounds intersting, not sure I could ask for that to just bring on labour?? Would they do it if I wasn't close enough?

(3 weeks to go)

jalapeno peppers?

PinkTinsel · 18/12/2006 17:08

raspberry leaf tea tones the uterus and makes labour quicker but doesn't bring it forward.

FredBassett · 18/12/2006 17:09

nipple stimulation

KathyMCMLXXII · 18/12/2006 17:10

There was a MNer who thought a long train journey had brought hers on.

PinkTinsel · 18/12/2006 17:13

oh yeah fred bassett, i almost forgot about that! fab for keeping mild contractions going too and speeding up labour

cumin tea! it's not that bad honestly, just tastes a bit like the water someone used to wash a curry plate. AND IT WORKS!

mrsmalumbas · 18/12/2006 17:22

If you don't fancy a shag how about giving your DH a blow job? Not a joke, honestly, it's the prostaglandins in semen that stimulate the cervix and there is some evidence that they are more effective taken orally! That is a semi-serious suggestion.

Otherwise I second the cumin tea.

Having said thatt, mine came 10 days and 12 days after their due date respectively. Sorry, but having reflected on this at length I am pretty sure that nothing really makes a baby be born until the baby is ready. That and the mother being really and truly ready - even if she thinks she is there might be something niggling, worries about the other kids, what it will be like to have thre children, whatever. So what about you - are you truly ready? Sometimes a good old cry and a heart to heart with someone you trust can be all you need to get things moving.

Good luck and all the best for the birth.

greenday · 18/12/2006 17:24

The greasiest fish and chips you can find. It works, seriously! My local FnC people have had many success stories to their name (mine being one).

BingCrosby · 18/12/2006 17:25

MrsMalumbas...i think someone has been having you on........

lulumama · 18/12/2006 17:27

NOTHING WILL WORK UNLESS YOU AND BABY ARE READY
SOME BABIES NEED TO COOK FOR 42 WEEKS !!!

SORRY!

but in all seriousness, sex, (oral too....but i personally think a man thought that up.....) , orgasm and nipple stim can help...

but nothing guaranteed

but i do agree partially with mrs malumbas re being psychilogically ready..i had a list of things to do before baby came, crossed the last one off the list, forewaters (or was it hind waters?) went a couple of hours later. woke up in labour the next day.......

some babies need to be late...bearing in mind that a normal preg can be anything from 38 -42 weeks....

lulumama · 18/12/2006 17:29

beleive ,me, if there was a guaranteed way, someone somewhere would be making a fortune from it!!

hard not to get hung up on the EDD...but it is an estimated not definite due date xx

incy · 18/12/2006 17:39

I tried the lot (yes everything) and nothing worked - DS was 2 weeks late

However DS was a very placid baby and I was told this was often the case with late babies - so relish the thought of an 'easy' baby.
