I am 40+2 today...

Quite surprised as DS1 came bang on his due date and I thought second babies were likely to come earlier! Absolutely no signs of anything happening so far...

Consultant wants to book me in for an induction next Monday but I think I'd rather wait it out until I get to 42 weeks (please God don't let me get to 42 weeks!).

Anyone else want to join the thread and keep me company?!

Hi Anna sorry you find yourself in the same boat. DS came at 40+2 as well so no idea why this one is playing silly buggers. 40+7 does seem very early to induce, I'd be tempted to ask for a few more days unless they have good reason?

austen pleased you feel so positive, birth experience is so much about state of mind, I need to sort mine out!

eiys also heart set on a natural delivery but it's looking less and less likely - he's still floating around in there and not even near the pelvis according to the midwife who tried to do my sweep tonight. I've now been prepped about what to do in case my waters go naturally (in case of cord prolapse) but it's looking increasingly like it's a hospital birth on Tuesday. We sadly TFMR our first baby who was very poorly with a rare disorder so I've always had quite a fear of going into hospital to have things 'done' to me, rather than 'doing' myself. I suppose I'm just lucky to have had an active birth with DS between the two which was very healing, need to focus and get my head in the game!

Hi all I can officially join you on the overdue bench..bah. Only 1 day over but 6 out of 8 of our nct group have had their babies now, as well as a relative, so I am just feeling well and truly fed up now.

Have had a few positive signs that could be something but likely to be nothing:

  • increasingly 'heavy' feeling when I walk.
  • fanny daggers with baby's head bouncing on cervix
  • occasional nausea after eating main meal (I know, clutching at straws)
  • a few cramps/backache pains.
  • weird 'pushing' feeling last night (see other thread)

But no noticeable Braxton hicks, cramps are not regular and I guess at my size the bump will feel heavy after walking for any length of time!

So am feeling quite despondent now that I will be like this for another 10 days then need an induction. Just want him to come now Sad

An update! DD has finally arrived at 40+13!

After my last post everything seemed to stall, then at 1am this morning I started to get proper contractions. Had a huge show half an hour later and went to hospital. Was only 1cm dilated and three hours later was only 3cm, after some quite painful contractions which were pretty close together. Having been adamant I wanted a completely natural birth, I started demanding a C section and every drug going!

Got an epidural straight away which was a great relief. I honestly could not have done without it - hats off to anyone who does, I am in awe!

After the epidural, I dilated from 3cm to 10cm in about 3 hours, no syntocinon required. Then spent nearly 2 hours pushing (not fun my epidural was only really working on one side of me so could feel everything) and had a ventouse for the last few contractions. DD popped out at 1pm, very pink and healthy, weighing 9lb 2 ounces with an enormous head!

Good thing about them being overdue is that they do seem much sturdier and stronger and able to eat and sleep well.

Very pleased the long wait is over and we very narrowly avoided induction/section!

Good luck to the rest of you - looking forward to hearing your stories!

Congratulations Dimple!! Worth waiting and good point about overdue babies being sturdier - will hold on to that and the hope that mine will be a good sleeper as I wait and wait over the next few days...

Pizdets · 22/11/2015 22:03

Simple amazing news so pleased for you! Doesn't sound like the most straightforward birth but you have taken it in your stride and great you avoided induction/c section.

coffee honestly I'd try not to stress about any of this yet. The likelihood is that your baby will show up in the next week or so. I found it hard going overdue as DS was on time but to be honest I wish I'd relaxed more in that first week as this second week overdue is really horrible and it's just dragged the whole thing out! With DS I had no signs at all that he was about to come, cervix was closed and posterior at my 40 week check and on 40+1 my waters went and he came! Still hoping this baby shows up tonight or tomorrow but with the deadline looming so close optimism is fading now.

Congrats dimple!!! Another lovely sturdy baby on this thread Smile I hope you are recovering well abs enjoying your newborn snuggles!

brokencrayons · 23/11/2015 10:00

Today is my due date. 3rd baby. Previous babies late comets too, so should've seen this coming really! But still no better at handling the mind fog :(

eiysmummyc · 23/11/2015 10:22

BIG BIG congratulations Dimple!! What lovely news! Hope your enjoying your newborn snuggles!!

CoffeeAndOranges · 23/11/2015 13:32

Thanks pizdets I did type out a reply to you this morning but it sounded so self-pitying I didn't post it!!

I'm currently on the sofa starting to watch Mad Men as have never seen it and it's on the Now box. Trying not to analyse whether or not I am having stomach cramps or I just need the loo..Hmm

annatha · 24/11/2015 00:08

Congratulations dimple! I've heard a few people say similar things about overdue babies, I hope it rings true for us all! Midwife today told me that he feels big so although I'm not looking forward to pushing him out I'm happy that he'll be a good size.

Didn't get induced after all, after a v stressful weekend hoping baby would arrive I went in to hospital today and managed to speak to another consultant who is happy to push induction back to 40+11 giving me a few more days to see if he'll arrive by himself. Consultant had no idea why I was booked for induction at 40+7 either. These past few days I've had light cramps on and off and lots of mucus/plug (tmi sorry!) as well as a fair bit of pressure in my pelvis so hopefully things are starting.

Pizdets · 25/11/2015 08:53

Hello! Induction last night, only needed the pessary and had a fairly short active labour (4cm to birth in about 2 hours!) with just gas and air. Baby boy was born weighing an impressive 10lbs 1oz and does seem much more alert than his due date big brother. Feeding etc all going well so far.

Best of luck to those of you still to go. I was distraught at the idea of induction but it was actually fine and probably a better experience than my spontaneous birth! Look forward to hearing more stories soon!!

CoffeeAndOranges · 25/11/2015 11:03

Congratulations pizdets that's great to hear! I went for a sweep yesterday and she couldn't quite do one as she said the opening to the cervix was a bit far back for her to reach, but that she could feel the head low down and the right way around. Also the cervix was beginning to get soft. So I was pleased that things were on the right track.

Even though it wasn't a sweep, I felt a bit dodgy last night, and have spent most of the night awake with what started out as random crampy feelings and strong baby movements, along with..ahem..some loose bowels. Between about 4 and 7 am the cramps came and went every 8-9 minutes regularly. It's died away a bit, although the cramps are still coming and going. Oh yeah I've also had a bit of a bloody show.

I know this could last for several days but am bouncing on my ball and hoping things ramp up again soon, although I may have to try and have a nap first! Just hope it doesn't stop entirely...

annatha · 25/11/2015 18:13

Baby boy arrived this morning weighing 9lb 12, 9 days late!

CoffeeAndOranges · 25/11/2015 18:28

Congratulations!

I am now having contractions 5-7 mins apart, tens machine on and hoping this is it!

TakesTwoToTango · 25/11/2015 18:35

Congrats puzzlers and Annatha!!!! Good luck coffee and oranges.

eiysmummyc · 25/11/2015 22:45

My little boy arrived yesterday at 1pm weighing a healthy 8lb 10oz. Congrats to everyone else that's met their little bundles over the past few days and good luck to those who are still hanging on in there!

BuggerLumpsAnnoyed · 26/11/2015 08:04

40+6 today. Was glad of the lateness due to having my driving test (which I failed) yesterday. Now just want to get going! Congratulations to all those who have had their babies and hang in there to the rest of us!

brokencrayons · 27/11/2015 02:41

Oooh coffee and oranges! This could well be it for you :D
40+4 today and not a stitch of labour symptoms. I'm gutted here!!!

CoffeeAndOranges · 27/11/2015 10:35

It was it for me - baby boy born via emcs, 9lb 6oz after hours and hours of labour , an epidural and a syntocinon drip which didn't make me dilate enough. Hard work but worth it for the little fella currently lying skin to skin on my chest Smile

TakesTwoToTango · 27/11/2015 17:27

Congrats coffee and mummy! Good luck to the others hanging in there!

brokencrayons · 28/11/2015 21:02
