Reduced movements at 27 weeks

I know that the best advice will be to get checked out but I just want to know if anyone else experienced anything similar.
I'm 27 weeks with my first baby and from 22 weeks had been feeling loads of movement.
This peaked last week where even through my clothes we were seeing full on kicks. We would lie on the sofa and play music and watch it kicking my phone off my tummy.
On Friday I barely felt a thing.
On Saturday I woke up feeling like I couldn't breathe. It was like the baby had suddenly shifted really high up and was crushing me. I couldn't even drive I had to get my husband to so I could recline the passenger seat. I didn't feel any movement Saturday.
I used the doppler yesterday (sunday) and babies heart beat is still there and still what it usually is (140-155) which is the only reason really that I've not taken myself off to hospital.
This morning i have felt a very very small amount of movement but it's more in my back I still can't feel anything in my tummy as such. I've tried all the advice they say to get it moving and nothing works, all I'm feeling is just a very faint thud deep inside me.
is it possible the baby has flipped over and if so is it now unlikely that I'll feel movements?
I don't want to waste the hospitals time because there is still a heart beat and I don't see what they'll do different there if I go down?
Any advice would be appreciated

Hi there, I had the Same with my little lady, she was a brutal kicker and a serial mover then one day she stopped i went to the hospital and they hooked me up to a Monitor.. As the midwife went to put it on my stomach she gave an almighty kick and would not stop again! I tried all the typical things to get her going and nothing worked! The nurse said sometimes baby gets them selfs into a very comfortable position and they will stay there and as they have moved you may not notice them as much as they are not "normal" or as your used to feeling them Personally I would just go for peace of mind as everyone is different and every baby is different.. Only you will know.
Hopefully that helped and all is ok x

CarrotPuff · 12/10/2015 11:44

I don't mean to scare you but if there's a problem the heart will be the last thing to go. The advice is to go in if you have reduced movements, and it's been 3 days of that. Please go in, you are not wasting anyone's time, that's what they are there for.

Jellybean100 · 12/10/2015 12:02

So would you only go to hospital if there's no heartbeat on your monitor? It's a bit late then. A hand held Doppler will tell you what your babies heart rate is doing at that time. You can't see the other things that midwives look out for on a CTG which tell them the overall picture of babies wellbeing. If you listened in and heart rate is 180 or 80, it's a bit too late then too, damage would already be done to your little one.
If you are having reduced movements, you need to see a midwife.

ALR123 · 12/10/2015 12:03

Oh really I didn't know that. I'm worried now, just waiting for the midwife at the hospital to call me back to see what she says.
Cgow I'm glad everything was okay for you.
I'll let you know what they say

"I don't want to waste the hospitals time"

You won't be wasting the hospital's time. MWs would rather see 100 babies who are fine (moved, inexplicable quiet patch, whatever) than miss one which might need intervention.

Do you have a walk-in assessment unit? If so, how soon can you get to it?

Or ring your MW now.

AuntieStella · 12/10/2015 12:07

Sorry, cross-post (slow tying).

Most of the time, everything is fine. So don't move to panic stations, as it is possible it's just a case of weird re-positioning. But it is important that you're seen, so that someone who is qualified and can do all the checks they think are necessary and can properly assess what's going on.

Fraggleyourock · 12/10/2015 12:07

I would go in, everything might well be perfectly fine! But better to be safe! Good luck!

ALR123 · 12/10/2015 12:25

I just rang the maternity assessment unit and spoke to one of the midwife's. She said because I'm only 27 weeks they won't do anything... They only do the monitoring from 28 weeks +. She said if I go down all they'll do is use a doppler and she said because I've already done this it sounds like a waste of time!

Never rely on the heartbeat being ok. Whenever you have a change or reduction in movement, call you mw. They will not mind at all to check you. Hope all is well.

ALR123 · 12/10/2015 12:26

Also my midwife doesn't work Mondays Sad so I can't even speak to her..

Have you drank a really cold drink and lie on your side.

WhatKatyDidnt · 12/10/2015 12:29

I would go to the maternity unit and ask to be checked. That midwife sounds unhelpful at best, negligent at worst.

spanisharmada · 12/10/2015 12:30

Really? I'm surprised by their response tbh! But, I've had this with 2 of mine, both times they were kicking into my back which was why the movement I felt was so reduced. It might well be that. If its still the same the day you turn 28 weeks I'd call back and insist on going in for a trace. Don't be shy!

spanisharmada · 12/10/2015 12:31

Scrap that do what Katy said

JellyCurls · 12/10/2015 12:37

Get checked out please. I had reduced movements all the way through my last pregnancy from about 26 weeks. Hospital were always happy to see me. In the end I had an EMCS at 40 weeks as baby wasn't doing great. He's a hulking big 2yr old now though with no issues. Trust your instinct, better to be checked 100 times and have nothing wrong than to not get checked and there be an issue. Good luck x

Jellybean100 · 12/10/2015 12:48

Wow I'm shocked at the midwifes response, that's disgusting. Some hospitals arrange scans for first episodes of reduced fetal movements. To rely on a home hand held Doppler is completely negligent of the midwife

CarrotPuff · 12/10/2015 13:09

That's appalling. I would call them back and say you are worried and insist you get checked out. Or just turn up there. I don't think they would just shut the door in front of your nose...

Fraggleyourock · 12/10/2015 13:11

That's shocking! My hospital will monitor at any point after definite movements have been felt. I would have insisted on being monitored!

ALR123 · 12/10/2015 13:19

I called them back and they just reiterated what they already told me and then said they'll put me through to the community midwives office voicemail who may be able to arrange to see me ... I've just left a msg there but it says they'll contact you within 48 hrs! It's starting to stress me out now :( I just don't want to turn up at the maternity ward after being told twice not to by them as I'm not 28 weeks it's a waste of time!

5BlueHydrangea · 12/10/2015 13:23

Go there, unlikely they will turn you away. Or go to A and E and they could refer you round. Depends what you have in your area.
Hope all ok but always safest to get checked out. 27 weeks baby is viable so should be checked.

sizethree · 12/10/2015 13:27

You know yourself and you know your baby. Trust your instincts and insist you get seen.

Waitingimpatient · 12/10/2015 13:29

Go to the hospital and if you have to, demand to be seen. If they can't monitor with ctg they can scan instead

I would just go I was lucky mine were understanding, I did feel like I was wasting time but like I said only you know your baby! They are there to help you understandably there busy but you need to be checked over! That's one thing mine did say is no matter how minor the change is always have it checked. Better to be on the safe side, just go down there and demand to be seen ... Don't take no for an answer x
