Keeping lady garden tidy

I´m 30 weeks pregnant and can´t even see my bits anymore to attend there. Sorry for the question, but did any of you bother to maintain your hair down there before you gave birth/gyno visits? I´m used to just keeping it neat, no waxing/imaccing.

Shall I just let it grow wild? I don´t want to end up a) cutting myself badly/ b) ending up with a dodgy brazilian.

Thoughts?

"was soooo glad i was very tidy."

Can I ask why?

Murloc · 05/10/2015 20:45

I shaved before DD was born, and now I've got some lovely truly Godawful and hideous pubes growing out of the C-section scar, where they've been stitched in. Don't do it. If there had been a full bush, the surgeon might have had a better chance to avoid it!

SpendSpendSpend · 05/10/2015 21:18

Bert

I feel very ashamed of having a hairy lady garden.

I ve been brought up that hairy legs on women etc is disgusting and unsexy.

I feel ashamed if anyone sees my hairy legs etc.

If i go to the gp with a problem down there and i havent had time to shave etc, i feel extremely embarassed and apologise to the gp for seeing me like that.

5madthings · 05/10/2015 21:22

I get dh to do it, I just keep it trimmed neat and short, I find it easier when dealing with bleeding either period or post birth, if I left it natural the hair would get um clotty...

Anyway its personal preference but don't feel you need to do anything as the midwife etc will not care! They have seen it all and more.

Skiptonlass · 05/10/2015 22:12

I was specifically instructed to not shave or wax pre c section. It increases the risk of infection so here they are very keen on you staying au natural!

I generally neglected. Once or twice I trimmed.

Healthcare providers have seen things you can't even imagine ;) as long as you're clean they don't care.

Bunnykins15 · 05/10/2015 22:22

I've worked on a labour ward and I can assure everyone that midwives/doctors really have seen it all and are not fazed by anything! I've seen immaculately waxed and mahoosive bush, I don't think it really matters (although can see that regrowth could cause some itching issues). From experience those coming in for elective section tended to be the most 'groomed', perhaps because they can 'pre plan'

I plan to get DH to trim me once I get too fat to do it myself (as I like a neat bush) but won't get too upset if it's too difficult or too much bother. I'd rather be a bit hairy than have scissor cuts thanks to an incompetent groomsman :-)

MrsPCR · 05/10/2015 22:35

LaraCroft DH helps this theory by not knowing if I'm wearing make up and actually having to ask if I still need to put my face on before a party! Haha!

Bertrand this is just due to my major aversion to any hair which started when I was about 7 and resulted in me shaving my legs from 9 bc I thought my hairy legs were the most horrible thing ever. There was nothing that influenced this, I just found my fair haired legs repulsive. I would look at other girls and thought their legs were fine with hair, but was not an option for me. No idea why bc at that age, no one had ever commented. It's only an anxiety bc it's not talked about openly, either way.

Flambola · 06/10/2015 02:30

Fucking hell Murloc, really?!

I can't be arsed doing anything down there at the moment. I might just give myself a little trim but definitely no to shaving or waxing.

spanisharmada · 06/10/2015 02:49

I shave the sides and use a bikini trimmer to keep the rest short at the mo, am 38 weeks so been doing it blind for a while.
I swim a few times a week so that's why, plus I find a big bush really uncomfortable.

Murloc · 06/10/2015 08:03

Flambola - sadly, yes. Proper wiry ones, poking out of the scar like they're proud to be there. Vile.

I'm hoping that if I have another section this time the buggers will disappear!

Doublebubblebubble · 06/10/2015 09:54

Oh good god!
I required a winch and several mirrors to do mine the other day (I'm 40+2 i was 40 weeks when I did it) wish I was a contortionist but with a massive bump in the way I'm not sure how much it would help really. it is legitimately the hardest thing I've done in a while (because its been a while I was too embarrassed to go to my usual lady so just shaved. I also managed to shave my legs but it was very much a half arsed job and I can feel stubbly bits that I didn't manage to get!! (I was hoping it might put me in labour but nope)

brookeberry · 06/10/2015 10:07

Grin loving this thread! I am only 12 wks have have my dating scan this afternoon - I'm quite nervous and this has just given me the big smile I need!! Happy trimming! Smile

Whatevva · 06/10/2015 10:20

Blimey - never shaved a thing before I had DC! Pubes were very curly and stayed neat. Shame they don't now Sad

Fourfifthsof · 06/10/2015 11:31

I let mine grow out 70s style when I was pregnant - out of sight, out of mind! I had good intentions and it is possible with DH hair clippers and a complex set up if mirrors but it's a pain. Literally a pain the more pregnant you get! In the end though I needed a c section so DH had the job of giving me a shirt back and sides. Lucky man. Wink

Fourfifthsof · 06/10/2015 11:31

Short back and sides Blush

SmashleyHop · 06/10/2015 11:51

I'm only 21 weeks at the moment and am starting to struggle a bit. I think I'm just going to shave the sides and keep everything else short if I can. I have crazy long thick hair which is great on the top of my head.. not so great down below if you know what I mean. My poor midwife would need to give me a serious center part if I let it go! Grin

cloudjumper · 06/10/2015 13:12

I was under the impression that if you need any 'intervention' down there during birth, they will shave it for you anyway - they need to get to your skin! I had an EMCS with DS and went in completely ungroomed, and they definitely got the razors out. Ingrowing hairs couldn't be avoided, it's just one of those things.

My question would be - is hair removal cream a big No-No? My skin has become so sensitive, when I get it waxed, they end up taking the top layer of skin off! Shaving makes it sooo stubbly... So wondering if I could do Veet, anyone know?

LoveChickens · 06/10/2015 13:14

Haha all the feminists will try to rip you a new one about this, just laugh them off that's what I do!

I didn't want a big bush either. Well I never have. I had a couple of waxes.

Whatevva · 06/10/2015 13:15

The bits I had stitched up did not have any hair on them anyway Hmm

I had a vaginal op recently, and the same applied. No need to shave anything.

Depends what you mean by intervention. They may shave you for a section, depending on where they need to get to. They don't for other types of intervention. As someone else said, the bits that might tear in a vaginal delivery aren't hairy!

BertrandRussell · 06/10/2015 13:46

"Haha all the feminists will try to rip you a new one about this, just laugh them off that's what I do!"

Good lord. Wouldn't a sensible discussion be so much better?

LoveChickens · 06/10/2015 14:56

Yes I agree, not moaning at people for what you think about pubic hair would be a start.

BertrandRussell · 06/10/2015 15:07

Well if that was aimed at me I haven't moaned.

I am, presumably, allowed to be sad that a woman would actually be ashamed of her pubic hair, and feel the need to apologise to her doctor for having any? And to be sad that another woman finds her pubic hair "disgusting"?

And to wonder why the fuck we got to this position?

Whatevva · 06/10/2015 15:13

Disagree with that evolution of the bush/beard thing. Beards were very much around in the 1970s.

I visited a maternity unit in 1980/1 ish where they still did bath, shave and enema before you were allowed in Hmm which was behind the times. At least you get to choose now, but I would hate to think people would be obliged to shave their hair off in this day and age.

I remember seeing something in soviet Russia where they were not only shaved, but covered in iodine and left in stirrups to labour too Sad.
