39 + 6 weeks pregnant, 1st baby, has a show this morning

I was having frequent braxton hicks without pain. But since last night started to have painful ones for 20-30 seconds every 5 minutes and then 30-40 seconds every 2 minutes. Every part below the boobs started to get more painful until about 6 am this morning. After that it slowed down and started having mild pains and had a show at 9:40 am this morning. Anyone experienced similar situation and went into labour, if so after how long? Now I am just alert all the time, thinking is it happening now or will it happen tonight and cannot focus on anything. If you share your experience, would be helpful. Thanks!

Why no paracetamol? Have I missed something? That's the first thing the labour ward will tell you to do.

I agree to ring them, you must be exhausted!

Roseybee10 · 20/07/2015 09:26

Hope you're ok.
Do you know what position the baby is in? My labour was very like this with dd1 as she was back to back. My contractions never got regular until I was fully dilated.

I also never really got into proper labour either time until I rested properly. My contractions would slow down until I slept.

girliefriend · 20/07/2015 09:30

As this has been going on a few days now I would want labour ward to check me and baby over tbh, good luck hope all is going well Flowers

Shasha123 · 20/07/2015 13:22

@BBQueen I have been expressing colostrum for baby just in case if there will be any problem. It does bring contraction but has never been strong. Just mild to moderate. Contacted midwife again, she suggested to try acupuncture. So considering it.

Although today is my due date I shouldn't be worrying too much but the contractions has been started 5 days ago and without sleep I am totally worn out. 5 days, day and night just constant contractions, not leading to labour is really disappointing.

It's hard going when you can't get any sleep. Can you doze between contractions? X

BifsWif · 20/07/2015 14:14

I would ring the labour ward and ask to be checked. Again, non of my labours had regular contractions, but things progressed fairly quickly.

Honestly, I would pop and get checked over.

Shasha123 · 20/07/2015 14:58

@Roseybee10 I try to but no success, after few minutes the contraction begins and wakes me up :(

I know you want a home birth but honestly you sound knackered all ready! Please listen to the advice to get yourself checked over, baby might start stressing after 5 days of no rest and mild contractions.

I don't want to scare you with my birth story but it started in a similar way and my dd ended up in distress Sad ring the labour ward and see what they say.

Shasha123 · 20/07/2015 15:04

@BifsWif I am so scared of hospitals so planning for home birth. I am worried if I ring them they might tell me to come and eventually end up having caesarean which I definitely don't want. But I might have to consider it at some point I guess. I will hang on there as far as I can. Coming Friday MW is visiting for check up, if things doesn't progress by Friday, then might have to think of other options.

girliefriend · 20/07/2015 16:14

They don't do caesareans without good reason ime, more important that you have a healthy mum and baby!

I would ring them and get checked over as if baby is struggling better to find out sooner rather than later.

Have you got a partner with you?

BifsWif · 20/07/2015 19:22

My don't have to do anything you don't want to do. If they suggest any intervention, which im sure they won't, you have the right to ask questions and make a decision.

Could you maybe just call the hospital and speak to a midwife? See what they say?

Roseybee10 · 20/07/2015 19:35

Would your home birth mw not come out again to see how things are? X

ovumahead · 20/07/2015 19:45

It's Monday. You can't wait til.Friday to get yourself and baby checked! Really hope things are progressing more now. If not please get checked. I agree hospitals are horrible but a distressed baby is worse!

Roseybee10 · 20/07/2015 19:58

There's no reason to suggest baby will be distressed so please don't panic. Maybe just phone for some advice to put your mind at rest x

ovumahead · 20/07/2015 20:22

Any deterioration in the mothers health can cause issues for both mother and baby
Exhaustion can lead to dehydration, ketoacidosis, etc. I would recommend going and getting checked even if she only.consents to getting her urine checked and fetal heart rate monitored for a short while. She can always just walk straight back out if all is well! And equally refuse any form of treatment if they advise it. No harm in getting checked.

Shasha123 · 21/07/2015 06:27

Today more left over show came off, since the early morning contraction comes and goes away every minute. Baby is moving a lot like kind of digging down. I thought she's going to drop outside so inserted my middle finger inside the vagina and I think I can touch her head. Tummy is staying stiff. Something weird and different today. Might ring the MW.

BifsWif · 21/07/2015 06:33

Please call and get checked, especially if you think you can feel her head.

Ilovenannyplum · 21/07/2015 06:37

Second that, call your midwife. Good luck OP x

YouBastardSockBalls · 21/07/2015 07:40

Call your midwife asap or go in to hospital.
You can't take chances with stuff like this.
Are you still feeling normal movements?

Roseybee10 · 21/07/2015 08:28

Definitely call your mw and get her to come out. My home birth mw came out to check me in early labour and it wasn't a problem x

ovumahead · 21/07/2015 10:45

Your home birth midwife should definitely come out
Say you can feel the head.
Sounds like you may actually be rather close to giving birth. Time to let go of denial!

ovumahead · 21/07/2015 17:46

Hmmmm now I'm wondering if things have actually kicked off?! I hope all is well! Thinking of you Flowers

Ilovenannyplum · 21/07/2015 18:06

I was thinking the same thing!

girliefriend · 21/07/2015 20:58

Really hope Shasha is o.kay and listened to our advice!!
