I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Mirabel Good, that is hopeful. As others say, don't hesitate to go to A and E if you get very ill again.
nocuts Is there another chemists? The irony is, if you don't admit to being pregnant you can get cyclezine over the counter, though it is proven safe in pregnancy, you can't if you are. I do feel for you; it is a horrible decision to have to make.
Great advice from Meerka
Chops Oh dear. Are you back at work full time, next week? As others say, any chance of Dr writing a note for the staggered return to be extended.
Kayme You and Barmee deserve medals for courage. Barmee Oh dear, it sounds as if it is setting in early, and I can only agree it looks as if stronger meds are needed. Iced lollies, flat coke, the juice of tinned fruit, and those staples no use at all meanwhile?
Lilac That is happy news.
Waves to eallison and everyone...

eallison and others: Sympathy over annoying need to pee in the night. There's only one thing worse than that; that's not being able to pee at all!

Argh! Took me ages to locate our thread again! Just making sure my stupid phone remembers in on here then I'm going to catch up on all that's been happening. Hope everyone is doing ok

Mrsm14 · 07/07/2015 23:25

Hi all, hope you're all doing ok. Thank god it's been raining a bit here and the temperature has cooled off a bit.

lilac I'm managing a bit more food now but still feels like such an effort. Having a small bowl of bran flakes for breakfast but the rest of the day is bread and biscuits and I really struggle to eat anything by dinner time. Just have no energy and my skin feels horrid and generally feel unhealthy. I'm grateful the puking has subsided a lot but I just cannot wait to be able to have a glass of water or a vegetable (or a cheeseburger! !) I'm nearly 9 weeks so guessing it might be quite a while longer till I can hope for this though right?

Getting a bit better at coping with the boredom but yesterday went for a brief walk around the block and ended up out of breath and retching and just brought me back down again a bit. I normally eat loads and exercise and all I've done for 2 weeks now is lie on a sofa or in bed. Sorry for the moan, know I should be grateful for any improvements at this stage but I just want to eat a normal meal and get out of the house!

kayme · 07/07/2015 23:44

Mrsm14 poor you sounds like it's still a big struggle. Just take it a day at a time you have been really ill so it will take a while to recover. I remember my first pregnancy when I was house bound so I'll for months I could not leave the house. It makes it even harder when it's too early to tell people. Do watch your weight and keytones you can't be getting many calories. Every day that passes is another day closer. I'm almost 11 weeks heard the babies heart beat it made the sickness seem more worthwhile. Just do what ever you can to pass the time. Good luck hope every week brings a little improvement.

elizabethsmum · 08/07/2015 07:11

welcome to those new to the thread and so sorry to those suffering badly at the moment.
crosses fingers for those struggling to get adequate meds- the postcode lottery and patchy care is so bloody unfair and just adds to the misery of hg.

nocuts no judgement here whatsoever - i have been through hg twice and after a tummy bug a couple of days ago I am fairly confident in saying I could not cope with it again (neither financially or emotionally as well- we already have 3 dc as second pg was dts so dh definitely wouldn't cope). good luck xxx

good advice from meerka 're over counter meds- pity ondansetron cannot be purchased in this way. am I right in thinking someone sent you some meerka?? does anyone have any stockpiled and no longer needed but still in date???

LucindaE · 08/07/2015 11:27

Goodness, Laura. So sorry you were lost. It is so awkward, but I have to start a new thread every 1,000 posts, that being the limit. If only it could go on, it would be so much less confusing. Also, it has often occcured to me that for a student specialist in Hyperemesis, on these threads there is a long document of the dismal suffering and frequently inadequate treatment. All I can do is link the new thread at the top of the old one. It's all very confusing. I hope you are dong OK? - relatively?
Mrsm14 It is awful having to lead the lifestyle of a sickly Victorian lady, lying on sofas, eating almost nothing...makes me wonder if they hadn't got very bad pregnancy sickness a lot of the time, now I come to think of it.
Sympathies. How much liquid can you take in at a time?
eallison Did they offer you physio for the spd or was it you who was put off about it?
Greetings to lovely elizabethsmum and Meerka.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

Skiptonlass · 08/07/2015 12:10

Hi all,

I had severe sickness for the first 4 months. It seemed to ease off a bit (only being sick once or twice a day) after that but now im 25 weeks and I'm having an awful day. Over the last week or so I've been feeling worse and worse. Has anyone else experienced this and is it likely to get as bad as it was before? (Please say it won't!)

I also have spd. This is a very much wanted baby but my goodness, he's making me suffer! Midwife visit yesterday showed all screening parameters (bp, measurements, Hb, sugars etc) absolutely fine. Nearly puked in her bin though :(

eallison88 · 08/07/2015 12:17

Have been offered physio lucinda had one apt so far. She basically said that all the exercises I'm doing are the right things, not to sit down for long and keep my legs together. That was nhs and I've decided to see a private chiropractic off my own back, after recommendation from a friend. Had an assessment last night, she basically said that out of the 30 points that they assess, my body failed on 19 of them! Some pre pregnancy issues which have been made worse others direct result of pregnancy.

Pregnancy is hard.

LucindaE · 08/07/2015 12:50

eallison Chiropracters can be great; I used to see one about migraines.
Lo, sorry, but I have a coarse sense of humour, and did she really use that phrase with a straight face? Grin. It isn't easy to do that anyway, surely, though, as you swell out?
Skiptonlass The name seems familiar; were you on earlier in your pregnancy? Poor you; unfortunately, it does come sneaking back in the third tri for many, but almost never as badly as in the first tri. Were you on meds? It sounds nasty if you were nearly sick in her bin (it might have been a good idea to do that, as people do find it makes an impression that you are not exaggerating). Were you on meds earlier? Could you get back on them?

Had growth-scan today... to our relief baby's measuring big, at top end of his ideal range on charts! Smile Sonographer estimated he'll be 9-10lbs at full-term!!
So to all ladies worrying about their baby getting enough nutrients/calories, it seems HG babies really do find ways to absorb everything they need to grow! I lost loads of weight in first trimester, became very underweight and continued to vomit violently throughout 2nd trimester (DH was in constant state of anxiety over my weight-loss and terrified baby would suffer, so it was lovely to see his face at scan today when they gave us baby's measurements!)

Lucinda great image of sickly Victorian lady lying on sofa all day, that's exactly how I felt for months. I wanted to get out but felt too sick, faint and ill to stray far from bed or sofa. Glad we don't have to wear corsets nowadays!

Mrs.M I really sympathise with the boredom. Sorry you had a bad experience on the walk! Until recently I was stuck indoors all day every day. DH used to nag me to 'go for a nice walk in the sun' when I was still in really grim stages, he didn't understand that this 'nice walk' involved lots of retching into hedges! Back then everything seemed to trigger nausea! Even things like sun on my face or litter blowing across street could make me sick, and I couldn't look at revolving doors or moving traffic or tolerate DH moving his hands around when he spoke. Swirly or busy patterns also made me very nauseous, there's a carpet in GP surgery I couldn't look at for months!! This gradually got better, and now I'm fine with being out and about as long as I don't over-do it. I think the key is pacing yourself... it's ok to stay indoors resting until you feel ready and well enough to start going out.
At 9 weeks you might not have long to wait until you start improving, many people improve dramatically at end of first trimester.

Chops hope you're managing ok at work! Can you stay on the reduced hours next week if you need to? Glad you had a nice time at the carnival parade. Makes you feel so much better to have a nice outing!

Nocuts how are you feeling now? Sorry you're in such a difficult situation. Try ringing your GP and saying you need an urgent appointment, most surgeries release same-day appointments if you phone on the day (they usually have a few slots if you ring when they first open). Sounds like you really need some strong anti-sickness meds! Must be awful having a UTI and IBS on top of everything else.

Kayme it's inspiring to know your sickness got v.slightly better with each pregnancy. I've always been keen to have 3 DC so it seems I'll be going through this HG-hell several times before our family's complete. Hopefully next time I can get on pre-emptive meds early.

Skiptonlass sorry you're having a relapse! I had several relapses in 2nd trimester but none as bad as the 1st trimester and they gradually got shorter and milder. Are you still on meds?

elizabethsmum · 08/07/2015 16:34

lilac glad your scan went well! sounds like junior lilac is doing brilliantly!

eallison you've summed it up - pregnancy is hard- how anyone 'sails through it' or 'blooms' i"ll never know Angry

skipton I remember you! so sorry you are suffering - third trimester relapses are the worst - do you still have any meds? Am I right in thinking you are not in the UK?- have you been having a lot of hot weather recently where you are?- wondering if that's set it off?

waves to lucinda and everyone

elizabethsmum · 08/07/2015 16:38

skipton should have said relapses are the worst in terms of being really depressing but rarely as bad as the first trimester. I did have several during my first pg but they usually lasted about a week and then we're interspersed with 'better' periods. I did go back on meds and stayed on them after a while to try and prevent them. that's why I stayed on cyclizine for three months after sickness had all but finished in second pg as I could not bear relapses (and didn't really have any second time round although it was prob just luck rather than anything else!)

Skiptonlass · 08/07/2015 17:08

I was on earlier, yes. I had a really rough time of it up to about week 16, ended up having to have a drip and all that. After that it got much better - I was still nauseous but not as bad as before and only sick a couple of times a day. The last couple of weeks I've had it slowly come back. I somehow suspect I got a bit overtired and dehydrated in the heat.

Have had a few different meds. Nothing's touched it really. Just felt very low today (work stress, backache, you know the drill I'm sure! )

Hoping it'll damp down a bit. I'm reconciled to the idea of being sick the whole 9 months but I just don't want it to get like it was before!

Elizabeth and lilac - good to know your relapses weren't as bad!

Skiptonlass · 08/07/2015 17:12

Yes, we had a heatwave here too! Really hot for us (over 30) so not quite as bad as the UK was but I'm terrible with heat. Spent the weekend in a cold bath with an ice lolly!

Meerka · 08/07/2015 19:22

eliz'smum someone did send me some ondansetron BLESS THEM - was so so grateful though I hated taking meds without medical supervision. not at all what I wanted to do.

Buuuut Dr Tony at the PSS was willing to write a prescription and get some for me, if I paid for them, and send them out. So it's not impossible to get them, though they are expensive.

laura welcome back!

skipton i got worse towards the end too but still nothing like as bad as in the 1st 14 - 20 weeks. Getting overhot and dehydrated last week could very well have had something to do with the relapse. Dehydration makes you feel sick all on its own, anyway.

lilac lovely to hear your tiny blossom is doing so well!

ealli have you got anything planned just for yourself after the baby is born? We had a visit by two friends planned for the evening I got out of hospital with a giant plate of sushi and a bottle of champagne ... since food was back to normal justabout :) ONly had a tiny bit of champers but ate almost all the sushi Blush

nocuts I hope you'v emanaged to get an emergency appointment and help for the UTI. those are bad enough at the normal time, you really don't need one now.

mrsm do you like colouring or knitting or drawing or any work with the hands? You can get a lot done when you're too ill to move much but have time on your hands ...

and wishing you a quiet evening.

BarmeeMarmee · 08/07/2015 21:46

Hi everyone and thanks for the welcome. Sorry you're suffering again skipton - so horrible to relapse like that.

kayme glad I'm not the only one being crazy enough to do this for a third time.

I've had a much better day today but now I'm worried! Never happy! TMI alert but horrendous diarrhoea last night and cramps and now I'm worried that I haven't felt as nauseous today. Oh dear...

Hope everyone is having a gentle evening.

BarmeeMarmee hopefully the bad tummy will be nothing I had the same thing a couple of weeks ago and was nothing. I agree it's silly I spend all my time feeling sick or being sick if I get a bit of good time I started thinking what if I'm not pregnant anymore! I'm hoping if my body has been through this twice before it can do it again. Really hoping you have a better pregnancy this time I certainly feel I know what I'm doing more and know what I need and want. So I just tell the doctors as it gets to a point when you know more about HG and symptoms than they do.

For those thinking about taking omeprazole make sure you have your medical history checked. Apparently it can do something to your heart rhythm? I was told it would be too dangerous for me to have it because of possible heart problems.

Skiptonlass hopefully it will not be so bad now like you say if your doing more and dehydrated. Also the baby growing take up lots of room. Make sure your still looking after your self.

I must say how great my husband has been he has been working so hard and looking after our kids in the evening when I'm worse he will feed the boys tea and get them to bed. He will even sometimes empty my sick bucket it must be love! He helped me put my pijamas on tonight as I just could not move without being sick, I still was but it was sweet that he tried.

kayme · 08/07/2015 23:07

Sorry guys I wrote omeprazole I ment they would not give me Ondansetron because of my heart. They gave me omeprazole.

BarmeeMarmee · 08/07/2015 23:37

Thanks confusedeio and kayme for the reassurance. Being only 5weeks I guess I'm just conscious of how early days it is...

starrynight123 · 09/07/2015 00:25

Hello! I’m not sure if anyone remembers me; I was on this thread a lot until i had my daughter last August and had no time at all for anything!

I’m slowly feeling better about how awful the pregnancy was, and am hoping to help other women through volunteering with PSS in the next year or so - I don’t feel ready yet.

If it’s okay, I had a question for those ladies who had had their child... Since re-starting my periods a few months ago (my daughter is 11 months old), I find that I get very, very nauseous around the time of my period. I used to be slightly nauseous before my period, but nothing remotely like this. I wondered whether anyone else has experienced anything similar? If so, did it eventually pass, or did you have to see a Dr about it?

I’d really appreciate any advice/experiences that anyone has.

Thank you!!

kayme · 09/07/2015 06:28

starrynight123 I did not feel sick afterwards I did get a marina coil fitted and that stopped my periods. Poor you if your still feeling ill not nice.

Meerka · 09/07/2015 10:42

starry I did get surges of nausea for quite some time after both births but I'm afraid I can't remember if it was worse round the TOTM. Kind of makes sense though, that's when the hormones are flooding your system

Both times the sickness went eventually of its own accord, though being very run down or short of sleep always made it worse. It helped a lot when I was able to try to get fit again, swimming / gym.

How is your daughter? :) Pipsqueak is 14 months now and absolutely into everything, but sweet as sweet.

TwoDrifters · 09/07/2015 10:49

I am going to go to my GP today and ask for meds. I really thought I was over the worst as I had a couple of days of barely being sick (only 2-3 times a day!) But then this week has been really bad again. I'm 14+3 so was hoping it was over :-(
