I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hi LucindaE well I didn't make it in today Blush I think I tried too early. My GP has signed me off again for the rest of the week.

MrsM14 yes yes to the foamy sickness! I think it's when your stomach is already empty but it's so disgusting to deal with isn't it. I hope you get some rest Flowers

eallison88 · 05/08/2015 12:03

Not painless lucinda but doesn't bring tears to my eyes at the moment, so I'm calling that a win! Spending the afternoon with niece and nephews at a play day event at a local park. Hoping there will be seats! Surely people will give seats up for the pregnant lady if I need?!

BarmeeMarmee · 05/08/2015 17:55

Hi Everyone. Hope you're all having an ok day. Sorry you're feeling so bad TwoDrifters. Eallison I will remember the chiropractor if I get spd again this time. Glad it's given you some respite! Lilac, MrsM, how are you both? Apologies anyone I've missed.

I've given in. I've been to the GP and she has signed me off for 2 weeks. Feeling thoroughly miserable but I just can't cope at the moment. The commute is killing me!

eallison88 · 05/08/2015 18:13

You've not given in barmee, you've a sensible decision for you and baby. Glad you can spend the next two weeks resting up and building strength.

LucindaE · 05/08/2015 20:03

BarmeeMarmee and Mrsm14 I am so glad you have been singed off, and nobody with this should think of blaming themselves for doing the sensible thing, as eallison says. eallison Sorry, I obviously misread that - I thought a painless walk sounded a well nigh miraculous piece of manipulation by that chiro...

Mrsm14 · 05/08/2015 22:01

I took today off and am planning on cutting back to half days from tomorrow and seeing if I can cope with that. If it's too tough I'll get signed off again though. Sorry you're in the same boat barmee and twodrifters - how far along are you?

BarmeeMarmee · 05/08/2015 22:03

I'm only 9 weeks MrsM - still a long way to go :(

Mrsm14 · 05/08/2015 22:04

I think it's somehow hit me a bit harder this week as since week 6 I've been telling myself I just need to get to week 14 and now I'm in week 14 and still feeling rubbish. Trying to keep the hope that it will improve!

Mrsm14 · 05/08/2015 22:06

Oh barmee it's rubbish some days isn't it. I did have a good couple of weeks in 10-11 so really hope you get some improvement too x

Mrsm14 · 05/08/2015 22:08

ps had cross posted that one Re my dates, wasn't trying to be insensitive!

TwoDrifters · 06/08/2015 08:25

Mrsm24 Sadly I'm in week 18. Started feeling constant nausea from week 6, started actually being sick from about week 9, wanted to die weeks 11-12, everyone said it'll be better past weeks 12-14 (!), it is a little better but still vomiting daily Sad

At least it's a little easier to stay hydrated at the moment.

How's everyone else today? x

TwoDrifters · 06/08/2015 08:27

Mrsm14 sorry for your name change!

LucindaE · 06/08/2015 10:32

TwoDrifters Even normal MS often lingers well into week fourteen, and this scourge tends to hang about still longer, so don't despair too early! A lot of women on here get relief sometime between weeks 16-20, and others later, and I hope it happens to you really soon. But even for those who don't get a dramatic relief, it still usually gets quite a lot better.
It's a long haul...
I hope everyone is taking it easy today...

Missed the water-birth class Sad It was at hospital yesterday eve, had to book well in advance as it's so popular. I started feeling very nauseous soon as we got to hospital car-park, then we got lost and ended up on wrong side of hospital. I was nearly crying with pain in hips and back, and couldn't face any more walking or the thought of sitting through a 2-hour class when so nauseous as well as in pain. So we came home (which was probably good decision as had a violent vom-session soon as we got in). Just really disappointed as no time to re-book it and really interested in having a water-birth!

MotherOfPearl yes on the home-stretch now! I'm clinging onto the thought of cuddling my new baby soon. On one hand this trimester is easier as pregnancy nearly over, but on the other it's harder due to SPD. Everyday things have become difficult and painful, which brings my mood down and makes the sickness harder to cope with. I've started vomiting in the night a lot too, which is horrible as getting in/out of bed is a struggle!

MrsM how are you? Hope you're having a better day. I became less sensitive to smells around 20weeks, before that I couldn't bear the smell of the fridge and was convinced I could smell rotting olives every time I opened fridge door (there were no olives in it at all)! It's disheartening when you have a good patch then relapse, but I found the relapses got milder and shorter the further on I got. The more I rested, the sooner the good days returned.

Eallison did you get a seat at the play-park? Glad the chiropractor is helping your SPD. I looked into it but worried I'll end up booking sessions then missing them all as sickness so unpredictable. The Physio I saw was lovely but the exercise-programme she set seems to be making pain worse Confused Might give her a ring and see if pain is supposed to get worse before it gets better, don't want to do any damage to pelvis!

eallison88 · 06/08/2015 12:59

lilac I had a good day yesterday so managed some sitting on the floor playing with 7 month old nephew. I spoke to my chiropractor at my initial assessment about the sickness and agreed with her that sometimes I would have to cancel apts cos of sickness and she's been fine with that, no cancellation charges. Worth trying to have that conversation with someone local to you? I'd be really careful with the exercises from physio if stuff is getting worse.

MotherofPearl · 06/08/2015 13:04

Hello all. Barmee, I'm so relieved for you that you've been signed off for a couple of weeks. I know it's frustrating not being able to work, but as Ealli says, maybe it will help you to build up some strength. Hope you're coping.
Lilac, sorry to hear about you missing your water-birth class. HG really does ruin everything (and SPD is not far behind!). Yes focusing on imminent cuddles with your baby does help I think. I also remember that when I felt really low I'd sometimes look at the baby clothes I had ready, to remind myself that it would be worth it, and that HG would end.
MrsM and TwoDrifters, so sorry you're having such a wretched time. As Lucinda says, it can take longer to turn a corner with HG, but even the worst sufferers do eventually see some improvement. It's different for everyone but I think I improved quite a bit from around 20 weeks (even though I was still sick 1-2 times a day).
I'm off on holiday (again!) tomorrow, for 2 weeks, and unsure about internet access when I'm away, so may not be checking in for a while. I am also due to do a PG test this weekend, and while I'd really love a positive result, I worry about being PG and away from home, in case the dreaded sickness kicks in. Considering getting some over-the-counter cyclizine before I leave, just in case...

Daffodil3228 · 06/08/2015 17:42

Hello everyone! Gosh it's nice to feel I am not alone reading some of the posts here. I'm back at work trying to step up my hours. Moved up to 11-5 this week and that extra hour seems to have knocked me out! I said firmly to my boss that I plan to go for 9-5 from next week and he gave me a concerned look. Maybe I need to realise that I can't push through this like other illnesses I've had before. So frustrating though. Don't want to keep having to use annual leave just to sleep! But Melleebacca your way of having Wednesdays off might be the answer for me. I'm knackered and nauseous this week!! Also attempting to see my bf more as I get better and do more interesting stuff than watch him do my washing up or investigate my complaints that there is a terrible smell in the kitchen... This pregnancy wasn't planned so we are growing our relationship with hyperemesis along for the ride which seems totally crazy at times. Ah well I guess it's a good test to look as minging and grumpy as it is possible for a human being to look and he hasn't run off screaming yet!!
mygreeneyed I had the eye thing!! Didn't like bile going into my nose cos it stung so had the genius idea of holding my nose when puking- something weird happened to my left eye it was like all the acid somehow got up there. It killed!! Felt proper sorry for myself. Don't know if it might have been the same for you, acid somehow getting into sinuses or something. Poor thing-v painful. Ice cubes in a towel helped me a bit. And I stopped holding my nose it seemed less painful that way!
MoP wishing you a lovely holiday and keep us updated if you have a positive result! Re meds- I would feel happier if I had some over the counter meds on holiday just in case too, I'd think it is worth the investment for peace of mind!
Hello to everyone else too Smile Xx

Mrsm14 · 06/08/2015 18:21

I managed going back to work this morning and then accidentally fell asleep for 2.5 hours when I got home! daffodil I would second what others have said to me and try not to keep pushing forwards if you're already feeling very tired. I tried stepping up to 6.5 hours this week and promptly ended up off for 2 days puking in the middle of the night. I'm the same as you - want to get back to normal but hg will not have any of it!

lilac my sense of smell is insane. I was in a different room from my husband last night and shouted at him to not eat the smoked sausage thing he had just taken out of the fridge to slice up! I'm normally a big meat eater but pregnancy has turned me off meat completely and I feel like I'm running out of ideas for what to eat, especially since I can only eat most meals once or twice before I go off them. Soooooo frustrating!

LilacWine7 · 06/08/2015 19:07

MotherOfPearl hope you have a lovely holiday! Good luck with the PG test! I agree it helps to look at baby clothes... started packing my hospital-bag today, choosing which clothes to pack for baby really cheered me up Smile

MrsM the smoked sausage story made me smile! I found it hard to eat real meat until around 25 weeks as it smelt and tasted too strong, but was often ok with bland processed meat like chicken-nuggets or turkey-burgers. One smell I still can't stand is tobacco... some of my friends are smokers and I can't get too close to them as the smoky smell makes me think of compost!! It actually smells more like compost than tobacco smoke. I think pregnancy must distort the way our brains process smells!

Daffodil glad you're coping ok. Be careful with doing too many hours at work! I've found HG is impossible to just push through, I tried to do that earlier in pregnancy and it backfired. Hope things continue to go well with your OH. I think it can be a bonding experience despite all the stress and suffering... in the early days my DH struggled to cope with me being so ill, but it forced us to communicate better and support each other. I feel so much closer to him now, like we've been on a difficult journey together.

Mirabal · 06/08/2015 21:13

Haven't been on here for a while. Just head down trying to survive. So sorry to hear about those struggling with work and spd. Sounds really unbearable I don't know how you cope with that on top of hg. I am having battles with gp about prescribing ondansetron. She is very clear that even though the hospital gave me it, she cannot. Trying to chase up faxes between gps and hospital to get consultant to represcribe but no one answers their phone and when they do they just don't want to try to understand what I'm talking about. Driving me nuts. Have to look after dd on my own for first time in ages tomorrow, terrified. Wish me luck. Hope everyone coping x

This thread just popped up in Most Active and I thought I would pop in to say hello - I've had 2 HG pregnancies and DD2 is a year old now and asleep on my lap as I type - I've had a tummy bug today that's nothing compared to HG but has brought back the memory of it.... I just want to say that you are all bloody heroic! The unrelenting misery of HG is almost unbearable and only people who have been there understand. I will be thinking of you all - you will get through this! You will one day be able to open the fridge or go into a cafe without retching! And you'll have a delicious cuddly baby too. Huge hugs and best wishes to everyone - and thanks to Lucinda for keeping this thread, and the women on it, alive! Flowers for everyone!

Mirabal · 06/08/2015 21:40

Also forgot to say that in first pregnancy there was an improvement around the twenty week mark, the vomits definitely reduced. I know it seems ages away when you're week 9. I found it really hard though getting to all the milestones like 12 Weeks. 14 weeks etc when it was supposed to get better and didn't, so maybe ignore that 20 weeks thing! Thanks for link lucinda I might well do some feedback if I can face it

Laura7010 · 06/08/2015 23:35

Just wanted to say hello to all and I hope you are doing well as can be expected. I cheered myself up today and tried to forget about vomiting by making some little dresses :) I'm rather pleased with them and they have cheered me up no end!
I hope everyone going back to work is taking it easy still, don't push it like others say it will take time.
Hope everyone had a vomit free day as possible.
