I had a Nuchal scan today

I wanted to let you all know that I had my private Nuchal scan today, and everything is looking good. The NT measurement was 1.4mm, and there is a nasal bone present, and other markers looked good too. I had a blood test today for biochemical markers, and when I get the results on Tuesday next week, they will give me a risk factor then. I am not worried to be honest, as the results from the scan are similar to DD's.
DD came in with me and DH. The look of amazement on her face when she saw the baby moving on the screen. She was asking the consultant lots of questions too. No, he couldn't tell her if it was a brother or sister yet, no, it didn't have hair and no, he couldn't say what colour the eyes were, but yes, that was it's heart DD could hear.

So pleased for you, GB. It's a lovely feeling, isn't it?

lulumama · 16/11/2006 21:16

Gingerbear · 16/11/2006 21:22

I feel much happier. I don't know why, but I haven't really felt pregnant until now.

I had that.

Ah Ginge,so pleased for you.
Enjoy it all-every last twinge and attack of heartburn!

Grt news Ginger - I had nuchal with my daughter (my 3rd). I have just found out pg again, and am facing all these tests. Sigh. Know exactly what you mean re only feeling pg now.

Enjoy it.

pindy · 17/11/2006 09:08

Fantastic - how old is your dd? She will love telling her db or ds that she saw them on the screen!! X

Gingerbear · 17/11/2006 11:27

Thats the one Moondog, I had it done at Leeds Screening Centre. The consultant was incredibly clued up on the latest developments with NT and blood tests.

Pindy, DD is 4. She was also fascinated about the whys and wherefores of taking a blood sample.

What does 1.4 mm signify? i'm having a nuchal in a few weeks time

Gingerbear · 18/11/2006 21:09

Anything less than 3mm is good news. The thicker the nuchal translucency, the higher the risk of an abnormality.

i go to leeds screening centre infact gerald is my hero!

sarahlouisa · 19/11/2006 19:55

Anyone been to the bristol bupa centre?

Juicylucythe2nd · 20/11/2006 11:33

Gingerbear - know exactly how you're feeling. Had mine last week and get my results today, but also saw nose bone and had low nuchal fold, about the same as yours.

My DH was like your DD!! He was so exited. It was lovely.

Starting to feel like it'll all be ok. Just hope the bloods are as poss as the scan for both of us. xx

MrsMcJnr · 20/11/2006 12:24

Gingerbear and JL2 - so glad things are going well. Jl2 - so, so happy for you!

hub2dee · 20/11/2006 12:53

My blood test results came yesterday. 1:2700 risk of Down's Syndrome, 1:50000 Edward's Syndrome. I will not need an amnio.
I feel very relieved, and fortunate to have a healthy pregnancy at my age.
Best £190 I have ever spent.

notanotter, why is Gerald your hero and why are you going to LSC? Are you PG?

Reassuring numbers. I hope you enjoy the next few months in a lovely calm mindset !

Juicylucythe2nd · 21/11/2006 14:06

Wow, Gingerbear your bloods were even better than mine. I was feeling really chuffed with my 1:1500.

I thought that was good for my age (39).

Lets hope the rest of our pg's go swimmingly from here.

Creena · 21/11/2006 14:40

Hey there, Gingerbear - really pleased to hear that you've had reassuring results. They sound very similar to mine last week (fold measured 1.4mm, nasal bone present, bloods adjusted risk to 1 in 2,618 - not bad for an oldie like me). Your daughter sounds so lovely - perhaps a career in medicine awaits her?!

trace2 · 21/11/2006 19:33

great news gb! am having scan but not bloods,do you think i should have both?

hub2dee · 21/11/2006 19:54

The bloods just enable a more accurate risk factor to be calculated IYSWIM... they add extra factors into the equation so they are better (more accurate) predictors. Personal choice really.

FWIW, we had the combined (NT plus bloods) when dw was pg.

trace2 · 21/11/2006 19:57

thanks may think about having bloods too, when i booked the lady said the bloods made it another 5% more accurate,
