...were your subsequent babies of similar size?

DS was 10lb 4oz. Now pregnant with second and mildly concerned about producing another whopper. Have already had my glucose tolerance test and I'm not even 12 weeks.

I know there's little I can do to avoid another big un, just interested as I've heard second / subsequent babies can be larger panics Confused

This might cheer you up:

DS1 9lb 9oz
DD 6lb 13oz
DS2 6lb 13oz

(I have posted this before but I have a v old pregnancy book by Gordon Bourne, and he says that a woman will have her biggest baby around the age of 35. I had DS1 at 35 . . . )

DC1 9 lb 7 oz
DC2 10 ib 11 oz
DC3 10 lb 12 oz
There is a notion that having bigger babies is easier... I have seen it on many of the 'big baby' threads on here, people saying the bigger ones were easier.
A woman may need forceps with a 6 lber. I had all mine normal deliveries, no stitches.

I think it's down to the size of the baby's head.
My first was 9lb1oz - a giant head and long stringy limbs. Her birth really messed me up.
My second was 9lb8oz but he was a sphere - average size head and a sumo wrestler's body. His birth gave me no trouble, despite scarring from third degree tear my DD had given me.
Look at the head size, not the overall bump measurement, before panicking! Smile

DS1 was 7lbs4 and an easy birth, DS2 was 9lbs2 and got a bit stuck but again not too bad...DD was only 7lbs2 but was the hardest labour oddly! DS2 is a completely different build (think rugby player) to DS1 (footie player!) and they are the same shoe size despite a 2 yr difference! Think it is down to the mix of genes personally size can be quite random.

NurNochKurzDieWeltRetten · 30/06/2015 06:02

DD 9 lb 1 (I know not properly "large")
DS1 8 lb 6
DS2 8 lb 6

but the boys (DC2 and 3) were much longer than DD (DC1). They measure length here and both boys were 56cm at birth where DD was 50 cm.

Size as babies has gone on to be nothing to do with their size as children, with dd being just below 50th centile since age 1, one of the boys 75th centile and one 99th.

Oh and a scan at 35 weeks predicted DS1 would be at least 11 Lbs -2.5lb heavier than he actually was Hmm

eggsnbeans · 30/06/2015 08:47

DD1 9lbs
DD2 10lbs 2oz - easy peasy birth, in labour just over an hour and pushed 4 or 5 times.
Both had huge heads (DD2 was 39cm which I blame on DH!)
I am a teeny person too so not too sure where they came from! Had GTT screen both times and now pg with no 3 and MW is screening me at 10w and doing Hba1c (measure of long term glucose levels) just to be sure. Neither baby has been like a GD baby after birth though as they haven't lost weight! I'm not too scared of being much bigger (although 11 lbs might be my limit Wink )

My SILs 3 babies got subsequently smaller, and I have a couple of friends who have had the same thing, so definitely not a guarantee that they get bigger!

Ds1 9lb12 42 weeks induced forceps
Ds2 8lb13 39 weeks elcs
Dd 8lb5 42 weeks induced vbac

loveliesbleeding1 · 30/06/2015 10:39

I had 9lb 1oz
then 8lb 6 oz
then 9lb 12 oz.
dh was a very big baby though, over 12lbs, so it was expected tbh.

Number3cometome · 30/06/2015 10:56

DS1 - 9lb @ 40 weeks exactly
DD - 8lb @ 38 weeks exactly
DS2 - currently 37+2 and he is measuring small!
Due for C-section at 39+2 so will let you know.
