...were your subsequent babies of similar size?

DS was 10lb 4oz. Now pregnant with second and mildly concerned about producing another whopper. Have already had my glucose tolerance test and I'm not even 12 weeks.

I know there's little I can do to avoid another big un, just interested as I've heard second / subsequent babies can be larger panics Confused

Dc1: 9lbs 5oz at 38 weeks
Dc2: 10lbs 4oz at 41 weeks
Dc3: 7lbs 14oz at 39 weeks

All VBs. Pelvic floor not so happy after all that and had to have surgery for stress incontinence. Kinda wish I had been given csections.

ArtichokeTagine · 29/06/2015 12:47

Oh and 10lbs 4oz baby measured smallest as a bump and a growth scan at 39 weeks suggested she would not be more than eight and a half pounds.

7lbs 14oz baby was identified as "big" at growth scan, unlike the 10lber.

Baguettes · 29/06/2015 12:47

To be honest quinoa I can't really blame your pelvic floor Grin

Artichoke that just confirms my fears about how inaccurate growth scans can be...

NighteyesLovesGingerbread · 29/06/2015 12:51

oh growth scans are useless! I had them for my DTs and 1 week before delivery DT1 was estimated to be nearly 1lb heavier that she ever got to and DT2 was deemed to be over 1lb less than he was!

PrimalLass · 29/06/2015 12:52

DS was 10lb12. DD was 8lb7.

OldBloodCallsToOldBlood · 29/06/2015 13:29

Nighteyes, you do! I'm counting down the days until August and the next book. I've been lucky enough to meet Robin too, she's lovely. Smile

Potterwolfie · 29/06/2015 13:39

8lb12 and then 9lb 13, both induced at 42 weeks ish, first one with gas and air, second one with gas and a water birth. Second delivery definitely preferable! Standard pregnancies and no health issues, just big ol' baby boys!

NighteyesLovesGingerbread · 29/06/2015 13:55

oldblood lucky you! I've not been lucky enough to meet her (yet!). Looking forward to the next book too (although nothing will ever be quite as good as the original Farseer Trilogy!)

ahem....apologise for the tangent OP!!

RolyPolierThanThou · 29/06/2015 14:08

Ds1 was 10.5, forceps, posterior (ie agony) born after 71 hours labour.

Ds2 was 8.8 easy peasy water birth after 7 hours of manageable labour.

I had a growth scan with ds2 and was told he is normal sized. He may be large end of normal but not 10lbs. And they were right.

Do you still have copies of your 20w scan results? Ds1 measured a bit heavy on there but bump size (average), my weight gain (below average) and gtt (normal) gave no indication I was to have a hippo. Only that foetal weight estimate on the 20w printout.

Ds2 was estimated to be just past average.

LikeABadSethRogenMovie · 29/06/2015 14:15

9lb 4, 9lb 8, 9lb 2 and 9lb 6. So roughly all the same ish size. The younger 3 were all easy, quick births with little or no pain relief. I always think that was to make up for the sheer agony of DC1's 50 hour ventouse delivery!

HelenaJustina · 29/06/2015 14:16

First DC 8.12, ventouse delivery
Second DC, I was measuring exactly same bump wise as with DC1 but told my husband I felt smaller. DC2 was 6.12!
Next 2 DC fell in the middle of those two weights, nearly identical.

So not necessarily true about bigger 2nd time round, there was no medical reason DC2 was smaller, placenta fine and only 4 days earlier than DC1 (both overdue)

HelenaJustina · 29/06/2015 14:18

Oh and to echo above re. rubbish growth scans. A scan of DC4 less than 24 hours before delivery put her at 1lb heavier than her actual weight.

TheBookofRuth · 29/06/2015 14:18

Nope, DD was 9lb10 at 40 weeks, DS was 6lb14 at 38.

PoppyAmex · 29/06/2015 14:23

1st = 10lb 12
2nd = 10lb 10

And DH and aren't huge people!

Baguettes · 29/06/2015 14:27

No worries about the tangent Grin

This is so interesting, so many different stories!

roly I have the 20 week pic but not anything else. I didn't know they did weight estimates then!

lunalovegood84 · 29/06/2015 14:35

I'm cheered by stories of lighter second babies as DC1 was 11 lbs 9oz. I don't want a 12 lber. Shock

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 29/06/2015 14:35

DS1 - 8lb 13oz
DS2 - 11lb 3oz (scans predicted 10lb)

RueDeWakening · 29/06/2015 14:47

DC1: 9lbs 8oz
DC2: 3lbs 8oz (9 weeks early)
DC3: 10lbs 8oz

I'm not having any more, I might explode Grin

Loula117 · 29/06/2015 14:49

8lb 12 and then 9lb 12, not in a hurry to see if I can make a 10lb 12!

Both EMCS.

Good luck!

silverstar1 · 29/06/2015 14:58

DS1 was 9lbs 3 weeks early, EMCS

GreatJoanUmber · 29/06/2015 15:05

DC1 was 9 13, at 41w (emcs)
DC2 was 10 0.5 at 41.5w (emcs)
DC3 was 10lbs even, at 40w (elcs, dread to think how much he'd have been if he'd been late like the other two!)

The biggest baby I've personally known was 11 7! Older siblings had been big too, but under 10lbs I think.

IrritatedPartyOf1 · 29/06/2015 16:41

ds1 was 9lbs 12ozs at 41+3
ds2 was 10 lbs 4ozs at 38+1

I was checked for GD on both pregnancies but I didn't have it. I just grow big babies! Second delivery was far easier than the first too.

RolyPolierThanThou · 29/06/2015 17:19

At my 20w scan I got a printout that was stapled to my maternity notes. It said things like 'no foetal anomalies detected. Amd lists things thry looked out for such as kidneys and blood vessels in umbilical cord. and location of placents. Os free (so not praevia).

Then it had some graphs with measured femur length, abdominal circumference, head circumference marked against 5% to 95% centiles.

Maybe not all hospitals do this.

Dailylurker · 29/06/2015 17:25

Dc1 - 40+10 and 9lb 4oz
Dc2 - 39+6 and 8lb 13oz
Dc3 - 40+10 and 9lb 13oz
Dreading how big dc4 will be in 8weeks

All delivered vaginally, first with forceps & third with shoulder dystocia - I'm not very good at delivering babies ????
