Hi all,

I'm due my whooping cough vaccine today and I'm scared - not because of the needles or pain etc, but just because it's a relatively new vaccine for pregnant women and it can cause fever (which could cause future problems).

I've read all the studies on safety, so am aware that it is largely safe, but I'd LOVE to hear from some women who have now had their babies, as well as pregnant women, who can tell me what to expect afterwards.

Is fever common? Arm pain is fine, but what about the other symptoms like vomiting, diarrhoea, headaches etc?

Just a bit of hand-holding in advance please :) Thanks!

I have had this exact discussion too many times. Simply not interested in trying yet again to explain how the boilerplate for tested very untested uses works, or why a clearly biased paper published in a disreputable source is not as strong a piece of evidence as a large study by a public body. I do not think you are making any remotely valid points or raising any real issues whatsoever, and I am unimpressed by your attempt to use the fact that you work for a pharmaceutical company as an appeal to authority since given your citations so far, I believe you to be strongly biased and not competent to evaluate the relative strength of your sources, or to understand the data you are evaluating.

I'm not sure how much clearer I can make that. Everything you are saying is total bunk.

Oh, I do apologise Siani, I didn't realise you were an expert on this matter. In future I shall contact you prior to initiating a discussion on a public forum. You do not have to explain anything to me, I can make my own mind up in fact you didn't need to explain anything in the first place...its a discussion.

I am not trying to impress anyone by stating I work for a pharma company, I was pointing out that I am educated and experienced in the politic involved around vaccinations and the means by which they are 'approved'.

'Everything I am saying is total bunk'?

I have quoted references and asked for peoples opinions (I now have yours loud and clear) and a discussion. I have questioned the recommendations, in my mind this is what intelligent people do, they question matters and they form their own opinions.

I had it..DS is one and fine. Worst bit was how bloody long the sore arm lasted.

Blazing so sorry to hear your son has whooping cough recently. I hope he's OK now?

I had it with ds1, had an achey arm for a couple of days but that was all and he's now a romping 21 month old. Going to have it next week for dc2! The risks for a newborn who gets whooping cough are just too bad.
