First time mum, so unsure of what is best. So far all family say water and Cotton wool. But to be fair they didn't have water wipes in there time when they had us Hmm

Any suggestions/experiences??

Neither.Grin

Little flannels. Cheeky wipes do a set, but you can make your own.

Cotton wool is useless. Water wipes gave mine a rash and are really pricey.

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 05/05/2015 21:50

I use water and cotton wool usually but wipes (just normal ones) when out or for poos

Jenmk1 · 05/05/2015 21:53

I used cotton wool & water as recommended by the MW/HV until DD was 4 weeks then gave in & started using normal sensitive baby wipes. She's 12 weeks now & has never had a rash.

Bicnod · 05/05/2015 21:54

I used waterwipes for the first three months on DC2 and 3. They are pricey but worth it IMO. Couldn't be bothered faffing with cotton wool again after doing so with DC1.

PotteringAlong · 05/05/2015 21:54

I used baby wipes from the off with both of mine. Life's too short for cotton wool and water.

LemonYellowSun · 05/05/2015 21:55

I never used anything but wipes. No problems ever. Don't make early days harder than they need to be IMO

Roobix04 · 05/05/2015 21:56

Water wipes. They come in packs of four at boots. Never found them to be pricey. 13mo dd's never had nappy rash.

applecatchers36 · 05/05/2015 21:57

Water wipes, agree with previous posters, life is hard enough with a new baby.

You can get good price water wipes on Amazon.

Whateverittakes3 · 05/05/2015 21:57

Used cotton wool and water for dd1 for about a week, one day for ds and will be using wipes from the off for dd2 when she arrives!

Eltonjohnsflorist · 05/05/2015 21:58

Cotton wool is better at cleaning but water wipes are more convenient but pricey- £3 a pack, and they don't sell them everywhere so you're best off stocking up.

Carpinteria · 05/05/2015 21:58

Baby wipes. No problems. I am one of those mums that thanks the inventors of wipes and lovely disposable nappies.

Life is too short to be faffed with anything else, imo.

Stinkylinky · 05/05/2015 21:59

I've stocked up on water wipes whenever I've seen them on offer

ThatsNotEvenAWord · 05/05/2015 21:59

Another vote for water wipes

poocatcherchampion · 05/05/2015 22:00

Little squares of material - preferably a bit toweling to get at the stuck on bits...

applecore0317 · 05/05/2015 22:01

My DH won't touch cotton wool, freaks him out a bit... Apparently common, so I bought a box of water wipes from Amazon

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 05/05/2015 22:01

waterwipes are £9 for four packets on Boots.Shock I would definitely try normal unscented before shelling out that kind of money!

Orangeisthenewbanana · 05/05/2015 22:02

We still use cotton wool and water for DD (age 2.3)! Didn't really think about it too much as it was not a hassle at home and much cheaper, so just used wipes out and about. After starting nursery, she would have a really sore bum after the second day. We figured out it was the (sensitive) wipes that were the cause, and it's been fine since they use water now too - I felt very pfb asking them to do that! Blush. But using any brand of wipes just seems to irritate her bum, even if it's just for one day.

Artandco · 05/05/2015 22:02

Reusable cheeky wipes. Work far better. But we did buy water wipes to use first in hospital and first few weeks before we started using reusable nappies and used when travelling

Withalittlesparkle · 05/05/2015 22:03

I used cotton pads (better than balls) for the first few weeks then switched to water wipes!

theendoftheendoftheend · 05/05/2015 22:03

Huggies - every time. Never had a prob.

chiruri · 05/05/2015 22:04

I used 'Pure' newborn baby wipes (are these the same as water wipes?) from the offset. DD is now 4 months old and as has never had a rash. I have eczema and find certain scented products bring me out in a rash, but DD hasn't had any issues at all.

MummyPidge · 05/05/2015 22:06

I've used Pampers sensitive since birth (even the midwife asked at first changing if we had the wipes ready according to my fiancé) and had no problems whatsoever, don't bulk buy though in case the baby has a reaction.

McFox · 05/05/2015 22:08

Cotton wool for the first few weeks, then on to homemade wipes (facecloths) soaked in camomile tea and a little bit of almond oil. We've always used water wipes when we're out though and are using them more at home now that ds is older.

TheBoov · 05/05/2015 22:09

It depends on whether you have family issues with skin/allergies/hayfever etc. If you don't it probably doesn't matter as much. If you do, it would be madness to avoid the very clear, evidence-based advice to just use water. Whether you use cotton wool or little fabric wipes with water isn't important.
And it really is not any extra work to use a cotton wall ball/pad instead of a wipe when you are at home.
But you need to watch your baby's bum. If it looks sore, go straight back to soap and water.

TheBoov · 05/05/2015 22:10

Not soap, of course not, cotton wool and water.
